 THE REASON FOR THE SEVEN FEASTS! 


The reason for the seven feasts of the Lord was to point the children of Israel to the Messiah. The Bible itself teaches us that the Law of Moses contained in ordinances was a SCHOOLMASTER or a TEACHER to the children of Israel UNTIL the Messiah came. In other words, the children of Israel were KEPT by the Law of Moses which could NOT SAVE them. The Law of Moses was ADDED only UNTIL the Messiah come to be the ATONEMENT for the sins of the world. 


Please read Galatians 3:21-28.


“Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given LIFE, verily (Or then truly) righteousness should have been by the law.

22.  BUT the Scripture has CONCLUDED ALL under sin, THAT the promise BY FAITH of Jesus Christ might be given to them that BELIEVE

23.  But BEFORE faith CAME, we (Speaking of the natural-born Jews and the Gentiles who converted to the Jewish Law of Moses) were KEPT under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterward be revealed.

24.  Wherefore, (Or for this very REASON) the law was our SCHOOLMASTER to BRING us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith

25.  But AFTER that faith has come, we are NO LONGER UNDER a schoolmaster. (In other words, AFTER a Jew OR a Gentile receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior then they are NO LONGER UNDER the Law of Moses CONTAINED in ORDINANCES. There is a DIFFERENCE between the MORAL laws and the ceremonial laws contained in ordinances. The ceremonial laws contained in ordinances which included all the FEAST days is what Paul is talking about as being the SCHOOLMASTER to the Jews that were under the Law of Moses. So when Pails say that Jesus Christ is the END of the LAW for righteousness he is referring to all the CEREMONIAL laws contained in ORDINANCES that Jesu ABOLISHED according to Ephesians 2:15. Having ABOLISHED in his flesh the ENMITY (Or the OPPOSITION that was AGAINST the children of Israel as too heavy to BEAR), EVEN the LAW of commandments CONTAINED in ORDINANCES; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;”)

26.  For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus

27.  For as many of you as having been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 

28.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for yo are all one in Christ Jesus.” 


 The seven feasts of the Lord were for signs pointing to events that would take place in the life of the Messiah, Jesus. There were also many other SHADOWS of future things hidden in the ceremonial laws contained in ordinances.

“For the law having a SHADOW of good things to come and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 

2.  For THEN would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.” 


In other words, if so be that the Law of Moses could have justified the children of Israel then the Law of Moses would not have CEASED. But the Bible itself teaches us that the Law of Moses was WEAK in the FLESH meaning that the flesh is weak. In other words, because of the flesh being weak NONE of the fathers of the Jews or any of the Apostles of Jesus were able to BEAR that Law of Moses contained in ordinances, according to Acts 15:7-24 which you can read on your own and Romans 3:1-8. I will only quote Acts 15:10 which is talking about the Law of Moses contained in ORDINANCES as being a YOKE that was too hard to BEAR.

Acts 15:10.


“Now, therefore, why TEMPT you God, to put a YOKE upon the neck of the disciples, which NEITHER our fathers NOR we were able to BEAR?”


Now, the seven feast days were not too burdensome to bear. BUT according to Romans 8:1-8, the keeping of ANY of the Law of Moses contained in ordinances does NOT PLEASE God because it is walking in the FLESH and NOT truly RESTING in Jesus.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are IN Christ Jesus, who walk NOT after the flesh, but after the Spirit

2.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the LAW of sin and death

3.  For what the LAW could not do, in that it was WEAK through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: (In other words, Jesus FULFILLED all the Law of Moses CONTAINED in ORDINANCES and NAILED them to the cross.)

4.  THAT (Or so THAT) the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk NOT after the flesh, (Speaking of trying to keep all the Law of Moses to be MORE PLEASING to God)  but after the Spirit. (Resting in Jesus as our TRUE Sabbath REST to CEASE from the works of keeping the Law of Moses CONTAINED in ORDINANCES)

5.  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 

6.  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 

7.  Because the carnal mind is ENMITY (Or OPPOSITION)  against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, (Speaking of the law of faith or the law of the Spirit of LIFE and PEACE resting in Jesus FULFILLING the RIGHTEOUSNESS of the law of God)

neither indeed can be

8.  So then they that are in the flesh CANNOT PLEASE God.”


The point that the Bible ITSELF is making over and over, again and again, is that under the New Covenant written in the New Testament there is NO law, NO ordinance, and NO commandments to keep the Law of Moses contained in ORDINANCES because they were all SHADOWS pointing to Jesus as being the Messiah. And it is DISPLEASING to God if a Christian keeps the feast days for the purpose of being PLEASING to God. You cannot get anymore pleasing to God than TRUSTING in his Son Jesus as your Lord and Savior. The ONLY LAW of God we are to keep under the New Covenant is the MORAL commandments of God. Please read the study “WHAT DOES ROMANS 3:31 TRULY MEAN?” But for now, let us take a look at each feast day to see what event each feast day points to in the LIFE of our Messiah, Jesus.


#1. The first feast day, the feast of PASSOVER.


The feast of Passover is found in Leviticus 23:4-8 and Exodus 21:1-14, 21-27. This first annual feast is celebrated by the Jews in remembrance of the last plague passing of the children of Israel while they were in bondage in the land of Egypt. The BLOOD on the lintels and the doorposts was a sign or a token that the Lord would PASSOVER the children of Israel to deliver them. And the ordinance of preparing the lamb during the Passover feast was a SHADOW of Jesus as being the TRUE Passover Lamb that God himself provided. 

Abraham brought NO lamb to sacrifice. But because Abraham BELIEVED God to obey God to offer his own son, God saw his FAITH and provide his OWN lamb for Abraham to offer. These are all TYPES. FIGURES, and SHADOWS pointing to the TRUE LAMB of God slain BEFORE the foundation of the world. The feast of Passover is one of the FOUR annual feast days that was celebrated in the SPRING of the solar year. Passover is celebrated by the Jews in the first month of the Jewish lunar calendar on Nisan 14 which is that day Jesus suffered and died on the cross for the sins of the word.


#2. The feast of UNLEAVENED BREAD.


The feast of unleavened bread is a seven-day feast that starts on the day after Passover. And in the year that Jesus was crucified on Nisan 14 was on a Wednesday and the next day was a high Sabbath day because the first day of the feast of unleavened bread is always the next day after the feast of Passover. You can read about the feast of unleavened bread in Leviticus 23:6-8 and Exodus 12:15-20, Exodus 13:1-16.

The word “bread” in the Bible is used as a figurative language to me TEACHING. And LEAVEN bread speaks of FALSE teaching. So then the symbolism of eating “UNLEAVEN” bread for seven days points to eating or obeying the TRUE Gospel of Jesus Christ for seven 1000 year long day from Adam to the end of the Millennial reign of Jesus. This is a study in and of itself that I have already covered in several other studies. But briefly, I will try and summarize what I mean is one paragraph without providing the Scriptures.

When Jesus descended into the heart of the earth for three days and three nights he PREACHED the Gospel to the Old Testament patriarchs. And when Jesus was raised from the dead, Paradise in Abraham's bosom was MOVE to heaven under the Altar. And then for the next three days or the next three thousand years, the Gospel will be preached. The first two 1000 year-long days are this PRESENT world and the THIRD day is the Millennial reign of Jesus.


#3. The feast of FIRSTFRUITS.



The feast of firstfruits was celebrated AFTER the THIRD day of the feast of unleavened bread. Leviticus says on the morrow AFTER the sabbath.


Leviticus 23:9-11.


“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 

10.  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When you be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest

11.  And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow AFTER the sabbath the priest shall wave it.”


The Hebrew word “shabbath” that is translated as sabbath also means INTERMISSION. And the word “intermission” is an interval of time BETWEEN two things. In other words, verse 11 is speaking of the interval of time AFTER the THIRD day which is WHEN God raised Jesus from the dead to become the FIRSTFRUITS unto God. Here is how E-Sword defines this Hebrew word.

The Passover is on Nisan 14. The feast of unleavened bread starts on Nisan 14 and ends on Nisan 21. And the feast of FIRSTFRUIT is in the MIDDLE of the week AFTER the THIRD day one the next day AFTER the INTERMISSION between the Nisan 17 and Nisan 18. In other words, Jesus was raised for the dead AFTER the THIRD day sometime during the INTERMISSION between the evening of Nissan 17  and the morning of Nisan 18. And the women disciples of Jesus CELEBRATED the resurrection of Jesus early that morning on Nisan 18 AFTER the INTERMISSION which I believe is incorrectly translated as the sabbath in Leviticus 23:11. For you see, there is NO mention of a SABBATH day in the middle of the seven days of the feast of unleavened bread. Nisan 15 is a Sabbath day and Nisan 21 is a Sabbath day.

And even if Nissan 17 is also a high Sabbath day, Leviticus 23:11 says that the feast of firstfruits is one the day AFTER Nisan 17 which is WHEN God raised Jesus from the dead. For you see, Jesus said that he would be raised from the dead AFTER THREE DAYS.

“Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, AFTER three days I will rise again.” 


Also, read Mark 8:31.


Mark 8:31.


“And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and AFTER three days rise again.”


And many more Scriptures clearly teach us that Jesus was raised from the dead AFTER the Sabbath which would have been the weekly Sabbath in the year Jesus was crucified. In other words, Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, Nisan 14. The feast of unleavened bread began on Thursday, Nisan 15 which was a high Sabbath day. Friday was Nisan 16. Then that evening on Nisan 17 began the third which was Saturday, the weekly Sabbath from sunset to sunset. Then AFTER the weekly Sabbath during the INTERMISSION of the night between the daylight hours of Nisan 17 and Nisan 18 God raised Jesus from the dead. THEN on Nisan 18 AFTER the Sabbath and the intermission of the night Jesus presented himself to Yahweh to become the FIRSTFRUITS and the HIGHPRIEST. That was the day that Jesus became the eternal Son of Almighty God.



#4. The feast of WEEKS or the feast of PENTECOST.


The feast of weeks was a NEW meat offering that speaks of the church as being NEW creatures that present themselves as LIVING sacrifices unto God. The word Pentecost means fifty. And the DAY that the church began was on the FIFTIETH day from the first weekly sabbath day after the feast of unleavened bread.

For example, the first “weekly” Sabbath day after the even day feast of unleavened bread in the year Jesus was crucified fell on Nisan 26. Leviticus 23:15-17 says to count even COMPLETE Sabbaths from the wave offering that was made during the feast of unleavened bread. Seven Sabbaths is 49 days and the day of Pentecost is on the next day after seven complete Sabbaths which would be 50 days. And 50 days would land in the third month of Sivan on Sivan 10 in the year our Lord was crucified. 

So the day the church began was on a Sunday which is when 120 disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit to be witnesses of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is called the BODY of Christ. In other words, the church is the hands, feet, and mouth of Jesus on the earth. Believers in Jesus are called God’s New creation created in Jesus Christ.


Let us read Leviticus 23:15-17.


“And you shall count unto you from the morrow AFTER the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be COMPLETE: (In other words, the last day of the seven-day feast of unleavened bread is a Sabbath day but it does not always fall on a “weekly” Sabbath day. So the counting of the seven COMPLETE Sabbaths begins on the FIRST “weekly” Sabbath day AFTER the ENDING Sabbath day of the feast of unleavened bread. And form that first Sabbath DAY after the feast of unleavened bread you count seven COMPLETE Sabbath WEEKS which is 49 days)

16.  Even unto the morrow AFTER the seventh Sabbath shall you number fifty days; (Or after you count seven complete Sabbath WEEKS which is 49 days you add one more day which makes the count be FIFTY days) and you shall offer a NEW meat offering unto the LORD. (Again, the NEW meat offering represents Christians offering themselves as a LIVING sacrifice to God which is our reasonable service)

17.  You shall bring out of your habitations TWO wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.”


Again, a loaf of bread represents TEACHING. So to me, the two wave loaves represent the two WITNESS before God which are the church during this PRESENT world and the Jews during the world to come.

Now, the first FOUR SPRING feasts have already been fulfilled. The first three were fulfilled by Jesus directly. And then the fourth feast. The day of Pentecost was fulfilled BECAUSE OF Jesus. For you see, God created us to be new creatures IN our Lord Jesus Christ. So without Jesus, there would be NO BODY of Jesus Christ which is the church.

And seeing that the first four feast days correspond to the very DAY with and event related to the Messiah it makes perfect sense for the REMAINING THREE feast day to ALSO corresponds to events directly related to our Messiah, Jesus.



#5. The feast of TRUMPETS.


The feast of trumpets is in the SEVENTH month on the FIRST day of the month, according to Leviticus 23:23-25.


Leviticus 23:23-25.


“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 

24.  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall you have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of TRUMPETS, a holy convocation. 

25.  You shall do no servile work therein: but you shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.”


I believe that the feast of trumpets foreshadows the SEVENTH trumpet in the book of Revelation chapter 11. For you see, that is WHEN Jesus will return and every eye will see him. And them that pierced him will know that their Messiah has come to DELIVER them. The seventh or last trumpet is when the rapture of the church will occur and the 144,000 children of Israel will be sealed to endure the WRATH of God.

Then nine days later on the TENTH day of the seventh month the feast of the DAY of ATONEMENT will take place during the wrath of God being executed by Jesus.



#6. The feast of the DAY of ATONEMENT.


Please read Lev 23:26-32.  


“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 

27.  Also, on the TENTH day of this SEVENTH month, there shall be a Day of Atonement: it shall be a holy convocation unto you; and you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 

28.  And you shall do no work in that same day: for it is a Day of Atonement, to make an Atonement for you before the LORD your God. (Now, I believe that during the WRATH of God that many Jews will call upon the name of the Lord ON the TENTH day of the SEVENTH month to be saved ALIVE from the Islamic Muslim armies seeking to wipe the Jews in the land of Israel off the face of the earth)

29.  For whatsoever soul it is that shall not be afflicted in that SAME day, he shall be cut off from among his people. 

30.  And whatsoever soul it is that does any work in that SAME day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. 

31.  Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 

32.  It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls: in the NINTH day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall you celebrate your sabbath.”


Now, when you think about Israel being in an all-out war to just survive it is hard to see them laying down their weapons keep this annual Sabbath day. BUT when Israel realizes that their ONLY HOPE is Yahweh then I can see them calling on Yahweh with every fiber of their being as their LAST and ONLY HOPE to survive. Some Christians believe that the rapture of the church will happen on the Day of Atonement. But toe me, the feast of TRUMPETS fits best for the day of the rapture of the church and the CALL to WAR for Israel.


#7. The feast of TABERNACLES.

 

The feast of tabernacles is also called the feast of BOOTHS because during this feast day the children of Israel dwelt in TEMPORARY shelters called booths.


Please read Leviticus 23:33-44.  


“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 

34.  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The FIFTEENTH day of this SEVENTH month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for SEVEN days unto the LORD

35.  On the FIRST day shall be a holy convocation: you shall do no servile work therein. 

36.  SEVEN days you shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the EIGHTH day shall be a holy convocation unto you; and you shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and you shall do no servile work therein. 

37.  These are the feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, everything upon HIS day: (To me, HIS day speaking of Yahweh’s 1000 year long day of rest while Jesus rules for him. Please keep in mind that the 1000 year reign of Jesus is a TEMPORARY dwelling for the children of Isreal and those left alive of the nations who will inhabit the earth in their MORTAL bodies. So the SEVEN-day long feast, to me, represents the SEVENTH 1000 year long day of Jesus as being the Lord of the SABBATH of Yahweh, HIS day. And the EIGHTH day represents the NEW heaven and the NEW earth that Yahweh himself will create after the earth passes away during the second half of God’s WRATH at the END of the Millennial reign of Jesus)

38.  Beside the sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings, which you give unto the LORD. 

39.  Also, in the FIFTEENTH day of the SEVENTH month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast unto the LORD SEVEN days: on the FIRST day shall be a sabbath, and on the EIGHTH day shall be a sabbath. (In other words, God himself is changing the sabbath to the EIGHTH DAY)

40.  And you shall take you on the FIRST day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God SEVEN days. 

41.  And you shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations: you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 

42.  You shall dwell in booths SEVEN days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in BOOTHS: 

43.  That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. 

44.  And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.”


There are many children of Israel all over the world called the dispersed of Israel. And toward the end of the 3 1/2 years of the great tribulation, many in the land of Israel will be taken captive in the Muslim counties surrounding the land of Israel. But God promised to turn again to his people Israel a SECOND time to deliver them. And that second time that God will turn to save Israel will be AT the second coming of Jesus.


Please read Isaiah 11:1-12.


“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: (Speaking of Jesus our Messiah’s FIRST coming) 

2.  And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 

3.  And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 

4.  But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. (Speaking of the SECOND coming of Jesus to execute the WRATH of God upon all the world except for the faithful Christians in Jesus Christ)

5.  And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. 

6.  The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. (Speaking of the 1000 year reign of Jesus)

7.  And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. (Speaking of the 1000 year reign of Jesus)

Isa 11:8  And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. (Speaking of the 1000 year reign of Jesus)

Isa 11:9  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. (Speaking of the 1000 year reign of Jesus)

10.  And in that day (Speaking of during the whole 1000 year reign of Jesus) there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. 

11.  And it shall come to pass in that day, (Speaking of during the whole 1000 year reign of Jesus) that the Lord shall set his hand again the SECOND TIME to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be LEFT, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea

12.  And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.”


And then during the Millennial reign of Jesus, the REMNANT of children of Israel and those LEFT ALIVE of the Gentile nations shall be taught about the Lord from generation to generation throughout the WHOLE 1000 years. In other words, those in their MORTAL bodies during the Millennium will keep the SPIRITUAL feast of TABERNACLES to learn the REASON for keeping the feast days of Yahweh.

Let me explain what I mean by the SPIRITUAL feast of Tabernacles as opposed to the LITERAL ceremonial feast of Tabernacles taught in the Old Testament. All NON-seventh day of the week Sabbath-keeping Christians know and understand that Jesus is our Passover Lamb. And we do NOT keep the feast of Passover in the LITERAL way as taught in the Old Testament. BUT we od, indeed, KEEP the SPIRITUAL feast of Passover by celebrating Jesus, the TRUE PASSOVER Lamb.

And in the SAME way, during the Millennium, those of the nations will come up to Jerusalem from year to year AS they get SAVED to WORSHIP Jesus the King and Almighty God Yahweh to celebrate their TRUE tabernacling of the Holy Spirit dwelling in them. Please notice as you read the following passage of Scripture that the children of Israel are not mentioned. It is only the gentile nations that were left alive in their mortal bodies that go up from year to year to worship and keep the ALEPH-TAV feast of tabernacles.


Zechariah 164:16-19.


“And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came AGAINST Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep (ALEPH-TAV, Jesus) the feast of tabernacles. (In other words, all the Islamic Muslim countries that HATE the Jews with a passion that comes AGAINST Isreal in the last days before Jesus returns will suffer the WRATH of Almighty God. And those LEFT alive will be TAUGHT of the Lord DURING the 1000 year reign of Jesus. And AS they are SAVED by the Gospel of Jesus Christ they will come up to Jerusalem to worship Jesus and Almighty God Yahweh. And also t celebrate the Holy Spirit of God TABERNACLING IN them)

17.  And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain

18.  And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep (ALEPH-TAV, Jesus) the feast of tabernacles. (Which is spiritually symbolic of getting SAVED so that the Holy eternal Spirit of God can TABERNACLE in ONLY the BELIEVERS in Jesus as their Lord and Savior)

19.  This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep (ALEPH-TAV, Jesus)  the feast of tabernacles.” 



 The APELH-TAV is untranslated. Many Christians believe that these first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet that are not translated are hidden prophecies pointing the Jesus. And that is just one of the reasons that I believe that the feast of tabernacles is a PROPHECY pointing to people during the Millennium who KEEP the feast of tabernacles AS they are being SAVED from year to year and the Holy Spirit comes and DWELLS in them or tabernacles in them.

There are THREE annual feast days are associated with the THREE HARVESTS. And AFTER the final HARVEST has ENDED then comes the EIGHTH DAY which is symbolic for the NEW heaven and the NEW earth being created by Yahweh the Father AFTER the Millennial reign of Jesus.

Three times in a year shall all your males appear before the LORD your God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:”


According to the Bible, the ORDER of the THREE harvests where every man is harvested in his OWN ORDER is JESUS becoming the FIRSTFRUIT unto God. THEN WE who are in Jesus at his coming before the 1000 year reign of Jesus will be gathered to God in the SECOND harvest. And the THIRD harvest will be those who get saved DURING the Millennial reign of Jesus. So if people are not saved by then, then there is no hope for them. They will be cast into the lake of fire to be destroyed because they rejected Jesus as their Lord and Savior. They did not keep the SPIRITUAL feast of Tabernacles during the Millennial reign of Jesus

But the question has been asked, what about all the good moral people who never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to be saved?

All the morally righteous people from Adam to Jesus such as Abel and Abraham have already been preached the Gospel in hell when Jesus descended first in the belly of the earth. They rose with Jesus and their souls are in heaven awaiting their new immortal bodies at the SECOND harvest. Please read the study “WHAT AND WHERE IS PARADISE?

So another question has been asked if there will there be a preaching of the gospel to the DEAD at the end of the Millennial reign of Jesus? 

The Bible does not specifically say to my knowledge. We can HOPE that all the good moral people in the world who never had a chance to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be given a chance to hear the Gospel and be saved. But we, as Christian are NOT called to preach what is not actually stated in the Bible itself. So I myself believe that we should never preach that all the dead from the cross to the end of the Millennium who never heard the Gospel will be given the opportunity to hear the Gospel on the final Day of Judgment being a part of the TRUE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ. Also, keep in mind that the people during the Millenium will SEE Jesus so they will be WITHOUT excuse for sure in my own opinion. You would think that they ALL would be saved but that does not seem to be what will happen.

What we do know with absolute certainty is that the books will be opened at the end of the Millennium on the final Day of Judgment and ANOTHER book of life will be opened. And all the people from Adam to the end of the Millennium who did NOT take part in the SECOND harvest AT the SECOND coming of Jesus will be judged BY their WORKS written in those books. And for ME, seeing that God warns Israel that they can be righteous their whole life and then if they TURN from their righteousness and sin then they will DIE in their sin and ALL their righteousness will NOT be remembered leads me to believe that God only records a person's LAST works at their time of death. And the children of Israel said that is not FAIR God which is what we say about people never having the opportunity to hear the Gospel. But God says that all people are WITHOUT EXCUSE because they have the very creation of God to know that there is a God.

19.  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has shown it unto them

20.  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are WITHOUT EXCUSE

21  Because that, when they knew God, (By seeing the CREATION of God) they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (Meaning that they listened to the voice of the deceiver, Satan, the Devil, to follow false Religions to make idols to many false gods)

22.  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 

23.  And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 

24.  Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves

25.  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”


And since God warned his OWN chosen people Israel to NOT TURN from RIGHTEOUSNESS and they will LIVE, then I have to believe that all the good moral people who never had a chance to hear the gospel will also LIVE because of their righteous works. In other words, ONLY those who have never heard the gospel AND who ALSO DIED while REMAINING good moral people NOT living is sin by OBEYING their God-given conscience will be judge BY their LAST GOOD works and LIVE. BUT at the same time, all the unsaved people who never had a chance to hear the gospel who died while LIVING IN SIN shall be judged by their LAST WORKS of living in sin, And these WORKS whether good or bad are already written in the books the moment a person dies. But this is just my OWN personal opinion. 

To me, what the Church of God and some other Christians are teaching about a FOURTH harvest from all the dead from Adam to the end of the Millennium borderlines on universalism where everyone including Satan will eventually be saved.

So I myself would REJECT the Church of God teaching on the eighth-day harvest. First of all, they left Jesus OUT and the three harvests. And IF they include Jesus in the three harvests then they are creating a FOURTH harvest just like the PRE-tribulation rapture teaching tries to squeeze in a FOURTH harvest of tribulation saints. But the Bible itself only speaks of ONLY THREE harvests and every man in their own ORDER.

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and BECOME the FIRSTFRUITS of them that slept. 

21.  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 

22.  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 

23.  But every man in his OWN ORDER: Christ the firstfruits; (Or in order number ONE was Jesus Christ the FIRSTFRUITS unto God as the feast of unleaved bread HARVEST, the FIRST harvest) afterward they that are Christ's AT his coming. (Or in order number two will be ONLY those in this present world who are IN Jesus Christ. This is the SECOND HARVEST of the feast of weeks which is also called the feast of Pentecost. For you see, only those who are IN Jesus Christ have the Holy Spirit dwelling or TABERNACLING in them. So true born-again Christian ARE, indeed, KEEPING the TRUE feast of Tabernacles that the ceremonial feast of tabernacles points to)

24.  Then comes the END, WHEN he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, (In other words, the END is speaking of the THIRD and FINAL HARVEST at the END of the Millennial reign of Jesus AT the great Whit Throne Judgment. For you see, that is WHEN Jesus will commit the kingdom back into the hands of God) even the Father; when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 

25.  For he must reign, till He has put all enemies under his feet. 

26.  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. (Which we know from Revelation chapter 20 will take place after the 1000 year reign of Jesus has ended) 

27.  For He has put all things under his feet. But when He says all things are put under him, it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under him

28.  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto Him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.” 



Again, the TRUE eighth-day is God creating the NEW heaven and the NEW earth where there is NO MORE sea or no more wicked people. And that means no more SIN where people are still trying to overcome sin. And that is why the early church gathered together on the EIGHTH day that they called the Lord's day, the first day of the week, the day that Jesus was resurrected from the dead.

I know that the Church of God and all the other Sabbath-keeping church denominations teach that Jesus was in the grave exactly 72 hours and not one second longer. And then they argue that it is impossible for Jesus to have been raised from the dead on Sunday, the first day of the week. Sabbath-keeping Christians teach this lie so that they can get their followers to KEEP the weekly Sabbath day first. And once they are convinced by twisted Scriptures that they MUST keep the weekly Sabbath day as the Jews, then the Sabbath-keeping church denomination teach their followers that they must keep ALL the Law of Moses.

In TRUTH, Jesus gave up the ghost BEFORE the high Sabbath began. And even his body without his spirit was taken down from the cross and was placed in the tomb BEFORE the high Sabbath began. So if you interpret the three days LITERALLY, as in, exactly 72 hours to the second then they have a case to argue that Jesus was not resurrected on the first day of the week. But Jesus ALSO said that he would be resurrected AFTER three days. So to me, Jesus never intended his words to be taken literally to the exact SECOND and not a second more.

Now, the Roman Catholic Church tries to FORCE three days and three nights between Friday night and Sunday morning but that does not work either.

There is some evidence that all Jewish church kept some of the Law of Moses contained in ordinances. But they did so in their IGNORANCE because they were raised in the customs of the Jewish religion. The early all Jewish church was still yet LEARNING. And by Acts 15, the Holy Spirit revealed to them that all the Law of Moses contained in ORDINANCES was abolished and nailed to the cross.


Please read 1 Corinthians 5:7,8.


“Purge out, therefore, the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ OUR PASSOVER is sacrificed for us

8.  Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but WITH the unleavened bread OF sincerity and TRUTH.” 


In other words, Christians during the early church did NOT keep the LITERAL ceremonial feast of Passover and unleavened bread. But rather, they kept the TRUE SPIRITUAL meaning that the feast days POINTED TO. The feast days and the weekly Sabbath days and ALL the Law of Moses contained in ORDINANCES were a SCHOOLMASTER to lead the children of Israel to Jesus. Below are some quotes from early church writings that prove that the first-century church did NOT keep the weekly Sabbath of any of the Jewish Law of Moses contained in ORDINANCES such as the feast days and the dietary laws. To understand the TRUE meaning of every verse used by Sabbath-keeping Christians to subvert Christians to keep the weekly Sabbath and or the yearly feast days then I implore you to please read all the studies under the heading >>>WHAT IS THE TRUE SABBATH?<<<

Below are some quotes of early church writers that clearly teach us that the early church did NOT keep the Sabbath day, as in, on SATURDAY, the 7th day of the week, but rather the early church throughout history from it's beginning worshiped God on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week, which is sometimes referred to as the EIGHTH day of the week or the day AFTER the Sabbath day, or the LORD'S DAY. (The emphasis is mine in these quotes given below):

The year AD or date is given first and then the source is given at the end followed by the quote from that historical source. The Apostle John was still alive until 100 AD.


#1. 90 AD DIDACHE:

"Christian Assembly on the Lord's Day:


1. But every Lord's day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure.

2. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned.

3. For this is that which was spoken by the Lord: In every place and time offer to me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great King, saith the Lord, and my name is wonderful among the nations." (Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, Chapter XIV)


#2. 100 AD BARNABAS:


"We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD 15:6-8).


#3. 100 AD BARNABAS:


Moreover, God says to the Jews, 'Your new moons and Sabbaths I cannot endure.' You see how he says, 'The present Sabbaths are not acceptable to me, but the Sabbath which I have made in which, when I have rested [heaven: Heb 4] from all things, I will make the beginning of the eighth day which is the beginning of another world.' Wherefore we Christians keep the eighth day for joy, on which also Jesus arose from the dead and when he appeared ascended into heaven. (15:8f, The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, pg. 147)


#4. 110 AD Pliny:


They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath not to (do) any wicked deeds, never to commit any fraud, theft, or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of good food—but food of an ordinary and innocent kind. (About three years after the death of Ignatius in 250, an important official communication was sent from one Pliny to Trojan the Roman emperor. Pliny, the Roman governor of Bithynia, wrote of the Christians who had been congregating there probably from at least A.D. 62 onwards. In this remark, it is explicitly stated that these early Christians observed the substance of most of the Ten Commandments, and it is implied that they observed all ten as far as they were able to do so. As far as they were able, for as most of the early Christians were of slave stock or from other lower classes'-, and those who had heathen masters or employers—the vast majority—would be forced to work on THEIR day of rest, which was unfortunately an official working day throughout the empires' until Constantine's "Sabbath" Edict in 321 A.D. gave them some measure of public protection. Hence one reads that after meeting "on a certain FIXED day before it was light", the first century Bithynian Christians had "to separate"—many of them having to labor for their masters and/or employers from dawn to dusk—"and then reassemble to partake of . . . food". The "certain fixed day" [stato die"'] on which the Christians met, is regarded by Seventh-day Adventists as Saturday'-. Certainly, the expression would seem to indicate a regular day of meeting, probably each week. But Sunday is FAR more likely to have been the "certain fixed day" than Saturday. For if Pliny had been referring to the old Saturday Sabbath, as a Roman he would doubtless have referred to the "later" meeting first and only then to the morning meeting on the day after the "certain fixed day", seeing that the old Saturday Sabbath was demarcated from the evening of one day to the evening of the following day. But Pliny makes no such reference. Instead, he mentions that the pre-dawn meeting took place first—and only afterward, the later meeting; and that both meetings took place on the SAME "certain fixed day". This rather points to the Roman (and—more importantly!—New Testament) midnight to midnight demarcation of modern Sunday-keepers than to the evening to evening demarcation of the Jews and the Seventh-day Adventists.) Also, I myself will further add to the comment of the writer above that mere common sense plainly teaches us that Pliny was clearly speaking of SUNDAY because the LAW that Constantine passed was not to mandate work on SUNDAY, so that these Christians could worship God on SUNDAY. So the CLAIM by the Seventh Day Advent church that the fixed day of worship for Christians was a Saturday is FALSE. Otherwise, Constantine would have made it a law that employers allow Christians off for work on a Saturday rather than on a Sunday. 

This PROVES beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Christians were ALREADY worshiping God on SUNDAY, the FIRST DAY of the week from the very beginning of the church on the day of Pentecost. The truth of the matter is that Constantine only made it easier for Christians to worship God on Sunday without being persecuted by their employers or owners by passing the EDICT making it a LAW to force heathen employers to let their employees have at least some time off from work so that they could worship God on SUNDAY. 

Every Sabbath keeper will AGREE that Constantine's “SABBATH” is referring to SUNDAY as the day of the week and NOT as Saturday being the REST for Christians. Again, all that Constantine did was to pass a law making it EASIER for Christians to worship on the DAY that they had ALREADY been worshiping on since the very beginning, at the DAY of PENTECOST, which is on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week that Christian called the LORD'S day, the day our Lord rose from the grave. 

Open your EYES dear child of God and read what these early church writings are teaching us about the EARLIEST believers as to which day the early church worshiped God. SUNDAY has ALWAYS been the Sabbath or the day of REST of the early church and the church throughout its entire history.


#5. 150 AD EPISTLE OF THE APOSTLES:


-I [Christ] have come into being on the eighth day which is the day of the Lord. (18)


#6. 150 AD JUSTIN.


"He then speaks of those Gentiles, namely us, who in every place offer sacrifices to Him, i.e., the bread of the Eucharist, and also the cup of the Eucharist, affirming both that we glorify His name, and that you profane [it]. The command of circumcision, again, bidding [them] always circumcise the children on the eighth day, was a type of the true circumcision, by which we are circumcised from deceit and iniquity through Him who rose from the dead on the first day AFTER the Sabbath, [namely through] our Lord Jesus Christ. For the first day after the Sabbath, remaining the first of all the days, is called, however, the eighth, according to the number of all the days of the cycle, and [yet] remains the first." (Justin, Dialogue 41:4)


#7. 150 AD JUSTIN:


...those who have persecuted and do persecute Christ, if they do not repent, shall not inherit anything on the holy mountain. But the Gentiles, who have believed on Him, and have repented of the sins which they have committed, they shall receive the inheritance along with the patriarchs and the prophets, and the just men who are descended from Jacob, even although they neither keep the Sabbath, nor are circumcised, nor observe the feasts. Assuredly they shall receive the holy inheritance of God. (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, page 207)


#8. 150 AD JUSTIN:


But if we do not admit this, we shall be liable to fall into foolish opinion, as if it were not the same God who existed in the times of Enoch and all the rest, who neither were circumcised after the flesh, nor observed Sabbaths, nor any other rites, seeing that Moses enjoined such observances... For if there was no need of circumcision before Abraham, or of the observance of Sabbaths, of feasts and sacrifices, before Moses; no more need is there of them now, after that, according to the will of God, Jesus Christ the Son of God has been born without sin, of a virgin sprung from the stock of Abraham. (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, page 206)


#9. 150 AD JUSTIN:


Moreover, all those righteous men already mentioned [after mentioning Adam. Abel, Enoch, Lot, Noah, Melchizedek, and Abraham], though they kept no Sabbaths, were pleasing to God; and after them Abraham with all his descendants until Moses... And you [fleshly Jews] were commanded to keep Sabbaths, that you might retain the memorial of God. For His word makes this announcement, saying, "That you may know that I am God who redeemed you." (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, page 204)


#10. 150 AD JUSTIN.


There is no other thing for which you blame us, my friends, is there than this? That we do not live according to the Law, nor, are we circumcised in the flesh as your forefathers, nor do we observe the Sabbath as you do. (Dialogue with Trypho 10:1. In verse 3 the Jew Trypho acknowledges that Christians 'do not keep the Sabbath.')


#11. 155 AD Justin Martyr:


"[W]e too would observe the fleshly circumcision, and the Sabbaths, and in short all the feasts, if we did not know for what REASON they were enjoined [on] you--namely, on account of your transgressions and the hardness of your heart. . . . [H]ow is it, Trypho, that we would not observe those rites which do not harm us--I speak of fleshly circumcision AND Sabbaths AND feasts? . . . God enjoined you [Jews] to keep the Sabbath and impose on you other precepts for a sign, as I have already said, on account of your unrighteousness and that of your fathers" (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew 18, 21).


#12. 180 AD ACTS OF PETER:


Paul had often contended with the Jewish teachers and had confuted them (Or refuted them completely), saying 'it is Christ on whom your fathers laid hands. He abolished their Sabbath and fasts and festivals and circumcision.' (1: I)-2



#13. 180 AD GOSPEL OF PETER:


Early in the morning when (the Sabbath dawned, a multitude from Jerusalem and the surrounding country came to see the scaled sepulcher. In the night in which the Lord's day dawned, while the soldiers in pairs for each watch were keeping guard, a great voice came from heaven. [There follows an account of the resurrection. Early in the morning of the Lord's day Mary Magdalene, a disciple of the Lord .... came to the sepulcher. (9:34f.; 12:50f.)



#14. 190 AD CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA:


(in commenting on each of the Ten Commandments and their Christian meaning:) The seventh day is proclaimed a day of rest, PREPARING by abstention from evil FOR the Primal day, our TRUE rest. (Ibid. VII. xvi. 138.1)


I will add that the meaning of the word “Primal” means an “ARCHETYPAL” which means an original TYPE pointing to the TRUE. So this early church writer is saying what Paul teaches us in scripture that the things in the OLD Testament are TYPES and SHADOWS or the TRUE which was to come. Jesus became our SABBATH, and we have entered into our REST being in Jesus Christ. The SABBATH was an ARCHETYPAL pointing toward our TRUE REST which was to come being FULFILLED in the ATONEMENT of Jesus.



#15. 190 AD CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA:


He does the commandment according to the Gospel and keeps the Lord's day, whenever he puts away an evil mind . . . glorifying the Lord's resurrection in himself. (Ibid. Vii.xii.76.4)



#16. 190 AD CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA:


Plato prophetically speaks of the Lord's day in the tenth book of the Republic, in these words: 'And when seven days have passed to each of them in the meadow, on the eighth they must go on." (Miscellanies V.xiv.106.2)



#17. 200 AD BARDESANES:


Wherever we are, we are all called after the one name of Christ Christians. On one day, the first of the week, we assemble ourselves together (On Fate)



#18. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:

"We solemnize the day AFTER Saturday in contradistinction to those who call this day their Sabbath" (Tertullian's Apology, Ch 16)


In other words, Tertullian is saying that we Christians DISTINGUISH us from the JEWS who hold Saturday as THEIR Sabbath by solemnizing or referencing the day AFTER Saturday as our day of worship and rest.



#19. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:


It follows, accordingly, that, in so far as the abolition of carnal circumcision and of the old law is demonstrated as having been consummated at its specific times, so also the observance of the Sabbath is demonstrated to have been temporary. (An Answer to the Jews 4:1, Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 3, page 155)



#20. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:


Let him who contends that the Sabbath is still to be observed a balm of salvation, and circumcision on the eighth day because of the threat of death, teach us that in earliest times righteous men kept Sabbath or practiced circumcision, and so were made friends of God. .. ...Therefore, since God originated Adam uncircumcised, and inobservant of the Sabbath, consequently his offspring also, Abel, offering Him sacrifices, uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, was by Him commended... Noah also, uncircumcised - yes, and inobservant of the Sabbath - God freed from the deluge. For Enoch, too, most righteous man, uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, He translated from this world... Melchizedek also, "the priest of most high God," uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, was chosen to the priesthood of God. (An Answer to the Jews 2:10; 4:1, Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 3, page 153)



#21. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:


Others . . . suppose that the sun is the god of the Christians because it is well-known that we regard Sunday as a day of joy. (To the Nations 1: 133)


Keep in mind that this was well BEFORE Constantine SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED the day of rest and worship to Sunday as the Seventh Day Adventist church CLAIMS. But in TRUTH, Christians had ALREADY been worshiping God on Sunday, the FIRST day of the week that they also called the Lord’s Day, the day that our Lord and Savior Jesus rose from the dead. 

So, as early as Tertullian in 200 AD there were groups of JEWS and Christian JEWS who ASSUMED or who SUPPOSED, or who FALSELY ACCUSED Christians of worshiping God on SUNDAY that they were worshiping a sun god and not the true God.



#22. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:


To us Sabbaths are foreign. (On Idolatry, 14:6)4



#23. 220 AD ORIGEN:


"On Sunday none of the actions of the world should be done. If then, you abstain from all the works of this world and keep yourselves free for spiritual things, go to church, listen to the readings and divine homilies, meditate on heavenly things. (Homil. 23 in Numeros 4, PG 12:749)



#24. 220 AD Origen:


"Hence it is not possible that the [day of] rest after the Sabbath should have come into existence from the seventh [day] of our God. On the contrary, it is our Savior who, after the pattern of his own rest, caused us to be made in the likeness of his death, and hence also of his resurrection" (Commentary on John 2:28).



#25. 225 AD The Didascalia:


"The apostles further appointedOn the first day of the week let there be service, and the reading of the Holy Scriptures, and the oblation, because on the first day of the week our Lord rose from the place of the dead, and on the first day of the week he arose upon the world, and on the first day of the week he ascended up to heaven, and on the first day of the week he will appear at last with the angels of heaven" (Didascalia 2).


And I add further that the church BEGAN on the day of Pentecost, on a SUNDAY, the FIRST day of the week. The early church evidence and the word of TRUTH, the Holy Bible, make it quite clear that the early church worshiped God on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week, called the LORD'S day and that they did NOT KEEP the Sabbath day as the JEWS.



#26. 250 AD CYPRIAN:


The eight day, that is, the first day after the Sabbath, and the Lord's Day." (Epistle 58, Sec 4)



#27. 250 AD IGNATIUS:


"If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death-whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master-how shall we be able to live apart from Him, whose disciples the prophets themselves in the Spirit did wait for Him as their Teacher? And therefore He whom they rightly waited for, being come, raised them from the dead. If, then, those who were conversant with the ancient Scriptures came to newness of hope, expecting the coming of Christ, as the Lord teaches us when He says, "If ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me; " and again, "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad; for before Abraham was, I am; " how shall we be able to live without Him? The prophets were His servants, and foresaw Him by the Spirit, and waited for Him as their Teacher, and expected Him as their Lord and Saviour, saying, "He will come and save us." Let us therefore NO longer keep the Sabbath after the Jewish manner, and rejoice in days of idleness; for "he that does not work, let him not eat." For say the [holy] oracles, "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat thy bread." But let every one of you keep the Sabbath after a spiritual manner, rejoicing in meditation on the law, NOT in relaxation of the body, admiring the workmanship of God, and not eating things prepared the day before, nor using lukewarm drinks, and walking within a prescribed space, nor finding delight in dancing and plaudits which have no sense in them. And after the observance of the Sabbath, let every friend of Christ keep the Lord's Day as a festival, the resurrection-day, the queen and chief of all the days [of the week]. Looking forward to this, the prophet declared, "To the end, for the eighth day," on which our life both sprang up again, and the victory over death was obtained in Christ, whom the children of perdition, the enemies of the Saviour, deny, "whose god is their belly, who mind earthly things," who are "lovers of pleasure, and not lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." These make merchandise of Christ, corrupting His word, and giving up Jesus to sale: they are corrupters of women, and covetous of other men's possessions, swallowing up wealth insatiably; from whom may ye be delivered by the mercy of God through our Lord Jesus Christ! (Epistle of Ignatius to the Magnesians, Chapter IX)



#28. 250 AD IGNATIUS:


"On the day of the preparation, then, at the third hour, He received the sentence from Pilate, the Father permitting that to happen; at the sixth hour He was crucified; at the ninth hour He gave up the ghost; and before sunset, He was buried. During the Sabbath, He continued under the earth in the tomb in which Joseph of Arimathaea had laid Him. At the dawning of the Lord's day, He arose from the dead, according to what was spoken by Himself, "As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. "The day of the preparation, then, comprises the passion; the Sabbath embraces the burial; the Lord's Day contains the resurrection." (The Epistle of Ignatius to the Trallians, chapter 9)



#29. 250 AD IGNATIUS:


If any one fasts on the Lord's Day or on the Sabbath, except on the paschal Sabbath only, he is a murderer of Christ. (The Epistle of Ignatius to the Philippians, chapter 8)



#30. 250 AD IGNATIUS:


"This [custom], of not bending the knee upon Sunday, is a symbol of the resurrection, through which we have been set free, by the grace of Christ, from sins, and from death, which has been put to death under Him. Now this custom took its rise from apostolic times, as the blessed Irenaeus, the martyr and bishop of Lyons, declares in his treatise On Easter, in which he makes mention of Pentecost also; upon which [feast] we do not bend the knee, because it is of equal significance with the Lord's day, for the reason already alleged concerning it." (Ignatius, Fragments)



#31. 300 AD Victorinus:


"The sixth day [Friday] is called Parasceve, that is to say, the preparation of the kingdom. . . . On this day also, on account of the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, we make either a station to God or a fast. On the seventh day, he rested from all his works, and blessed it, and sanctified it. On the former day, we are accustomed to fasting rigorously, that on the Lord's day we may go forth to our bread with giving of thanks. And let the Parasceve become a rigorous fast, lest we should APPEAR to observe ANY Sabbath with the Jews . . . which Sabbath he [Christ] in his body ABOLISHED" (The Creation of the World).



#32. 300 AD EUSEBIUS:


"They did not, therefore, regard circumcision, NOR observe the Sabbath NEITHER do we; ... because such things as these do NOT belong to Christians" (Ecc. Hist., Book 1, Ch. 4)



#33. 300 AD EUSEBIUS:


[The Ebionites] were accustomed to observe the Sabbath and other Jewish customs but on the Lord's days to celebrate the same practices as we in remembrance of the resurrection of the Savior. (Church History Ill.xxvii.5)



I will also add that the Ebionites were Christians who were seduced by the Jews to keep the Jewish customs. In other words, the Ebionites were Judaized Christians. The Ebionites also taught the need to be circumcised in the flesh in order to be saved. Some today would not even consider Ebionites as being true Christians since they went back to trusting the Law of Moses to be saved.



#34. 300 AD Eusebius of Caesarea:


"They [the pre- Mosaic saints of the Old Testament] did not care about circumcision of the body, neither do we [Christians]. They did not care about observing Sabbaths, nor do we. They did not avoid certain kinds of food, neither did they regard the other distinctions which Moses first delivered to their posterity to be observed as symbolsnor do Christians of the present day do such things" (Church History 1:4:8).


#35. 300 AD Eusebius of Caesarea:


"The day of his [Christ's] light . . . was the day of his resurrection from the dead, which they say, as being the one and only truly holy day and the Lord's day, is better than any number of days as we ordinarily understand them, and better than the days set apart by the Mosaic Law for feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths, which the Apostle [Paul] teaches are the shadow of days and not days in reality" (Proof of the Gospel 4:16:186).



#36. 345 AD Athanasius:


"The Sabbath was the end of the first creation, the Lord's day was the beginning of the second, in which he renewed and restored the old in the same way as he prescribed that they should formerly observe the Sabbath as a memorial of the end of the first things, so we honor the Lord's day as being the memorial of the new creation" (On Sabbath and Circumcision 3).



#37. 350 AD APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTIONS:


Be not careless of yourselves, neither deprive your Saviour of His own members, neither divide His body nor disperse His members, neither prefer the occasions of this life to the word of God; but assemble yourselves together every day, morning and evening, singing psalms and praying in the Lord's house: in the morning saying the sixty-second Psalm, and in the evening the hundred and fortieth, but principally on the Sabbath-day. And on the day of our Lord's resurrection, which is the Lord's day, meet more diligently, sending praise to God that made the universe by Jesus, and sent Him to us, and condescended to let Him suffer, and raised Him from the dead. Otherwise what apology will he make to God who does not assemble on that day to hear the saving word concerning the resurrection, on which we pray thrice standing in memory of Him who arose in three days, in which is performed the reading of the prophets, the preaching of the Gospel, the oblation of the sacrifice, the gift of the holy food? (Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, book 2)



#38. 350 AD APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTIONS:


"How We Ought to Assemble Together and to Celebrate the Festival Day of Our Saviour's Resurrection. On the day of the resurrection of the Lord, that is, the Lord's day, assemble yourselves together, without fail, giving thanks to God, and praising Him for those mercies God has bestowed upon you through Christ and has delivered you from ignorance, error, and bondage, that your sacrifice may be unspotted, and acceptable to God,..." (Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, book 7)



#39. 350 AD Cyril of Jerusalem:


"Fall NOT AWAY either into the sect of the Samaritans or into Judaism, for Jesus Christ has henceforth ransomed you. Stand aloof from ALL observance of Sabbaths and from calling any indifferent meats common or unclean" (Catechetical Lectures 4:37).



#40. 360 AD Council of Laodicea:


"Christians should NOT Judaize and should NOT be idle on the Sabbath, but should work on that day; they should, however, particularly reverence the Lord's day and, if possible, not work on it, because they were Christians" (canon 29).



#41. 387 AD John Chrysostom:


"You have put on Christ, you have become a member of the Lord and been enrolled in the heavenly city, and you still grovel in the Law [of Moses]? How is it possible for you to obtain the kingdom? Listen to Paul's words, that the observance of the Law overthrows the gospel, and learn, if you will, how this comes to pass, and tremble, and shun this pitfallWhy do you keep the Sabbath and fast with the Jews?" (Homilies on Galatians 2:17).


#42. 412 AD Augustine:


"Well, now, I should like to be told what there is in these Ten Commandments, except the observance of the Sabbath, which ought NOT to be kept by a Christian . . . Which of these commandments would anyone say that the Christian ought not to keep? It is possible to contend that it is not the Law which was written on those two tables that the apostle [Paul] describes as 'the letter that kills' [2 Cor. 3:6], but the law of circumcision and the other sacred rites which are now abolished" (The Spirit and the Letter 24).


#43. 597 AD Gregory I:


"But after that, the grace of Almighty God, our Lord Jesus Christ, has appeared, the commandments of the Law which were spoken figuratively cannot be kept according to the letter. For if anyone says that this about the Sabbath is to be kept, he must need to say that carnal sacrifices are to be offered. He must say too that the commandment about the circumcision of the body is still to be retained. But let him hear the apostle Paul saying in opposition to him: 'If you be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing' (Gal. 5:2)" (Letters 13:1).
