W-14. WHAT DOES HEBREWS 10:20 TRULY MEAN?

Does Hebrews 10:20 teach us that Almighty God was VEILED in the FLESH?

That is how some Oneness Christians “INTERPRET” Hebrews 10:20. They argue that Almighty God the Father CLOTHED Himself in a BODY of FLESH just like we would put on a coat or a suit of clothes. And thus, to Oneness Pentecostal Christians, Almighty God is WEARING a suit of FLESH. Here is a quote from an Oneness Pentecostal website and their argument number seven. The emphasis is my own.

7. He is God VEILED in flesh (Hebrews 10:20). As Abraham prophesied, probably without understanding the full meaning of his own words, “God will provide himself a lamb” (Genesis 22:8). God indeed provided a body for Himself: “Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me” (Hebrews 10:5)...

...God is a Spirit—without flesh and blood and invisible to man. In order to make Himself visible to man and in order to shed innocent blood for our sins, He HAD to put on flesh. (For more on the purposes of the Son, see Chapter V.) Jesus is not another God or a part of God, but He is the God of the Old Testament robed in flesh. He is the Father; He is Jehovah who came in flesh to bridge the gap between man and God that man’s sin had created. He put on flesh as a man puts on a coat.

Many verses of Scripture declare Jesus Christ to be the God of the Old Testament robed in flesh for the purpose of self-revelation and reconciliation.

Let us read Hebrews 10:20 first which Oneness Christians “interpret” as Almighty God Himself VEILED or covered in FLESH. And then we will compare the Oneness “INTERPRETATION” of Almighty God being CLOTHED in the flesh with other Scriptures to see IF it is a sound Biblical interpretation.

Hebrews 10:20.

“By a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;”

Now, when one “interprets” this verse OUT of its CONTEXT then one could read into this verse that the pronoun “he” is referring to Yahweh Himself who consecrated us through the VEIL of “His” FLESH. But when we read the CONTEXT we can clearly see that the writer of Hebrews is comparing the Old Covenant literal Temple of ONLY the high priest being able to ENTER into the holy of Holies, the very presence of God. But NOW, under the New Covenant, Jesus, our Lord, and Savior has made a WAY for us to enter into the very presence of Almighty God THROUGH the shed BLOOD and FLESH of Jesus. In other words, the phrase “his flesh” refers to the human body of the SON OF God and NOT a human body prepared FOR God to VEIL Himself in as a so-called suit of clothes so He could be SEEN by humans. Let us read the whole CONTEXT so you can see that TWO separate persons are being spoken of in this passage of Scripture AND in the entire Bible.

Please read Hebrews 10:1-23.

“ For the law having a SHADOW of good things TO COME, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. (In other words, the Law of Moses contained in ordinances were SHADOWS pointing to the Messiah and the New and BETTER Covenant establish in the shed blood of the Son of MAN, Jesus. This was God’s PLAN that He kept SECRET from the foundation of the world)

2.  For then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 

3.  But in those sacrifices, there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 

4.  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 

5.  Wherefore, when he comes into the world, he says, Sacrifices and offering YOU would not, but a body have YOU prepared me: (This is NOT speaking of the MORTAL human body of FLESH, but rather, this verse is a PROMISE to the human Messiah that God would raise him from the dead and given him a NEW GLORIFIED IMMORTAL body IF he laid down his own physical mortal life to do the WILL of his God and Father. This verse does NOT say that he prepared “HIMSELF” a body. But rather, it says YOU prepared ME a body. Again, this verse is NOT talking about a human MORTAL body that some so-called eternal God the Son could dwell in as Trinitarian Christians claim. This verse is talking about the new glorified immortal body that Yahweh the father prepare in His mind and PLAN to give to His HUMAN Son as the JOY set before him to endure the cross, according to Hebrews 12:2. So WHY would Almighty God set a JOY before Himself to ENDURE the cross? TO ME, it makes more sense that the real genuine HUMAN Son of God was AFRAID to lay down his life on the cross and the human Son is quoting a prophesied PROMISE to his God and Father to be strengthened in his faith to yield his OWN WILL to his God and Father’s WILL?)

6.  In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin, YOU have had no pleasure. 

7.  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do YOUR WILL, O God. 

8.  Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin YOU would not, neither had pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 

9.  Then said he, Lo, I come to do YOUR WILL, O God. He takes away the first, that He may establish the second. 

10.  By the which WILL, we are sanctified through the offering of the body OF Jesus Christ once for all. (And NOT the body of Almighty God the Father. And NOT the new GLORIFIED IMMORTAL body that God PREPARED for the HUMAN Son of MAN, Jesus as a reward for his OBEDIENCE to do all the WILL of his God and Father to INHERIT. Jesus is our BROTHER, the FORERUNNER gone before us. Our FAITH is in Jesus being RESURRECTED and GIVE eternal life as the anchor of our soul that WE will be resurrected to INHERIT eternal life as well)

11.  And every priest stands daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 

12.  But this MAN, (And NOT Almighty God VEILED in flesh. And NOT that God the Son is fully God and fully human at the same time having TWO natures, one divine, and one human God-man. But rather this MAN) after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God; (Now, how can you sit down at the right-hand side of God IF SO BE your ARE that ONE God is ONE person? The Oneness Pentecostal doctrine FORCES the Father to be a NON-PERSON and or it FORCES the SON to be a NON-PERSON by FORCING Jesus to BE Almighty God Yahweh Himself. But if we KEEP Jesus as being the SON OF Almighty God Yahweh who came INTO EXISTENCE at the Virgin birth as the FULFILLMENT of PROPHECY just like the Bible ITSELF clearly teaches us in SIMPLICITY then we have NO contradictions to ANY other verse in the Bible. Plain and simple, Jesus was GLORIFIED AFTER the CROSS and that is WHEN the human Son of God was MADE in the IMAGE OF the PERSON of the invisible God the Father. In visible ONLY to MORTAL human beings)

13.  From henceforth expecting till His enemies are made His footstool. (When you read 1 Corinthians 15:20-28 you can clearly see that Almighty God Yahweh the Father is the one who will put all the enemies under the feet of His now highly exalted glorified Son. And after the 1000 year reign of Jesus, the NOW eternal Son of God will COMMIT the ruling of the kingdom back into the hands of his God and Father. We will only rule and reign WITH Jesus for 1000 years in the world yet to come. It is ONLY DURING the 1000 year reign of Jesus that he will be CALLED the God of the whole EARTH and NOT the God of the whole universe. CLEARLY, Jesus is “A” God who Yahweh Himself specifically created to BECOME a God to rule FOR Yahweh in the NAME OF Yahweh to the Glory OF Yahweh)

14.  For by one offering He has perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 

15.  Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that He had said before, 

16.  This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 

17.  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 

18.  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 

19.  Having, therefore, BRETHREN, boldness to ENTER INTO the HOLIEST BY the blood of Jesus, (And NOT by the blood of Yahweh the Father clothed in a body of flesh)

20.  By a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; (The writer of Hebrews is simply COMPARING the old literal Temple VEIL that was TORN from top to bottom to the FLESH of Jesus be TORN to sheds from top to bottom so that NO-LONGER will people by kept from the presence of Almighty God. And NOW, under the New Covenant we can come BOLDLY directly to the throne of grace with having an earthly high priest to enter FOR us)

21.  And having a high priest over the house of God; (In other words, we do not have to WAIT for the yearly sacrifice for sins under the new Covenant to carry that GUILT of sin throughout the year. Now we have a NEW high priest in heaven that has remove that VEIL so that we can come directly to Yahweh the father anytime day or night any day of the year)

22.  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 

23. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”

Let us now read Heb 4:14-16 where we see that it was the SON OF God along WITH his God and father who made it possible for us to come boldly to the very throne of grace to obtain help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 

15.  For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points TEMPTED like as we are, yet without sin. (And God Himself can NOT be TEMPTED, according to James 1:13. Please read the study “37 FACTS TO PONDER ABOUT JESUS BEING GOD!” I believe that ALL Scripture must AGREE with what we teach from the Bible. And that does NOT mean that we can INVENT some so-called TWO NATURES at the SAME time doctrine of men to EXPLAIN AWAY the verses of Scripture that do NOT agree with what we teach. BOTH Oneness Christians AND Trinitarian Christians NEED the TWO nature doctrine of the Deity of Jesus DURING the days of his FLESH. Otherwise, their man-made doctrines fall apart and crumble WITHOUT their TWO NATURE of Jesus doctrine which did not exist until the FOURTH century.

 It was at the Ecumenical Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD that it was decided to establish ONE doctrine about the NATURE of Jesus to END the heated controversies among Christians. And that “Roman Catholic” church council made it church DOGMA for Jesus to have TWO natures, one divine, and one human AT The SAME time BEGINNING at his Virgin birth but that does NOT make it BE the TRUTH. My point is that the Bible ITSELF does NOT teach us that Jesus had TWO natures at the SAME time during the days of his FLESH. I mean, WHY does the Bible itself call the days for the Virgin birth to the resurrection as being the days of his FLESH if so be the Bible ITSELF teaches us that Jesus had TWO natures DURING the days of his FLESH?)

16.  Let us THEREFORE come BOLDLY unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

This is why we must COMPARE Scripture with Scripture in order to CORRECTLY interpret the Scriptures. Look how similar Hebrews 10:19 is to Hebrews 4:14-16.

Hebrews 10:19,20.

“Having, THEREFORE, brethren, BOLDNESS to enter into the holiest BY the blood of Jesus, 

20.  By a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;”

By FORCING Jesus to BE the FATHER the Oneness Pentecostal Christians FORCE the Son OF God to be a NON-PERSON of his OWN. In other words, the Son OF God is NOT a REAL genuine Son, according to the Oneness doctrine. But rather, the Father manifested Himself a BODY to dwell in. Oneness Christians may SAY, in that, that they sincerely believe with all their heart that Jesus is a REAL genuine Son OF God but they are lying to themselves and to God by saying that Jesus IS the Father and NOT a SEPARATE person from the Father.

Why would God manifest Himself a Son who is NOT a SEPARATE person from Himself and then HIGHLY ABASE HIMSELF to be LOWER than HIMSELF? The TRUTH of the matter is that Jesus is the WORKMANSHIP OF Yahweh the Father, and it is the FATHER who PERFORMS His own spoken word of PROPHECY. And the prophecy in Isaiah 9:6,7 clearly teaches us that the NAME of the Messiah SHALL be CALLED the Mighty God and the Everlasting Father WHEN the GOVERNMENT is LAID upon his shoulders in the world yet to come. Let us go ahead and read that PROPHECY and while you read it please pay close attention to the ORDER in which the events are PROPHESIED and WHO is doing the WORK of PERFORMING His OWN spoken word of PROPHECY.

Please read Isaiah 9:6,7.

“For (Order of event #1 that has already been FULFILLED) unto us, a CHILD is BORN, (THEN comes Order of event #2 that has also already been FULFILLED) unto us a son is given: (Speaking of the HUMAN Son of MAN, Jesus as the Son given as the ONE sacrifice for the sins of the world. Yahweh provided His own Lamb that was slain in the mind of God from the foundation of the world. God chose His Lamb to be made inferior to the angels so He made the human race a little lower than the angelic beings) and (And THEN Order of event #3 is YET FUTURE and it is YET TO BE FULFILLED) the government shall be upon his shoulder: (Which is the WRATH of God executed by Jesus. That is WHEN the kingdoms of this present world will become the kingdom of God's dear Son to begin the 1000 year reign of Jesus) and ( And THEN will come Order of event #4 that is YET FUTURE and it is YET TO BE FULFILLED WHEN the government will be set upon the shoulder of Jesus IN the world to come, at which TIME) his NAME shall be CALLED Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, (Or more precisely, according to Hebrew 5:9, the Father of everlasting life or the AUTHOR of eternal life. For you see, it was BECAUSE, OF the Son of man, Jesus obeying his God and Father's Will, that Jesus made it possible for whosoever believes in him shall be saved. Jesus was MADE perfect and he BECAME the Father of eternal life AFTER the cross. For you see, the Son of MAN, Jesus, was GIVEN the authority and the power AFTER the cross to JUDGE and also to give eternal life to whomsoever he chooses. This is why Psalms 2 prophesies to kiss the feet of God’s Son whom He ordained to be his King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus is also called) The Prince of Peace. (And, according to Revelation 1:5, Jesus is our Prince right now standing at the right hand of God. But at his second coming, Jesus will SIT on the right hand of Yahweh to rule and reign FOR Yahweh as the Lord of the Sabbath. And at that time, the kingdoms of this present world will become the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. And)

7.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

Also, please notice WHO is doing the PERFORMING of His own spoken word of PROPHECY that came forth OUT FROM His mouth. It is Almighty God Yahweh the creator who is performing His own word. So to me, Jesus is the FULFILLMENT of the spoken word of PROPHECY. Jesus began as a THOUGHT in God’s mind as God's secret plan of salvation. Not just the salvation of mankind that He had not yet created, but also the RESTORATION of the entire universe back to being at PEACE having no WAR. God created the human race to put an END to evil. When you understand the bigger picture of god gathering EVIDENCE against Lucifer to DETHRONE Lucifer and PROMOTE another to replace him then you ane see WHY Yahweh MADE Jesus a little LOWER and INFERIOR to the ANGELS and THEN CROWNED the Son of MAN with glory and honor AFTER the CROSS.

The Oneness Christians SEE Jesus as FULLY God and fully human at the SAME time form his Virgin birth to all eternity future, And the Trinitarian Christians SEE Jesus as being FULLY God from eternity past who then took on human nature at his Virgin birth to REMAIN fully God and fully a man for eternity future. BUT the Apostles and disciple of Jesus tell us in SIMPLE clear words how THEY SEE Jesus. Please read from the SAME book of HEBREWS to learn the TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning of Hebrews 10:20.

Please read Hebrews 2:1,5-10.

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip... (Speaking about what the Bible ITSELF teaches and NOT what church denominations teach)

...5.  For unto the angels has He not put in subjection the WORLD TO COME, whereof we speak. 

6.  But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is MAN, that YOU are mindful of him? Or the son of MAN, that YOU visit him? 

7.  YOU MADE him a little LOWER than the angels; (Or YOU Yahweh MADE Jesus INFERIOR to the ANGELS. And the AFTER the CROSS) YOU CROWNED him with GLORY and HONOR, and did SET him OVER the works of YOUR hands: (Speaking of Yahweh crowning His FIRST-BEGOTTEN Son to be King and Lord DURING the world to come whereof we SPEAK. Now, this is how thievery Apostle and disciples KNEW Jesus to BE)

8.  YOU have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But NOW (Speaking of right now AFTER the CROSS and BEFORE the second coming of Jesus to begin the world yet to come) WE SEE NOT YET all things put under him. 

9.  But WE SEE Jesus, (Or WE the very Apostles and disciples of Jesus SEE Jesus) who was MADE a little LOWER (Or INFERIOR) than the angels for the suffering of death, CROWNED with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 

10.  For it became Him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to MAKE the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

It is Yahweh the creator who devised His PLAN of Salvation. It is Yahweh the creator who SPOKE forth His OWN word of PROPHECY out from Himself out of His own MOUTH His own plan of salvation. And it is Yahweh the creator who ALONE is the Father that is PERFORMING His OWN word of PROPHECY to be fulfilled exactly as He prophesied His Messiah to BE. In the beginning, was the spoken word of prophecy And the word was with Yahweh the Father. And the word of PROPHECY was “A” God. But FIRST, the word of prophecy was made FLESH to fulfill the ORDER of the events in which they were PROPHESIED.

ALL the FULLNESS of the Godhead did not dwell in Jesus UNTIL AFTER the CROSS. Jesus was not made in the IMAGE OF God UNTIL AFTER the CROSS. Jesus is not become Deity UNTIL AFTER the CROSS. In fact, Jesus was not yet our Savior UNTIL AFTER the CROSS. That is WHEN Jesus BECAME the ETERNAL Son of God. That is WHEN Jesus was made a partaker of the DIVINE NATURE or immortality. I assure you that every verse that SEEMS to be saying that Jesus pre-existed in eternity past has another meaning that does NOT contradict any other verses of Scripture in the entire Bible.
