W-15. What does Psalm 40:6,7 TRULY MEAN?

SPELLING EDITED

W-15. WHAT DOES PSALM 40:6,7 TRULY MEAN?

Psalm 40:6,7.

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; my ears have you opened: burnt offering and sin offering have you not required.

7.  Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book, it is written of me,”

The Oneness Christians and SOME Trinitarian Christians INTERPRET these two verses as Almighty God manifesting HIMSELF as the Son of God, Jesus.

But the way I read this verse is as a prophecy written TO God’s Messiah, the Son of MAN, Jesus. And while Jesus is reading the Scriptures, Almighty God the Father OPENS the ears of his Messiah, Jesus, to UNDERSTAND that the Scriptures are prophesying of HIM. Then while Jesus is reading Psalm 40:7 he reads it with the UNDERSTANDING that this is a prophecy speaking of HIM and he CONFESSES that verse as such, “Then said I, the Son of MAN, Lo, I come written in the volume of the book, it is written of ME.”

The pronouns “I” are not in the original Hebrew text. They are added by the translator. Here is verse 7 showing what words are in the original text. Each word that IS indeed in the original text has a Strong’s number by that word so you can look up the meaning of each word that is indeed in the text. And all the other words in English that are highlighted in yellow were ADDED by the translators.

Then H227 said H559 I, Lo, H2009 I come: H935 in the volume H4039 of the book H5612 it is written H3789 of H5921 me,”

So then, this verse could have read just as easily as follows.

Psalm 40:7 with what I believe is a more correct translation.

Then said HE, Lo, he comes: in the volume of the book, it is written of me,”

Same verse Psalm 40:7 with what I believe is a more correct translation but with my comments.

Then said HE, (Speaking of Almighty God the Father speaking the PROPHECY of his coming Messiah) Lo, he comes: in the volume of the book, it is written of me,”

The first pronoun “HE” that is highlighted in orange is referring to Almighty God the Father as the one speaking the PROPHECY of his yet coming Messiah who we now know was given the name Jesus. The second pronoun “he” that is highlighted in yellow refers to the Son of MAN, Jesus who is READING this prophecy that God revealed to him that he is God’s Messiah, the one prophesied to COME. And the pronoun “me” that is highlighted in yellow also refers to the Son of MAN, Jesus who is reading this prophecy that God revealed to him that he is God’s Messiah who was prophesied to come. The pronoun “me” could also just as easily be the pronoun “him”.

Take a look at Genesis 3:11 where Almighty God the Father is talking to Adam and the pronoun is “HE” said instead of “I” said. It is the same Hebrew word that is in Psalm 40:7 and it is translated as “HE” said instead of “I” said. And all the English words that are NOT underlined were added by the translators for clarity to make the verse sound more like we talk in English.

“And HE said, H559 Who H4310 told H5046 thee that H3588 thou H859 wast naked? H5903 Hast thou eaten H398 of H4480 the tree, H6086 whereof H834 H4480 I commanded H6680 thee that thou shouldest not H1115 eat?H398

My main point is that the pronoun HE is NOT in the original text just the same as the pronoun “I” in Psalm 40:7 is NOT in the original text. So again, Psalm 40:7 could have just as easily have been translated as follows.

Psalm 40:7 with what I believe is a more correct translation.

Then said HE, (Speaking of Almighty God the Father speaking the PROPHECY of his coming Messiah) Lo, he comes: in the volume of the book, it is written of me,”
