SPELLING EDITED V-15. WHAT DOES HEBREWS 2:16,17 TRULY MEAN? Does Hebrews 2:16,17 teach that Jesus pre-existed as the Son of God in eternity past? In other words, does Hebrews 2:16,17 teach us that an eternal God the Son, a second person of a Godhead Trinity God incarnated himself to become flesh? Hebrews 2:16,17.
“For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. 17. Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”
When these two verses are interpreted alone and apart from the rest of God’s word AND a person ALREADY believes the doctrine of the Trinity then it is easy to see that the pronouns “he” and “him” are referring to the Son of God. BUT if a person is taught the doctrine of Oneness which teach that it was Almighty God HIMSELF who incarnated HIMSELF to become the Son then it is easy to see that the pronouns “he” and “him” are referring to Almighty God the Father. And if you believe that the word that became flesh was NOT a literal SEPARATE divine being from Almighty God the Father then it is easy to see that the writer of Hebrews is referring to the word made flesh AFTER the word was made flesh. In other words, since we are human then it behooved Almighty God the Father to make His Messiah ALSO to be human. And that is what the Bible ITSELF says that the word was made FLESH. To say this another way, the writer of Hebrews is simply saying that it was NECESSARY for the Messiah to be made with human nature and NOT with the nature of the angels. When God formed the IMAGE of what He desired His Messiah to be like in His mind that image could have changed many, many, multiple times before God made His final decision of exactly what He desired His Messiah to be. So it behooved God to make His Messiah as a human being as opposed to making His Messiah as an angelic being. And all the writer of Hebrews is saying is that Jesus had a human nature and he did NOT have an angelic nature because that is what Almighty God the Father wanted. So then, WHAT was made FLESH in John 1:14? According to the WHOLE word of God the spoken word of prophecy that come out from God's MOUTH became FLESH. And the word of God is an IT and NOT a he of him UNTIL IT, the spoken word of prophecy became FLESH. And when we read a LITERAL word of word translation it becomes a lot clearer that this is exactly what the writer of the book of Hebrews INTENDED his words to mean.
Hebrews 2:16,17 from the LITERAL translation.
“Not for assuredly of messengers IT is taking hold but of seed of Abraham IT is taking hold. 17. Whence he (The Messiah, Jesus and NOT a pre-existing God the Son) ought according to all the brethren to be made like that merciful he may be becoming and the faithful high priest toward God to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”
Again, the word that became flesh in John 1:14 is an “IT” and NOT a “he”. God spoke His word of prophecy and IT became flesh. So the INTENDED meaning of Hebrews 2:16,17 is talking about the ALREADY HUMAN Son of God, saying, that it was necessary that Jesus, the HUMAN Son of God, be made like his HUMAN brethren and NOT like the angels. It was necessary that IT, the word of prophecy be such, that IT, the spoken word, TAKE ON HUMAN NATURE to be made FLESH like the brethren. So then, you now have THREE DIFFERENT interpretations of Hebrews 2:16,17. You have the Trinitarian INTERPRETATION that God the Son, the second person of the Godhead Trinity God incarnated himself to become flesh but yet reman the fully Almighty God having two natures at the same time, one human and one divine. Then you have the Oneness Pentecostal INTERPRETATION that Almighty God Himself became flesh, as in, the Father manifested Himself to be seen in the flesh. And to them that means that Jesus is NOT a separate person from the Father. They also believe that Jesus had two natures at the same time during the days of his FLESH. and then the thirst interpretation is believed and taught by Biblical Unitarian Christians and Christians like myself who was taught this truth by the Holy Spirit. And we believe as the Apostles of Jesus that IT, the spoken word of prophecy was made FLESH and void of any divine nature DURING the days of his FLESH. And then AFTER the cross Yahweh highly exalted His HUMAN Son Jesus to be MADE Lord and God over the earth to rule FOR his God and Father as the Lord of the Sabbath for 1000 years. Now, as always, you are free to choose any one of these three INTERPRETATIONS even a fourth interpretation of your own if you like. But always remember that whatever INTERPRETATION you decide upon then that interpretation must NOT contradict any other verse of Scripture. And that is why I myself choose the LITERAL translation of IT taking on human nature as opposed to “he” took on human nature because I believe that the word made flesh was an IT and NOT a literal pre-existing divine eternal being who was WITH Almighty God at Almighty God’s side. Please read why I can no longer believe in the doctrine of the Trinity and why I will never be a Oneness Christian that does not believe that Jesus is a SEPARATE person or being form his God and Father. I mean how can the one and selfsame being have himself as the God and Father over himself? That makes no sense whatsoever. You will find on the studies that I have on this subject under the heading >>>A LIST OF STUDIES ON THE TRINITY!<<< And if you are a Oneness Christians please read the studies on why the doctrine of Oneness is NOT SOUND Biblical teaching under the heading >>>IS THE DOCTRINE OF ONENESS BIBLICAL?<<< If you knew beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Bible ITSELF clearly teaches us in SIMPLICITY that the Son of MAN, Jesus, BECAME the ETERNAL SON of God AFTER the CROSS then you would see that it makes no logical sense to say that God the Son incarnated himself to become the Son of God who would die and then be highly exalted to return to being God the Son. Please read the study “WHEN DID JESUS BECOME GOD'S ETERNAL SON?” Thanks for reading and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the truth of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
