SPELLING EDITED V-27. WHAT DOES JOHN 1:1-5,14,18 TRULY MEAN? If you incorrectly INTERPRET these five verses then you will INCORRECTLY interpret other verses. For you see, some Christians interpret these five verses FIRST and then they base all their other interpretations upon what they have concluded these five verses to mean. Please allow me to explain what I mean by this by giving you some examples. But first, let us read John 1:1-5,14 from the King James Version of the Bible, and later we will read these same verses for some other earlier translations of the Bible. John 1:1-5,14 from the King James Version. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. The same was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…. ...14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” Now, let us ASSUME that any one of the following five interpretations could possibly be the CORRECT interpretation of John 1:1-5. I will write each of the following interpretation in a PARAPHRASED form of these five verses because that is how each different group of Christians read these verses in their MIND. I will also add verse 14 in the following five very liberal and freely paraphrased interpretations. INTERPRETATION #1. The Trinitarian interpretation of John 1:1-5,14. “In the beginning was God the Son the second person of the Trinity, and the God the Son was with God, and the God the Son was God. 2. God the Son was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by God the Son; and without God the Son the second person of the Godhead Trinity God was not anything made that was made. 4. In God the Son was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…. ...14. And God the Son was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld God the Son’s glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. INTERPRETATION #2. The Oneness interpretation of John 1:1-5,14. “In the beginning was the SAYING that the Father spoke out from his mouth, and the SAYING was with God, and the SAYING was God. 2. The SAYING was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by the SAYING that came out of God’s mouth; and without God speaking his word there was not anything made that was made. 4. In God’s spoken word was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…. ...14. And the SPOKEN SAYING was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld the Father MANIFEST in the flesh glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” INTERPRETATION #3. The Watchtower Jehovah’s Witness interpretation of John 1:1-5,14. “In the beginning was the God first created being named the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was A God. 2. The SEPARATE CREATED Spirit being named the Word was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by God’s first creation named the Word; and without God’s first created being named the Word was not anything made that was made. 4. In God’s first created Spirit being named the Word was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…. ...14. And the first created being named the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld the Word made flesh whose name was Jesus glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” INTERPRETATION #4. The Biblical Unitarian interpretation of John 1:1-5,14. “In the beginning was the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence, and the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence was TOWARD the God, and the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence was A God who would be AN IMAGE of Yahweh himself. 2. The SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence was in the beginning TOWARD THE God to bring into existence. 3. All things were made by the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence by Yahweh SPEAKING forth his word out from his mouth; and without Yahweh speaking forth his word was not anything made that was made. 4. In the SPOKEN SAYING of God was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…. ...14. And the SPOKEN SAYING of God was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld the living saying of God made flesh who was given the name Jesus glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” INTERPRETATION #5. The NEW CREATURE interpretation of John 1:1-5,14. “In the beginning was the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence, and the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence was TOWARD the God, and the SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence was AN IMAGE of God. 2. The SAYING that was in the MIND and PLAN of God to bring forth into existence was in the beginning TOWARD THE God to bring into existence. 3. THE ALL of every NEW CREATURE created IN Jesus Christ were made possible THROUGH and BECAUSE OF the spoken word of God made flesh who was given the name Jesus; and without Jesus was not YET ONE of THE ALL of whosoever BELIEVES in Jesus BECAME which BECAME one of the ALL of whosoever BELIEVES. 4. In the creative power of God’s spoken word was life to create the Son of Man Jesus; and Jesus was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not…. ...14. And the SPOKEN SAYING that came forth out from the mouth of Yahweh was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld the living word spoken out of the mouth of Yahweh the Father made to become flesh glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” Now, I myself believe both interpretation number four and interpretation number five to be the best interpretations because the do not contradict any other verses of Scripture. So then, either one of these interpretations could be the correct interpretation. BUT, I personally am leaning towards interpretation number FIVE being the most accurate and correct interpretation. And here is WHY I say that. I recently learned from looking up the word “FOUNDATION” in Revelation 13:8 that the BEGINNING in John 1:1 is speaking of the FOUNDING of the world some 6000 years ago and NOT the creation of the world in eternity past. In other words, when I read the meaning of the Greek word “katabole” to mean the throwing down of the world SYSTEM many verses came to my mind in an instance. I dug deeper into the meaning of the foundation of the world and I found that it is referring to the DETHRONING of Lucifer from being the god of this present world to replace him with Jesus. Please read the studies “THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD” and “WHAT DOES REVELATION 13:8 TRULY MEAN?” For now, let us read John 1:1-5,14 from some early translations of the Bible that came BEFORE the King James translation. JOHN 1:1-5,14 from EARLY TRANSLATIONS I will first list eight Bible translations that were translated before the King James Version. The ones' in blue type are links so you can read them online for yourself. I could not find any links to some of these earlier translations to read online. Geneva Bible 1560 I could not find the 1560 Edition online so I give you a link to the 1599 Edition. The Tavner Bible 1539 The Great Cranmer's Bible 1539 The Whittingham Bible 1557 All eight of these translations use the pronoun IT that refers back to the Greek word “logos” translated as the “word”. While all the modern translations, starting with the King James Version, stopped using the pronoun IT and started using the pronoun “he” instead. And all the newer translations started capitalizing the word as the Word. Also, here is a link to the LITERAL translation that I use. It is translated for the Textus Receptus as is the King James Version. But there are many differences in this more literal word for word Interlinear translation. This literal translation translates the Greek word “logos” as “the SAYING was towards ‘THE’ God and God was the SAYING”. The literal translation says the SAME was light and without the SAME was not one made that was made. In other words, the SAYING became the light and without the SAYING or without the word made flesh, not ONE became that BECAME. Here is John 1:1-5,14 from the LITERAL translation. “In beginning was the SAYING and the SAYING was TOWARD THE God and God was the SAYING. 2. THIS was in beginning TOWARD THE God. 3. ALL through SAME BECAME and apart from SAME became NOT YET ONE which HAS BECOME (Now to ME, I am seeing that this verse is speaking of THE ALL of every NEW CREATURE who has become created IN Jesus Christ. I personally do NOT see this verse speaking of the creation of the entire universe in eternity past) 4. In SAME life was and the life was the LIGHT of the humans. (The spoken and the written word of God is the LIGHT or the understanding of eternal life) 5. And the LIGHT in the darkness is appearing and the darkness it not down got (Or the darkness did not understand the gospel of Jesus Christ)... ...14. And the SAYING flesh became as booths (Or tabernacles or dwells in us or among us) and we gaze the esteem, (Or the glory of him) esteem (Or the glory of him) as of only GENERATED beside Father full of grace and truth.” Again, my point is that the LITERAL translation and all the earlier translations do NOT capitalize the word “word” as “Word” and they do NOT use the pronoun “he” to SWAY the reader to believe that the “LOGOS” is God the Son, the second person of a Godhead Trinity God. So to me, I see that they were trying to be HONEST in their translations to let us know that the SPOKEN “LOGOS” or the SPOKEN word or the SPOKEN SAYING of God became flesh and NOT God the Son became flesh. The English word “THINGS” is NOT in the original Greek text in verse 3. So then, to me, the ALL through SAME BECAME. And apart from SAME became NOT YET ONE which HAS BECOME is speaking of God NEW CREATION of new CREATURES who are created IN Jesus Christ and WITHOUT Jesus there would be NO new creation created IN Jesus Christ. Please read the study “GOD’S NEW CREATION CREATED IN JESUS CHRIST!” Tyndale Bible 1535. From an online translation. John 1:1-5,14. “In the beginnynge was the worde and the worde was with God: and the worde was God. (Notice that the old English word “worde” or “word” is NOT capitalized as it is in the modern translations as “Word” from the time of King James Version to the newest translation of today.) 2. The SAME was in the beginnynge with God. (Speaking of the logos or the word was in the beginning with God not as a separate person of a Godhead Trinity. But rather IT was God’s THOUGHTS in the form of his word in his mind which God spoke forth out from his mouth) 3. All thinges were made by IT and with out IT was made nothinge that was made. 4. In IT was lyfe and the lyfe was ye lyght of men 5. and the lyght shyneth in the darcknes but the darcknes comprehended it not. ... ...14. And the worde was made flesshe and dwelt amonge vs and we sawe the glory of IT as the glory of the only begotten sonne of ye father which worde was full of grace and verite. Geneva Bible 1560. From an online translation. “In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God, and that Word was God. (This is actually the 1599 translation. The 1560 Geneva Bible translation does NOT capitalize the word “word” as being “Word” until the 1599 edition) 2. This SAME was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by IT, and without IT was made nothing that was made. 4. In IT was life, and that life was the light of men. (Notice that all the pronouns referring back to the Greek word “logos” are the pronoun IT instead of the pronoun “he” in the King James Version and the modern translations.) 5. And that light shineth in the darkenesse, and the darkenesse comprehended IT not…. ... 14. And that Word was made flesh, and dwelt among vs, (and we sawe the glorie THEREOF, as the glorie of the onely begotten Sonne of the Father) full of grace and trueth.” Matthew Bible 1535. From an online translation. John 1:1-5.14. “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. (Again, please notice that these earlier translations BEFORE the King James translation did NOT capitalized the Greek word “logos” that is translated as the English word “word”) 2. The SAME was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by IT (Speaking of the “logos” the spoken word or saying of God), and without it was made nothing that was made. 4. In IT (Speaking of the “logos” the spoken word or saying of God) was life, and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shines in the darkness, but the darkness comprehended IT (Speaking of the “logos” the spoken word or saying of God that was made flesh) not…. ...14. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us. And we saw the glory of IT,(Speaking of the “logos” the spoken word or saying of God that was made flesh and then HIGHLY EXALTED to become the eternal Son of God) as the glory of the only begotten Son of the Father, which word was full of grace and truth. “
I could not find all eight translations online to copy and paste but they all use the pronoun IT instead of the pronoun “he”. And they do NOT capitalize the “word”. Not all Christians are aware that the “LOGOS” is an IT and not a HE. Even the King James Version uses the pronoun IT for the word of God in Isaiah 55:11. Here is Isaiah 55:11 from the King James Version. “So shall my word be that goes forth OUT OF MY MOUTH: IT shall not return unto me void, but IT shall accomplish that which I please, and IT shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent IT.” Now let us read Isaiah 55:11 from the LITERAL translation and you will see that the IT, the spoken word that CAME FORTH OUT FROM the MOUTH OF God, became an HIM. Here is the LITERAL translation of Isaiah 55:11. “So he (Or IT) is becoming word OF me (Speaking of the >>Aleph Tav אֶ ת )which he (Or IT) is going forth from MOUTH of ME not he (Or IT) is returning to me empty but rather he (Or IT) does >>Aleph Tav אֶ ת which I desire and he (Or IT) prospers which I sent him (Or IT) .” And the SAYING became FLESH. Jesus said that he came FORTH OUT FROM God in John 16:27,28. Please read the study “JOHN 16:28 JESUS CAME FORTH FROM GOD!” But for now, please read John 16:27,28. “For the Father himself loves you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I CAME OUT FROM God. 28. I CAME FORTH FROM the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.” I myself believe that Jesus knew that the PROPHECIES of the Scriptures spoke of him COMING INTO EXISTENCE in the womb of his mother by the SPOKEN word of His God and Father to be BORN of the Virgin Mary. I do NOT believe that the word of Yahweh was a separate divine Spirit being called God the Son, the second person of a Godhead Trinity. For you see, Yahweh PROPHESIED in his word saying, “I WILL BE a Father to him and he SHALL BE a Son to me” Please read Hebrews 1:5. “For unto which of the angels said he at any time, You are my Son, THIS DAY have I BEGOTTEN you? And again, I WILL BE to him a Father, and he SHALL BE to me a Son?” Please read the three-part study “WHEN DID JESUS BECOME GOD'S ETERNAL SON?-1” And for further study on the subject of the doctrine of the Trinity to decide for yourself whether or not it is sound Biblical teaching please read all the studies under the heading >>>A LIST OF STUDIES ON THE TRINITY!<<< Thanks for reading and may God bless you richly as you continue to seek the TRUTH of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
