JESUS WORDS ONLY SABBATH TRUTH!

                                                                 EDITED

JESUS WORDS ONLY!

SABBATH TRUTH!

What did Jesus HIMSELF teach us that we must do in order to receive eternal life in the world to come?

One day a young man came up to Jesus and asked him a very specific direct question saying, “What MUST I DO to receive ETERNAL LIFE? And here are the Words of Jesus ONLY in answering this man's question of what we MUST DO in order to receive eternal life in the world to come.

Please read Matthew 19:16-21.

And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I DO, that I may have eternal life?

17.  And he said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but IF you will enter into life, KEEP the commandments.

        18. He said unto him, WHICH?(Please notice that Jesus was asked TWO questions: the first question was what must I DO in order to receive eternal life in the world to come, and Jesus answered, If you want to receive eternal life in the world to come, then you MUST KEEP the COMMANDMENTS. And then Jesus was point blank asked the very SPECIFIC question of WHICH commandments must I KEEP in order to receive eternal life in the world to come and)

Jesus said, #1. You shall do no murder, #2. You shall not commit adultery, #3. You shall not steal, #4. You shall not bear false witness,

19. #5. (You shall) Honor your father and your mother: and, #6. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (So then, according to Jesus Words ONLY, Jesus HIMSELF clearly and plainly teaches us FOUR commandments that are shall NOT DO commandments and TWO commandments that are SHALL DO commandments that we MUST keep in order to receive eternal life in the world to come.)

20. The young man said unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what LACK I yet? (Jesus saw his PRIDE and arrogance BOASTING in this young man and in his OWN self righteousness. Jesus already told him what he MUST DO in order to receive eternal life in the world to come, which were SIX commandments that are not grievous to bear, and please notice that all six of these MUST DO commandments were all MORAL commandments. But this young man wanted to prove that he was BETTER than everyone else so he mocked Jesus, saying surely there must be more than just these six MORAL commandments, I mean surely master, I must be required do more than just keep these six MORAL commandments to be worthy to receive eternal life? And here is what Jesus answered)

21. Jesus said unto him, If you will be PERFECT, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.”

In other words, if you want MORE the just eternal life in the world to come, like that is not good enough for you, and you want to be PERFECT, then go and SELL ALL that you have and give it all away to the poor so you can follow Jesus in full time ministry, and then you will have treasure in heaven.

Now this young man went away sad THINKING that he had to or that he MUST sell everything he had and give it all away to the poor and follow Jesus in full time ministry in order to inherit eternal life. But this is NOT what Jesus is saying.

What Jesus was saying is that if you want to EARN eternal life, then you MUST be PERFECT even as you Father in heaven is perfect, which is IMPOSSIBLE with MEN, but NOT with God, when we do things God's WAY, which is to keep the NEW covenant.

Jesus was the only one, who EARNED the RIGHT to be given eternal life by keeping ALL the law of God to the LETTER and even above and beyond what the law required. Even the disciples misunderstood what Jesus was saying and asked him WHO than CAN be saved? And here is the answer Jesus gave.

Matthew 19:22-30.

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. (this was MORE than he was able to bear. He was thinking I cannot do this so now I am in fear than I will not receive eternal life)

23. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

24. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. (it is not the riches that keep rich people out of heaven, but rather it is their LOVE for riches and their PRIDE that keeps them from following Jesus with a pure heart to do what ever he asks them to do WITH the riches of this world that keeps them out of heaven)

25. When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, WHO then can be SAVED?

26. But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With MEN this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (Jesus is saying that God is about to do a NEW THING in the earth and that is that he is going to make it IMPOSSIBLE for mankind to SAVE THEMSELVES by doing good works. Yahweh is tired of the pride and BOASTING like this young man, who you just heard wanting to know what MORE he needed to do to prove he was worthy to receive eternal life. So from now on it will be IMPOSSIBLE for MAN to save himself by keeping all the laws of God given to Moses. BUT do not be discouraged, because WITH God is in not only possible to be saved, but he is going to make it so much EASIER. Jesus is saying, I spoke the TRUTH to this young man, saying that all he MUST DO was to keep those SIX MORAL commandments, which are NOT grievous at all to bear. I would never lie to anyone.)

27. Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed you; what shall we have therefore? (It seem like they heard the word TREASURE in heaven and they wanted to know WHAT they would receive for giving everything up to follow Jesus in full time ministry.)

28. And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That you which have followed ME, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (Now we will not sit specifically on those twelve thrones, but we all will rule and reign with Jesus during the SEVENTH 1000 year long day of the Lord in which Jesus will rule FOR Yahweh while Almighty God the Father RESTS IN the SEVENTH DAY.)

29. And every one that has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

30. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.”

My point is that Jesus is NOT a LIAR, and he was asked point blank the very SPECIFIC question of WHICH COMMANDMENTS MUST be KEPT in order to receive ETERNAL LIFE in the world to come and Jesus listed SIX and ONLY SIX commandments, which were all MORAL commandments. Go back and read it again. Read ALL the gospels and you will not find ANYWHERE that Jesus HIMSELF taught us to keep the FOURTH commandment.

Yes Jesus himself did indeed keep the Sabbath day as was his CUSTOM from childhood all the way up to his FIRST sermon right after his baptism. Jesus was born UNDER the OLD covenant and being a JEW Jesus did keep the Sabbath day as the Jews up to the time God commissioned him to begin his MINISTRY. From that time on Jesus taught the SPIRIT of why the Sabbath was given to Israel for THEM to keep throughout THEIR generations.

Please read Luke 4:14-21.

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

15. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

16. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom WAS, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. (before this time it WAS the custom of Jesus to keep the Sabbath as the Jews, for Jesus was a Jew, and like all Jews it was their custom to read the scriptures in the synagogue. But THIS Sabbath was DIFFERENT, because this was the day that Jesus BEGAN his ministry that the Father had just commissioned or sent him to accomplish. Jesus was slowly revealing that he was the CHRIST, the ANOINTED one of God prophesied to come.)

17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias (or Isaiah). And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon ME, because he has ANOINTED ME to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent ME to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21. And he BEGAN to say unto them, This day is this scripture FULFILLED in your ears.”

The Jews where searching the scriptures THINKING that they would find eternal life in the LAW and in the prophets, but Jesus said to them that the scriptures spoke of HIM.

Please read John 5:33-47.

You sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.(or when you heard John the baptist preaching repentance you sent some to hear what he had to say and report back to you. Indeed John does bear witness of the truth that God is calling men to repentance, and I tell you that one greater than John is with you.)

34. But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I SAY (or the words that I TEACH are so), that you might be SAVED.

35. He (John) was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

36. But I have GREATER witness than that of John: for the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me.

37. And the Father himself, which has sent me, has borne witness of me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

38. And you have NOT his word abiding in you: for (or BECAUSE) whom he has sent, him you believe NOT. (Jesus is saying how he KNOWS that the word of God does NOT ABIDE in people. Jesus is saying it is NOT about how many verses you can quote or how many commandments you keep, but rather it is do you KNOW that all the law and the prophets speak of JESUS?)

39. SEARCH the scriptures; for IN them (the scriptures, the law and the prophets) you THINK you have ETERNAL LIFE: and they (the scriptures, the law and the prophets) are they which testify of ME.

40. And you will not come to ME, that you might have LIFE.

41. I receive not honor from men.

42. But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you.

43. I am come in my Father's NAME (or I am come in Yahweh's NAME. The NAME of Jesus or Yeshua means the salvation of Yahweh), and you receive me not: if another (prophecy of Muhammad) shall come in his own name, him you will receive. (you see, not all Israel is Israel. There were two seed lines; one of Jacob and one of Ishmael. Jesus perceived that these Jews were the seed of Ishmael and their descendants would follow Muhammad to form a new religion called Islam.)

44. How can you believe, which receive honor one of another (men comparing themselves with by judging each other's works and boasting in their own good works esteeming themselves better than others), and seek not the honor that comes from God only?

45. Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom YOU TRUST.

        46. For HAD you believed Moses (or had you TRULY believed the prophecies of Moses and the shadows he wrote in the law, which point to ME, then), you would have believed ME: for he WROTE of ME. (See Deuteronomy 18:15-19. "The LORD your God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brethren, like unto me; unto HIM you shall hearken; 16.  According to all that you desire of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17.  And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18.  I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19.  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.")

47. But if you believe NOT his writings (That PROPHESY of ME), how shall you believe MY WORDS?”

Jesus had a another conversation in the next chapter of the gospel of John with the Jews, which finally got their attention, at least enough, for them to ask him, WHAT WORKS must we do to work the WORKS OF God?

Please read John 6:27-29.

Labor (or WORK) not for the meat which perishes, but (rather WORK) for that meat which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him has God the Father sealed.

28. Then said they unto him, WHAT shall we DO, that we might WORK the WORKS OF God?

29. Jesus answered and said unto them, THIS IS THE WORK OF God, that you BELIEVE ON HIM whom he has sent.”

Then we read in Matthew 17:4-9 where Peter wanted to build three tabernacles: one for Jesus, one for Elijah, and one for Moses and WHILE Peter was yet speaking these words Yahweh spoke from heaven saying THIS is MY BELOVED SON in whom I am well pleased HEAR YOU HIM. I mean have you already forgotten what he has been teaching you that the prophets Elijah and Moses WROTE of HIM?

Matthew 17:4-9.

Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for YOU, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

5. While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is MY beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; HEAR YOU HIM.

6. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

7. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

8. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus ONLY .

9. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, UNTIL the Son of man be risen again from the dead.”

To ME this is like Almighty God saying to Peter, the Jews, and to us to NOT build shrines to Moses and those in the OLD testament and to place our eyes on his SON Jesus ONLY. Yahweh wants us to keep our eyes on Jesus and on the NEW covenant and the teaching in the NEW testament. STAY is the NEW Testament. OBEY the teachings in the NEW testament under the NEW covenant to keep all the MORAL commandments and you WILL receive eternal life in the world to come.

Jesus knew that he and his disciples were still UNDER the OLD covenant and it was necessary for him to suffer and die and be raised again before the NEW covenant began. So Jesus was saying just a little longer and the NEW covenant will be established in my shed blood and no other covenant will be needed. All the other covenants from Adam to Moses point to ME. The kingdom of God was at hand and very near at the door, but not yet come during the DAYS of the MINISTRY of Jesus before the cross.

And after the cloud lifted they saw Jesus ONLY. This teaches us the we are to follow and obey the words and teachings of Jesus ONLY, which ARE the words written in the NEW Testament under the NEW covenant.

In other words, the ENTIRE NEW Testament ARE the words, teachings, instructions, directions and COMMANDMENTS of the NEW COVENANT. Every thing that Yahweh HIMSELF wants or desires us to KEEP from the OLD covenant is WRITTEN IN the NEW covenant. And if it is NOT written IN the NEW covenant IN the NEW Testament, then Almighty God, Yahweh himself, does NOT want us to keep it.

And there is NO teaching, instruction, direction or commandment for us, as Christian, under the NEW covenant, written IN the NEW Testament to keep ANY day of the WEEK as a day of rest. But there are teachings in the NEW Testament that clearly teach us that the Jews, who become Christians, are no longer obligated to keep the yearly feast days, the monthly new moon festivals, NOR the WEEKLY Sabbaths NOR any dietary laws. And thus proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that NO Gentile Christian is required to live as the Jews under the OLD covenant.

Please read these words of Jesus ONLY first to show that it was Jesus himself through the Holy Spirit, who taught his apostles these NEW THINGS after his ascension, that they could NOT BEAR or receive, until they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and then we will cover the highly controversial passage of scripture found in Colossians 2:8-17.

But first please read John 16:12-13.

I have YET MANY THINGS to say unto you, BUT you can NOT BEAR them NOW.

13. Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of TRUTH, is come, HE will guide you into ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.

15. All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.”

In other words, Jesus was still yet TEACHING his apostles and disciples AFTER his ascension into heaven. They were NOT YET ABLE to BEAR all that Jesus had needed to teach them BEFORE they received to Holy Spirit.

You see dear child of God the Jews were the first to receive the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, which bore witness to them giving them BOLDNESS that God was WITH them dwelling IN them. Then later, when God began saving GENTILES they KNEW that it was God himself saving them through the preaching of the gospel only and their FAITH in the gospel of truth, because they received the same Holy Spirit and spoke in other tongues that same as they had received the Holy Spirit and spoke in other tongues.

This is one of the NEW THINGS Jesus had yet to teach them, BUT knew that they could not or would NOT have believed Jesus BEFORE they received to Holy Spirit. Even then they questioned it for a bit.

Now let us read Colossians 2:8-17.

BEWARE lest any man spoil you through philosophy and VAIN DECEIT, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and NOT after Christ.

9. For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

10. And you ARE COMPLETE IN him, which is the head of all principality and power:

11. IN whom ALSO you are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

12. Buried with him in baptism, wherein also you are risen with him through the FAITH of the operation of God, who has raised him from the dead.

13. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14. BLOTTING OUT the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it OUT OF the way, NAILING it to his cross;

15. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16. Let no man THEREFORE (when you see the words wherefore and therefore find out WHY they are there FOR. The word therefore means let no man judge you for that very reason of Jesus blotting out and taking out of the way the ORDINANCES of the LAW, so so NOT allow them to) judge you in #1. MEAT, or in drink, or in #2. respect of an holy day (any of the yearly feast day Sabbaths), or #3. of the new moon (or in any of the new moon monthly festivals), or #4. of the Sabbath days:(NOR do not let them judge you fro NOT keeping the WEEKLY Sabbath days)

17. Which are a SHADOW of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”

Now some Saturday seventh day of the week Sabbath keeping Christians try and REASON AWAY these verses CLAIMING that Sabbath days in verse 16 is not speaking of the weekly Sabbath days, but if you search the word of God like a good Berean, then you will see that Paul listed these things exactly like like they are listed in the OLD Testament and NO one denies that it is referring to the WEEKLY Sabbaths in the Old Testament. Please read the study "ARGUMENTS FOR THE SABBATH !".

The word “Sabbath” is found 50 times in the four gospels, which I list below. You can look the context us for yourself to see that NOT ONE SINGLE time did Jesus teach US, as Christians to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews.

Jesus was given the PERFECT place in which to TEACH us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews if he wanted us to keep the Sabbath as a DAY of the WEEK to rest.

And at the same time, if so be, that Jesus wanted us to keep the Sabbath as the Jews, then he failed miserably to do so, when he was point blank asked the very SPECIFIC question of WHICH commandments we MUST KEEP in order to receive ETERNAL LIFE in the world to come, and Jesus did NOT even mention the FOURTH commandment of keeping the Sabbath to rest on the seventh DAY of the WEEK as the Jews under the OLD covenant.

But I myself do NOT believe Jesus failed miserably and he told us EXACTLY WHICH SIX commandments that we must keep if we want to receive eternal life in the world to come. Jesus wants us to keep the SPIRIT of the MORAL law and thus gave us ONLY the MORAL law as MUST KEEP commandments in order to receive eternal life in the world to come. Jesus even made the MORAL law stricter under the NEW covenant.

Please read Matthew 19:16-19 again before we cover all the verses with the word "Sabbath" in them contained in the four gospels so you can see for yourself that Jesus himself never once TAUGHT us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews under the OLD covenant.

Matthew 19:16-19.

And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I DO, that I may have eternal life?

17 And he said unto him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but IF you will enter into life, KEEP the commandments.

You shall not bear false witness, (FOUR shall not do commandments)

19. #5. (You shall) Honor your father and your mother: and, #6. You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

And after the four shall not do commandments Jesus gives us TWO shall do commandments making SIX total MUST DO commandments in order to receive eternal life in the world to come. And again please notice that they are all MORAL commandments, which Jesus actually makes STRICTER by keeping the SPIRIT of the law, which is walking in LOVE. In other words, under the NEW covenant we must not simply keep these six moral commandments, but we must LIKE keeping them by not complaining that we HAVE to keep them. We must keep them with joy and not grudgingly with a bad attitude.

Here is the list of all 45 verses that have the word "Sabbath" in them contained in the four gospels.

Matthew 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

Disciples are found working on or BREAKING the Sabbath day by picking corn. Definitely does NOT teach us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews under the Old covenant.

Matthew 12:2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day.

Disciples accused of BREAKING the Sabbath day by the Jesus. Could be INTERPRETED as the JEWS teaching us to keep the Sabbath day, but NOT that Jesus himself is teaching us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews under the Old covenant.

Matthew 12:5 Or have you not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?

Jesus is DEFENDING his disciples for WORKING on the Sabbath as being found blameless for working on the Sabbath day. Again Jesus is not teaching us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews under the Old covenant.

Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day.

This verse has indeed been INTERPRETED to mean that Jesus is teaching us to keep the Sabbath days as the Jews under the OLD covenant. Please read JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH! for the true meaning of this verse, when it is correctly interpreted in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of God as opposed to reading INTO this verse one's OWN personal interpretation.

Matthew 12:10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

Jews wanting to accuse Jesus for working on the Sabbath day if he heals people on the Sabbath day. So again this verse does not teach us to keep the Sabbath day.

Matthew 12:11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

Jesus DEFENDS doing good and things needed to be done on the Sabbath day. Now some INTERPRET these type of verses as Jesus teaching us a NEW WAY to keep the Sabbath day, because they CLAIM that the Jews PERVERTED the true way to keep the Sabbath. Again this is one's OWN personal interpretation being read INTO these verses of Jesus WORKING on the Sabbath day do GOOD for others by healing them on the Sabbath day.

Matthew 12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days.

Jesus DEFENDS doing good and things needed to be done on the Sabbath day. Same as above.

Matthew 24:20 But pray you that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day:

Now this verse is one of a few other verses that are use to try and prove that ALL Christians will keep the Sabbath day in the FUTURE, so therefore they conclude that ALL Christians MUST keep the Sabbath day NOW lest they SIN and lose their reward of eternal life in the world to come. Please read the study SABBATH KEEPING IN THE FUTURE?!

Matthew 28:1 In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.

Teaches us that Jesus rose again after the Sabbath on the first day of the week, but nothing about KEEPING the Sabbath as the Jews.

Mark 1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

Same as Matthew 4:17 and Luke 4:16 the beginning or the ministry of Jesus, when things BEGAN to START changing and the kingdom of God was AT HAND. This was the start of the transition from the OLD covenant to the NEW covenant.

Mark 2:23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the Sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

Same as Matthew 12:1 and Luke 6:1 where the disciples of Jesus were working on the Sabbath day because the were hungry. Many of these fifty times are REPEATS of the same event being repeat in the other two Gospels.

Mark 2:24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the Sabbath day that which is not lawful?

Same as Matthew 12:2 and Luke 6:2 where the Jews accused the disciples of Jesus WORKING on the Sabbath day.

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath:

Notice that the word “day” in not in the text, which teaches us that Jesus is not speaking of a day of the WEEK, but of the yet future 1000 year long seven day of Yahweh's REST while Jesus rules and reigns as the Lord of the SABBATH of Yahweh's rest and we rest from all our works.

Mark 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.

Same as Matthew 12:8 and Luke 6:5. Again please read JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH! for the true meaning of these verses.

Mark 3:2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

The Jews were wanting to accuse Jesus for WORKING on the Sabbath day so again this verse does not teach us that Jesus taught us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews.

Mark 3:4 And he said unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Jesus DEFENDS working on the Sabbath day when that work is doing GOOD for others. Still no sound Biblical evidence of Jesus actually teaching us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews under the Old covenant.

Mark 6:2 And when the Sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

Jesus knew that his God and Father commissioned him to teach and preach that the kingdom of God was at hand. Jesus taught in parables slowly revealing that he was the Christ the anointed one prophesied to come. And again we know that Jesus kept the Sabbath, because he was born under the law. But in none of these verse do we see that Jesus is TEACH us as Gentiles to KEEP the fourth commandment.

Mark 15:42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,

Again no teaching of Jesus for us to keep the Sabbath as the Jews.

Mark 16:1 And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Again still yet no teaching of Jesus for us to keep the Sabbath as the Jews.

Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

BEFORE the MINISTRY of Jesus it was his custom to faithfully keep the weekly Sabbath day as the Jews seeing that Jesus was a Jew born under the law of Moses, But from this point on Jesus went into the synagogues with the purpose to preach and teach the kingdom of God was AT HAND and to reveal that he was the CHRIST the ANOINTED of God who was prophesied to come in the law and the prophets.

Luke 4:31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath days.

What better day of the week upon which to teach the Jews seeing that they would all be gathered together in one place on the Sabbath day. But still we do not see that Jesus taught them or us to KEEP the Sabbath day as the Jews under the OLD covenant.

Luke 6:1 And it came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.

Same as Matthew 12:1 and Mark 2:23 where the disciples of Jesus were WORKING on the Sabbath day.

Luke 6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath days?

This time the Jews accuse Jesus of breaking the Sabbath for not rebuking his disciples for WORKING o the Sabbath day. See also Matthew 12:1 and Mark 2:23 of this SAME account.

Luke 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath.

Same as Matthew 12:8 and Mark 2:28. Again please read JESUS IN THE LORD OF THE SABBATH! for the true meaning of these verses.

Luke 6:6 And it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.

Again Jesus WORKING on the Sabbath day going about doing GOOD and HEALING all who were oppressed of the devil being LEAD by the Spirit of Almighty God the Father to WORK on the Sabbath.

Luke 6:7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the Sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.

Again no evidence of Jesus teaching the Jews or US as Gentile Christians to KEEP the seventh day of the week as a day of rest as the Jews.

Luke 6:9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

Again Jesus defending WORK on the Sabbath to do GOOD, but still no evidence of Jesus teaching the Jews or US to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews.

Luke 13:10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.

The context shows that Jesus was teaching to do GOOD for others on the Sabbath. This was a time of TRANSITION fro the OLD covenant of keeping the LETTER of the law to the NEW covenant of keeping the SPIRIT of the law. OUT of context one may twist this verse to try and prove that Jesus is teaching us to keep the Sabbath. But clearly that wold be one forcing their own personal interpretation on this verse, because we are not told what Jesus taught IN this one verse. But other verses clearly teach us that Jesus taught the Jews that the kingdom of God was AT HAND.

Luke 13:14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.

Have you ever wondered WHY Jesus always seemed to WORK on the Sabbath day to heal to sick doing good for others, when he could have just as easily done this WORK on the other six days of the week?

Luke 13:15 The Lord then answered him, and said, You hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

Again Jesus DEFENDS his WORKING on the Sabbath day of doing GOOD for others. Some work is NEEDED to be done every single day of the year. Your JOB may demand that you WORK on Saturday or Sunday or BOTH Saturday AND Sunday. Good news! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is GOOD NEWS, which under the NEW covenant there is NO such commandment of Yahweh to keep ANY day of the week as a day of OBLIGATION lest you sin. So if your job requires you to work weekends, then work then without guilt of sinning. Please read the studies listed at the end of this study to become fully persuaded in your own mind and heart that WE ARE KEEPING the fourth commandment by our FAITH in Jesus as our SABBATH REST. IS JESUS OUR SABBATH REST?

Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?

Again Jesus DEFENDING working to GOOD for others on the Sabbath day. And providing for your family is a GOOD work dear child of God. The TRUTH will set you FREE from legalism to keep the LETTER of the law.

Luke 14:1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath day, that they watched him.

Jesus had quite a reputation for WORKING of the Sabbath day adn Jews everywhere were watching him keeping their eyes on him to see if he would obey their threats to stop healing people on the Sabbath day when there are six other days of the week he could heal people.

Luke 14:3 And Jesus answering spoke unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?

Again Jesus DEFENDING working of the Sabbath day to do good for others.

Luke 14:5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?

Again we find NO teaching where Jesus taught the Jews nor us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews.

Luke 23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on.

No again, neither does this verse teach us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews.

Luke 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and RESTED the Sabbath day according to the commandment.

Again these were all JEWS born UNDER the law of the OLD covenant and the NEW covenant had not yet been confirmed or established fully for Jesus had not yet ascended to his Father after he was raised from the dead. Jesus ascended to the Father right after talking to Mary Magdalene saying touch me NOT for I have NOT yet ascended to my God and your God to my Father and your Father.

We know that Jesus was NOT speaking of his ascension forty days later, because after telling Mary to NOT touch him, that same evening and the next day he told his disciples TO TOUCH him to see that he was NOT a spirit and the he had a BODY of flesh and bone. But this body was a KNEW IMMORTAL body. Jesus ascended into heaven and the Father gave the Son of man the divine nature of IMMORTALITY even as the Father has always had in himself. See the study WHEN DID JESUS BECOME GOD'S ETERNAL SON?

John 5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath.

Still no sound Biblical teaching of Jesus for us to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews.

John 5:10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the Sabbath day: it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.

We read in the context of this verse that Jesus TOLD this man whom he healed to WORK on the Sabbath day to carry his bed.

John 5:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day.

Over and over we see Jesus WORKING on the Sabbath day. These are all clues teaching us that a TRANSITION is taking place form the OLD covenant to the NEW covenant. Jesus was teaching the Jews that he himself was the FULFILLMENT of the Sabbath rest for them to CEASE from their own works of keeping the LETTER of the law to begin keeping the SPIRIT of the law. This was the reason of WHY the law was given. The law was added TILL the SEED would come. Jesus is that SEED. Jesus IS our Sabbath rest to become Yahweh's workmanship and NOT our OWN workmanship.

John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

In the context hear we see Jesus defending himself saying that he is only OBEYING Yahweh the Father and that it is Yahweh himself who is the one WORKING on the Sabbath to heal these people.

John 7:22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and you on the Sabbath day circumcise a man.

Just like the Jews made the seventh day of the week to be an IDOL unto to them so we see the same thing in some church denominations today who worship Saturday, the seventh day of the week as the Jews placing a DAY of the week above their fellow man. Jesus did not come to teach us the CORRECT way to keep a DAY of the WEEK. He came to BE OUR Sabbath REST so we can enter into his rest to CEASE from our OWN works of self righteousness and BOASTING.

John 7:23 If a man on the Sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the Sabbath day?

Again Jesus is NOT teaching the Jews nor us to keep the Sabbath day. Seventh day of the week Sabbath keeping Christ like to boast how many TIMES the word Sabbath is mentioned in the New Testament to TRY and prove that the KEEPING of the seventh day of the week was TAUGHT in the New Testament. But as you have see not one verse has proven that Jesus clearly and plainly taught us to keep any day of the week as a day of rest.

John 9:14 And it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

Jesus is again WORKING on the Sabbath day doing good works of helping others. The early first century church said let us be SURE to WORK on the Sabbath day and NOT keep the Sabbath day as the JEWS. I have a list of 40 plus quotes from early church writers in the study Sunday worship versus Sabbath keeping?” Here are quotes #2 and #3 from that list of early church writings, which was well before Constantine SUPPOSEDLY changed the Sabbath rest to Sunday:

#2. 100 AD BARNABAS:

"We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead(The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD 15:6-8).

#3. 100 AD BARNABAS:

Moreover God says to the Jews, 'Your new moons and Sabbaths I cannot endure.' You see how he says, 'The present Sabbaths are not acceptable to me, but the Sabbath which I have made in which, when I have rested [heaven: Heb 4] from all things, I will make the beginning of the eighth day which is the beginning of another world.' Wherefore we Christians keep the eighth day for joy, on which also Jesus arose from the dead and when he appeared ascended into heaven. (15:8f, The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers , vol. 1, pg. 147)

John 9:16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keeps not the Sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

Again Jesus being accused of breaking the Sabbath, so again this verse nor any other verse in the four gospels teach us that Jesus taught us to keep the Sabbath day or any day of the week as a day of rest. The day Jesus BEGAN his MINISTRY he WORKED on the Sabbath day doing GOOD for others. Before Jesus BEGAN his ministry it certain can be safe to assume that Jesus being a Jew born UNDER the OLD covenant did indeed keep the Sabbath day as was the CUSTOM of his parents and all other Jews.

But that does not prove that Jesus TAUGHT us as Christians to keep the Sabbath day as the Jews under the OLD covenant. And it is NOT sound Biblical teaching to demand that since Jesus kept the Sabbath, then that proves that we must keep the Sabbath as the Jews under the OLD covenant.

Again every true born again believer IS INDEED KEEPING the TRUE SABBATH REST by their FAITH in Jesus, who suffered and died for their sin. Please read the study IS JESUS OUR SABBATH REST?

John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

So we can see that ALL through the four gospels we only find TWO passages of scripture, which some INTERPRET to mean that Jesus was CLEARLY teaching us to KEEP the Sabbath day as the Jews did under the OLD covenant and thus we MUST keep Saturday, the SEVENTH day of the week as a day of rest AS the Jews from Friday at sunset to Saturday at sunset lest we SIN.

As you may have noticed I highlight those verses in yellow so you could plainly see that I do NOT hide any verses from you my readers and seekers of the truth of the WHOLE word of God, as your church denomination hides them from you.

I cover both of these verse in depth in the studies called JESUS IS LORD OF THE SABBATH! and KEEPING THE SABBATH IN THE FUTURE?, which also covers all the other verses in the Old Testament that prophesy of the children of Israel keeping the Sabbath throughout THEIR generations during the 1000 year reign of Jesus.

Please read all the studies linked within this study and all the studies linked below. This study was just the TIP of the iceberg of exposing the ERRORS of interpretation made by the Saturday seventh day of the week Sabbath keeping churches.

Below are some quotes from the early church writers that prove to all with eyes to see and ears to hear that the early church did NOT keep the seventh day of the week.

Some CLAIM the the early church kept the Sabbath as the Jews, but I assure you that the early first century church were accustomed to gathering together BEFORE the light of day break on the FIRST day of the week that THEY called the Lord's day.

Here is a NON BIAS historical account found in a letter from Pliny the Younger to Trojan concerning the Christians.

Pliny was a Roman who persecuted and killed Christians, so again this is a historical NON BIAS account of WHEN Christians gathered together.

Here is what Pliny says in his letter to Trajan. The EMPHASIS and comments are mine:

That they were WONT (or as they were ACCUSTOMED and USED to do, or in the HABIT of doing)on a STATED day (or on a CERTAIN preset day)to meet together BEFORE IT WAS LIGHT, and to sing a hymn to Christ, as to a god, alternately; and to oblige themselves by a sacrament [or oath], not to do anything that was ill: but that they would commit no theft, or pilfering, or adultery; that they would not break their promises, or deny what was deposited with them, when it was required back again; after which it was their CUSTOM to depart, AND to meet AGAIN at a common but innocent meal,(so after the hard worship service early morning beginning before day light they would depart and they come back together later that same to to share a common simple meal together, and most likely break bread together as other early church writers give more detail) which they had left off upon that edict which I published at your command, and wherein I had forbidden any such conventicles (or religious meetings).”

Below are some quotes of early church writers that clearly teach us that the early church did NOT keep the Sabbath day, as in, on SATURDAY, the 7th day of the week, but rather the early church throughout history from it's beginning worshiped God on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week, which is sometimes referred to as the EIGHTH day of the week or the day AFTER the Sabbath day, or the LORD'S DAY.

(The emphasis is mine in these quotes given below):

The date is given first and the source is given at the end.

Quote number #:

#1. 90 AD DIDACHE:

"Christian Assembly on the Lord's Day:

1. But every Lord's day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure.

2. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned.

3. For this is that which was spoken by the Lord: In every place and time offer to me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great King, saith the Lord, and my name is wonderful among the nations." (Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, Chapter XIV)

#2. 100 AD BARNABAS:

"We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD 15:6-8).

#3. 100 AD BARNABAS:

1, pg. 147)

#4. 110 AD Pliny:

They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath not to (do) any wicked deeds, never to commit any fraud, theft, or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of good food—but food of an ordinary and innocent kind. (About three years after the death of Ignatius in 250, an important official communication was sent from one Pliny to Trajan the Roman emperor. Pliny, the Roman governor of Bithynia, wrote of the Christians who had been congregating there probably from at least A.D. 62 onwards. In this remarkable it is explicitly stated that these early Christians observed the substance of most of the Ten Commandments, and it is implied that they observed all ten as far as they were able to do so. As far as they were able, for as most of the early Christians were of slave stock or from other lower classes'-, and those who had heathen masters or employers—the vast majority—would be forced to work on THEIR day of rest, which was unfortunately an official working day throughout the empires' until Constantine's "Sabbath" Edict in 321 A.D. gave them some measure of public protection. Hence one reads that after meeting "on a certain FIXED day before it was light", the first century Bithynian Christians had "to separate"—many of them having to labour for their masters and/or employers from dawn to dusk—"and then reassemble to partake of . . . food". The "certain fixed day" [stato die"'] on which the Christians met, is regarded by Seventh-day Adventists as Saturday'-. Certainly the expression would seem to indicate a regular day of meeting, probably each week. But Sunday is FAR more likely to have been the "certain fixed day" than Saturday. For if Pliny had been referring to the old Saturday Sabbath, as a Roman he would doubtless have referred to the "later" meeting first and only then to the morning meeting on the day after the "certain fixed day", seeing that the old Saturday Sabbath was demarcated from the evening of one day to the evening of the following day. But Pliny makes no such reference. Instead, he mentions that the pre-dawn meeting took place first—and only after wards the later meeting; and that both meetings took place on the SAME "certain fixed day". This rather points to the Roman (and—more importantly!—New Testament) midnight to midnight demarcation of modern Sunday-keepers than to the evening to evening demarcation of the Jews and the Seventh-day Adventists. (The Covenantial Sabbath, Francis Nigel Lee, Pg 242)

Also I myself will further add to the comment of the writer above that mere common sense plainly teaches us that Pliny was clearly speaking of SUNDAY, because the LAW that Constantine passed was not to mandate work on SUNDAY so that these Christians could worship God on SUNDAY. So the CLAIM by the Seventh Day Advent church that the fixed day of worship for Christians was a Saturday is FALSE. Other wise Constantine would have made it a law the employers allowed Christians off for work on a Saturday rather than on a Sunday.

This PROVES beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Christians were ALREADY worshiping God on SUNDAY the FIRST DAY of the week from the very beginning of the church on the day of Pentecost. The truth of the matter is that Constantine only made it easier for Christians to worship God on Sunday without being persecuted by their employers or owners by passing the EDICT making it a LAW to force heathen employers to let their employees have at least some time off from work so that they could worship God on SUNDAY.

Every Sabbath keeper will AGREE that Constantine's "SABBATH" is referring to SUNDAY as the day of the week and NOT as Saturday being the REST for Christians. Again all the Constantine did was to pass a law making it EASIER fro Christian to worship on the DAY that they had ALREADY been worshiping on since the very beginning at the DAY of PENTECOST, which is on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week that Christian called the LORD'S day the day our Lord rose from the grave.

Open your EYES dear child of God and read what these early church writings are teaching us about the EARLIEST believers as to which day the early church worshiped God. SUNDAY has ALWAYS been the Sabbath or the day of REST of the early church and the church throughout it's entire history.

#5. 150 AD EPISTLE OF THE APOSTLES:

- I [Christ] have come into being on the eighth day which is the day of the Lord. (18)

#6. 150 AD JUSTIN:

"He then speaks of those Gentiles, namely us, who in every place offer sacrifices to Him, i.e., the bread of the Eucharist, and also the cup of the Eucharist, affirming both that we glorify His name, and that you profane [it]. The command of circumcision, again, bidding [them] always circumcise the children on the eighth day, was a type of the true circumcision, by which we are circumcised from deceit and iniquity through Him who rose from the dead on the first day AFTER the Sabbath, [namely through] our Lord Jesus Christ. For the first day after the Sabbath, remaining the first of all the days, is called, however, the eighth, according to the number of all the days of the cycle, and [yet] remains the first.". (Justin, Dialogue 41:4)

#7. 150 AD JUSTIN:

...those who have persecuted and do persecute Christ, if they do not repent, shall not inherit anything on the holy mountain. But the Gentiles, who have believed on Him, and have repented of the sins which they have committed, they shall receive the inheritance along with the patriarchs and the prophets, and the just men who are descended from Jacob, even although theyneither keep the Sabbath, nor are circumcised, nor observe the feasts. Assuredly they shall receive the holy inheritance of God. (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers , vol. 1, page 207)

#8. 150 AD JUSTIN:

But if we do not admit this, we shall be liable to fall into foolish opinion, as if it were not the same God who existed in the times of Enoch and all the rest, who neither were circumcised after the flesh, nor observed Sabbaths, nor any other rites, seeing that Moses enjoined such observances... For if there was no need of circumcision before Abraham, or of the observance of Sabbaths, of feasts and sacrifices, before Moses; no more need is there of them now, after that, according to the will of God, Jesus Christ the Son of God has been born without sin, of a virgin sprung from the stock of Abraham. (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers , vol. 1, page 206)

#9. 150 AD JUSTIN:

Moreover, all those righteous men already mentioned [after mentioning Adam. Abel, Enoch, Lot, Noah, Melchizedek, and Abraham], though they kept no Sabbaths, were pleasing to God; and after them Abraham with all his descendants until Moses... And you [fleshly Jews] were commanded to keep Sabbaths, that you might retain the memorial of God. For His word makes this announcement, saying, "That you may know that I am God who redeemed you." (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers , vol. 1, page 204)

#10. 150 AD JUSTIN:

There is no other thing for which you blame us, my friends, is there than this? That we do not live according to the Law, nor, are we circumcised in the flesh as your forefathers, nor do we observe the Sabbath as you do. (Dialogue with Trypho 10:1. In verse 3 the Jew Trypho acknowledges that Christians 'do not keep the Sabbath.')

#11. 155 AD Justin Martyr:

"[W]e too would observe the fleshly circumcision, and the Sabbaths, and in short all the feasts, if we did not know for what REASON they were enjoined [on] you--namely, on account of your transgressions and the hardness of your heart. . . . [H]ow is it, Trypho, that we would not observethose rites which do  not harm us--I speak of fleshly circumcision AND Sabbaths AND feasts? . . . God enjoined you [Jews] to keep the Sabbath, and impose on you other precepts for a sign, as I have already said, on account of your unrighteousness and that of your fathers" (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew 18, 21).

#12. 180 AD ACTS OF PETER:

Paul had often contended with the Jewish teachers and had confuted them, saying 'it is Christ on whom your fathers laid hands. He abolished their Sabbath and fasts and festivals and circumcision.' (1: I)-2

#13. 180 AD GOSPEL OF PETER:

Early in the morning when (the Sabbath dawned, a multitude from Jerusalem and the surrounding country came to see the scaled sepulchre. In the night in which the Lord's day dawned, while the soldiers in pairs for each watch were keeping guard, a great voice came from heaven. [There follows an account of the resurrection. Early in the morning of the Lord's day Mary Magdalene, a disciple of the Lord .... came to the sepulchre. (9:34f.; 12:50f.)

#14. 190 AD CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA:

(in commenting on each of the Ten Commandments and their Christian meaning:) The seventh day is proclaimed a day of rest, PREPARING by abstention from evil FOR the Primal day, our TRUE rest. (Ibid. VII. xvi. 138.1)

I will add that the meaning of the word "Primal" means an "ARCHETYPAL", which means an original TYPE pointing to the TRUE. So this early church writer is saying what Paul teaches us in scripture that the things in the OLD Testament are TYPES and SHADOWS or the TRUE which was to come. Jesus became our SABBATH, and we have entered into our REST being in Jesus Christ. The SABBATH was an ARCHETYPAL pointing toward our TRUE REST which was to come being FULFILLED in the ATONEMENT of Jesus.

#15. 190 AD CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA:

He does the commandment according to the Gospel and keeps the Lord's day, whenever he puts away an evil mind . . . glorifying the Lord's resurrection in himself. (Ibid. Vii.xii.76.4)

#16. 190 AD CLEMENT OF ALEXANDRIA:

Plato prophetically speaks of the Lord's day in the tenth book of the Republic, in these words: 'And when seven days have passed to each of them in the meadow, on the eighth they must go on." (Miscellanies V.xiv.106.2)

#17. 200 AD BARDESANES:

Wherever we are, we are all called after the one name of Christ Christians. On one day, the first of the week, we assemble ourselves together (On Fate)

#18. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:

"We solemnize the day AFTER Saturday in contradistinction to those who call this day their Sabbath" (Tertullian's Apology, Ch 16)

In other words, Tertullian is saying that we Christians DISTINGUISH us from the JEWS who hold Saturday as THEIR Sabbath by solemnizing or reverencing the day AFTER Saturday as our day of worship and rest.

#19. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:

It follows, accordingly, that, in so far as the abolition of carnal circumcision and of the old law is demonstrated as having been consummated at its specific times, so ALSO the observance of the Sabbath is demonstrated to have been temporary. (An Answer to the Jews 4:1, Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 3, page 155)

#20. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:

Let him who contends that the Sabbath is still to be observed a balm of salvation, and circumcision on the eighth day because of threat of death, teach us that in earliest times righteous men kept Sabbath or practiced circumcision, and so were made friends of God. .. ...Therefore, since God originated Adam uncircumcised, and inobservant of the Sabbath, consequently his offspring also, Abel, offering Him sacrifices, uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, was by Him commended... Noah also, uncircumcised - yes, and inobservant of the Sabbath - God freed from the deluge. For Enoch, too, most righteous man, uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, He translated from this world... Melchizedek also, "the priest of most high God," uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, was chosen to the priesthood of God. (An Answer to the Jews 2:10; 4:1, Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 3, page 153)

#21. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:

Others . . . suppose that the sun is the god of the Christians, because it is well-known that we regard Sunday as a day of joy. (To the Nations 1: 133)

Keep in mind that this was well BEFORE Constantine SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED the day of rest and worship to SUNday as the Seventh Day Adventist church CLAIMS. But it TRUTH Christians had ALREADY been worshiping God on SUNDAY, the FIRST day of the week that they also called the LORD'S day, the day that our Lord and savior Jesus rose from the dead.

So as early as Tertullian in 200 AD there were groups of JEWS and Christian JEWS who ASSUMED or who SUPPOSED, or who FALSELY ACCUSED Christians for worshiping God on SUNDAY that they were worshiping a sun god and not the true God.

#22. 200 AD TERTULLIAN:

To us Sabbaths are foreign. (On Idolatry, 14:6)4

#23. 220 AD ORIGEN:

"On Sunday none of the actions of the world should be done. If then, you abstain from all the works of this world and keep yourselves free for spiritual things, go to church, listen to the readings and divine homilies, meditate on heavenly things. (Homil. 23 in Numeros 4, PG 12:749)

#24. 220 AD Origen:

"Hence it is not possible that the [day of] rest after the Sabbath should have come into existence from the seventh [day] of our God. On the contrary, it is our Savior who, after the pattern of his own rest, caused us to be made in the likeness of his death, and hence also of his resurrection" (Commentary on John 2:28).

#25. 225 AD The Didascalia:

"The apostles further appointedOn the first day of the week let there be service, and the reading of the Holy Scriptures, and the oblation, because on the first day of the week our Lord rose from the place of the dead, and on the first day of the week he arose upon the world, and on the first day of the week he ascended up to heaven, and on the first day of the week he will appear at last with the angels of heaven" (Didascalia 2).

And I add further that the church BEGAN on the day of Pentecost on a SUNDAY, the FIRST day of the week. The early church evidence and the word of TRUTH, the Holy Bible make it quite clear that the early church worshiped God on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week, called the LORD'S day and that they did NOT KEEP the Sabbath day as the JEWS.

#26. 250 AD CYPRIAN:

The eight day, that is, the first day after the Sabbath, and the Lord's Day." (Epistle 58, Sec 4)

#27. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

"If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death-whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master-how shall we be able to live apart from Him, whose disciples the prophets themselves in the Spirit did wait for Him as their Teacher? And therefore He whom they rightly waited for, being come, raised them from the dead. If, then, those who were conversant with the ancient Scriptures came to newness of hope, expecting the coming of Christ, as the Lord teaches us when He says, "If ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me; " and again, "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it, and was glad; for before Abraham was, I am; " how shall we be able to live without Him? The prophets were His servants, and foresaw Him by the Spirit, and waited for Him as their Teacher, and expected Him as their Lord and Saviour, saying, "He will come and save us." Let us therefore NO longer keep the Sabbath after the Jewish manner, and rejoice in days of idleness; for "he that does not work, let him not eat." For say the [holy] oracles, "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat thy bread." But let every one of you keep the Sabbath after a spiritual manner, rejoicing in meditation on the law, NOT in relaxation of the body, admiring the workmanship of God, and not eating things prepared the day before, nor using lukewarm drinks, and walking within a prescribed space, nor finding delight in dancing and plaudits which have no sense in them. And after the observance of the Sabbath, let every friend of Christ keep the Lord's Day as a festival, the resurrection-day, the queen and chief of all the days [of the week].Looking forward to this, the prophet declared, "To the end, for the eighth day," on which our life both sprang up again, and the victory over death was obtained in Christ, whom the children of perdition, the enemies of the Saviour, deny, "whose god is their belly, who mind earthly things," who are "lovers of pleasure, and not lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." These make merchandise of Christ, corrupting His word, and giving up Jesus to sale: they are corrupters of women, and covetous of other men's possessions, swallowing up wealth insatiably; from whom may ye be delivered by the mercy of God through our Lord Jesus Christ! (Epistle of Ignatius to the Magnesians, Chapter IX)

#28. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

"On the day of the preparation, then, at the third hour, He received the sentence from Pilate, the Father permitting that to happen; at the sixth hour He was crucified; at the ninth hour He gave up the ghost; and before sunset He was buried. During the Sabbath He continued under the earth in the tomb in which Joseph of Arimathaea had laid Him. At the dawning of the Lord's day He arose from the dead, according to what was spoken by Himself, "As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. "The day of the preparation, then, comprises the passion; the Sabbath embraces the burial; the Lord's Day contains the resurrection." (The Epistle of Ignatius to the Trallians, chapter 9)

#29. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

If any one fasts on the Lord's Day or on the Sabbath, except on the paschal Sabbath only, he is a murderer of Christ. (The Epistle of Ignatius to the Philippians, chapter 8)

#30. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

"This [custom], of not bending the knee upon Sunday, is a symbol of the resurrection, through which we have been set free, by the grace of Christ, from sins, and from death, which has been put to death under Him. Now this custom took its rise from apostolic times, as the blessed Irenaeus, the martyr and bishop of Lyons, declares in his treatise On Easter, in which he makes mention of Pentecost also; upon which [feast] we do not bend the knee, because it is of equal significance with the Lord's day, for the reason already alleged concerning it." (Ignatius, Fragments)

#31. 300 AD Victorinus:

"The sixth day [Friday] is called parasceve, that is to say, the preparation of the kingdom. . . . On this day also, on account of the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, we make either a station to God or a fast. On the seventh day he rested from all his works, and blessed it, and sanctified it. On the former day we are accustomed to fast rigorously, that on the Lord's day we may go forth to our bread with giving of thanks. And let the parasceve become a rigorous fast, lest we should APPEAR to observe ANY Sabbath with the Jews . . . which Sabbath he [Christ] in his body ABOLISHED" (The Creation of the World).

#32. 300 AD EUSEBIUS:

"They did not, therefore, regard circumcision, NOR observe the Sabbath NEITHER do we; ... because such things as these do NOT belong to Christians" (Ecc. Hist., Book 1, Ch. 4)

#33. 300 AD EUSEBIUS:

[The Ebionites] were accustomed to observe the Sabbath and other Jewish customs but on the Lord's days to celebrate the same practices as we in remembrance of the resurrection of the Savior. (Church History Ill.xxvii.5)

I will also add that the Ebionites were Christians who were seduced by the Jews to keep the Jewish customs. In other words, the Ebionites were Judanized Christians. The Ebionites also taught the need to be circumcised in the flesh in order to be saved. Some today would not even consider Ebionites as being true Christians since they went back to trusting the law of Moses to be saved.

#34. 300 AD Eusebius of Caesarea:

"They [the pre- Mosaic saints of the Old Testament] did not care about circumcision of the body, neither do we [Christians]. They did not care about observing Sabbaths, nor do we. They did not avoid certain kinds of food, neither did they regard the other distinctions which Moses first delivered to their posterity to be observed as symbolsnor do Christians of the present day do such things" (Church History 1:4:8).

#35. 300 AD Eusebius of Caesarea:

"The day of his [Christ's] light . . . was the day of his resurrection from the dead, which they say, as being the one and only truly holy day and the Lord's day, is better than any number of days as we ordinarily understand them, and better than the days set apart by the Mosaic Law for feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths, which the Apostle [Paul] teaches are the shadow of days and not days in reality" (Proof of the Gospel 4:16:186).

#36. 345 AD Athanasius:

"The Sabbath was the end of the first creation, the Lord's day was the beginning of the second, in which he renewed and restored the old in the same way as he prescribed that they should formerly observe the Sabbath as a memorial of the end of the first things, so we honor the Lord's day as being the memorial of the new creation" (On Sabbath and Circumcision 3).

#37. 350 AD APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTIONS:

Be not careless of yourselves, neither deprive your Saviour of His own members, neither divide His body nor disperse His members, neither prefer the occasions of this life to the word of God; but assemble yourselves together every day, morning and evening, singing psalms and praying in the Lord's house: in the morning saying the sixty-second Psalm, and in the evening the hundred and fortieth, but principally on the Sabbath-day. And on the day of our Lord's resurrection, which is the Lord's day, meet more diligently, sending praise to God that made the universe by Jesus, and sent Him to us, and condescended to let Him suffer, and raised Him from the dead. Otherwise what apology will he make to God who does not assemble on that day to hear the saving word concerning the resurrection, on which we pray thrice standing in memory of Him who arose in three days, in which is performed the reading of the prophets, the preaching of the Gospel, the oblation of the sacrifice, the gift of the holy food? (Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, book 2)

#38. 350 AD APOSTOLIC CONSTITUTIONS:

"How We Ought to Assemble Together, and to Celebrate the Festival Day of Our Saviour's Resurrection. On the day of the resurrection of the Lord, that is, the Lord's day, assemble yourselves together, without fail, giving thanks to God, and praising Him for those mercies God has bestowed upon you through Christ, and has delivered you from ignorance, error, and bondage, that your sacrifice may be unspotted, and acceptable to God,..." (Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, book 7)

#39. 350 AD Cyril of Jerusalem:

"Fall NOT AWAY either into the sect of the Samaritans or into Judaism, for Jesus Christ has henceforth ransomed you. Stand aloof from ALL observance of Sabbaths and from calling any indifferent meats common or unclean" (Catechetical Lectures 4:37).

#40. 360 AD Council of Laodicea:

"Christians should NOT Judaize and should NOT be idle on the Sabbath, but should work on that day; they should, however, particularly reverence the Lord's day and, if possible, not work on it, because they were Christians" (canon 29).

#41. 387 AD John Chrysostom:

"You have put on Christ, you have become a member of the Lord and been enrolled in the heavenly city, and you still grovel in the Law [of Moses]? How is it possible for you to obtain the kingdom? Listen to Paul's words, that the observance of the Law overthrows the gospel, and learn, if you will, how this comes to pass, and tremble, and shun this pitfallWhy do you keep the Sabbath and fast with the Jews?" (Homilies on Galatians 2:17).

#42. 412 AD Augustine:

"Well, now, I should like to be told what there is in these Ten Commandments, except the observance of the Sabbath, which ought NOT to be kept by a Christian . . . Which of these commandments would anyone say that the Christian ought not to keep? It is possible to contend that it is not the Law which was written on those two tables that the apostle [Paul] describes as 'the letter that kills' [2 Cor. 3:6], but the law of circumcision and the other sacred rites which are now abolished" (The Spirit and the Letter 24).

#43. 597 AD Gregory I:

"But after that the grace of almighty God, our Lord Jesus Christ, has appeared, the commandments of the Law which were spoken figuratively cannot be kept according to the letter. For if anyone says that this about the Sabbath is to be kept, he must needs say that carnal sacrifices are to be offered. He must say too that the commandment about the circumcision of the body is still to be retained. But let him hear the apostle Paul saying in opposition to him: 'If you be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing' (Gal. 5:2)" (Letters 13:1).
