S101-6. What Does John 8:33 TRULY MEAN?

Chapter 6.

At the end of chapter 5 we learned in John 8:33 that the Jews who believed in Jesus, at least for a little, said that THEY were never in BONGAGE. And since the children of Israel were indeed in BONDAGE in the land of Egypt. Then that one verse of Scripture “supposedly” proves that THOSE Jews are NOT the children of Israel because the children of Israel were in bondage in the land of Egypt, according to the “interpretation” of that verse by SOME Christians.

In other words, that is HOW the Jesus Words ONLY Christians “interpret” John 8:33 to try and prove that EVERY SINGLE JEW in the New Testament are the Edomite people. And thus, to THEM, not even ONE person that is called a JEW in the Bible is a true Israelite or ANY of the twelve tribes of Israel.

So let us go ahead and read that verse of Scripture OUT of its CONTEXT, which is what the Jesus Words ONLY Christians do so they can read into the Scriptures what they need those verses to mean so that they can SUBVERT Christians to keep the Law of Moses like they do.

John 8:33.

“They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: What do you mean when you say, You shall be made free?”

Again, according to the Jesus Words ONLY Christians, they argue that since the children of Israel were in bondage in Egypt and these JEWS said that they have never been in bondage to ANY MAN, then that PROVES that ALL of the people in the Bible called the Jews are NOT the children of Israel. But rather, the Jesus Words ONLY Christians argue that they are the Edomite people who converted to the faith of the children of Israel to keep the Law of Moses. And thus, to the Jesus Words ONLY Christians, not one person called a Jew in the Bible are from the Tribe of Judah, because ALL of the Tribe of Judah was taken captive in the land of Babylon in 568 BC and NEVER came back to their OWN homeland in the land of Judah.

NO! All that John 8:33 proves is that THOSE particular Jews in THAT GENERATION had never been in bondage to any man. And they are asking Jesus HOW can we be set FREE seeing that WE have never been in bondage to any man?

Jesus perceived that they MISUNDERSTOOD his words so he clarified what he meant about being in bondage. So let us go ahead and read the CONTEXT found in John 8:31-37 so that you can learn the TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning of John 8:33.

John 8:31-37.

“Then said Jesus to THOSE Jews which believed in him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; (It does no good to believe in Jesus and NOT CONTINUE in his word. And IF you do CONTINUE in his words written in the New Testament under the NEW COVENANT, then you are his disciples INDEED)

32. And you shall know the TRUTH, and the TRUTH shall make you free.

33. They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: What do you mean when you say, You shall be made free? (In other words, THOSE Jews believe the words of Jesus, but they did not UNDERSTAND how they could be set free from being in bondage when they THEMSELVES have never been in bondage like the father were in the land of Egypt who had already been SET FREE from BONDAGE? Jesus perceived that the Jew MISUNDERSTOOD what he meant by being in BONDAGE. So Jesus cleared up that misunderstanding by EXPLAIN what he meant by being on bondage)

34. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whoever commits sin is the SERVANT of sin. (Or whoever commits sin is a SLAVE of sin and in BONDAGE to the penalty of sin, which is DEATH, speaking of the second death in the lake of fire)

35. And the servant (Or the SLAVE in bondage to the second death) abides NOT in the house for ever: but the Son abides ever. (So Jesus is teaching the Jews HOW to become the eternal sons of God, which is abiding in the Son of God whom God ORDAINED)

36. If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

37. I know that you are Abraham's seed; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. (Jesus was a Prophet sent by the God of Abraham to the children of ISRAEL and the Tribe of Judah is a PART of the children of Israel. And SOME of the chosen PEOPLE of God from BOTH the house of Israel AND from the house of Judah wanted to KILL Jesus)

38. I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do that which you have seen with your father.”

In other words, Jesus is saying that you can SAY you are JEWS but you are NOT Jews INWARDLY because you SERVE your father the Devil.

And that is when the Jews who were Jews OUTWARDLY really began to plot to KILL Jesus. But again, it was not ALL of the Jews who wanted to kill Jesus. It was the LEADERS of the Jews in the land of Judaea and the LEADERS of the men of Israel in Galilee who wanted to kill Jesus.

I will prove to you from the Scriptures that THOSE JEWS in John 8:33 where the SAME chosen PEOPLE of God in the synagogue that was in the city of Nazareth, which is in GALILEE. For you see, the Jesus Words ONLY Christians dogmatically demand that only the people for Galilee are the TRUE Israelite people and ALL the men of Judaea in Acts 2:14 are ALL the Edomite people and not even ONE of the men of Judaea is from the Tribe of Judah.

But that is NOT what the Bible ITSELF teaches us. In Luke chapter 4, we can see that Jesus BEGAN his ministry in his own home town of Nazareth in Galilee. So then, while Jesus was BORN in the city of King David in the land of Judah in the lineage of the Tribe of Judah, according to Luke 3:4,11, he was raised in the city of Nazareth in Galilee, according to Matthew 2:23, Luke 2:21-52, and many other passages of Scripture. Let us go ahead and read that passage of Scripture in Luke chapter 4 where we see Jesus BEGINNING his ministry in his own home town of Nazareth so that you can see that the chosen people of God in Galilee are the SAME chosen people of God CALLED the Jews in John 8:33.

Luke 4:14-24, 26-30.

“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into GALILEE: and there went out a fame of him through all the region roundabout.

15. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

16. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, (Of him in prophecy being the MESSIAH)

18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21. And he began to say unto them, (The chosen people of God in GALILEE) This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears. (In other words, Jesus is saying to the chosen PEOPLE of God that he is the MESSIAH, the one prophesied in the Scriptures. And Jesus told these SAME Jews AGAIN in John 8:24-33 that if they did not believe who he told THEM in the BEGINNING that he was, then they would remain dead in their sins. Keep reading and you will see that these GALILEAN people of God wanted to KILL Jesus)

22. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

23. And he said unto them, YOU will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your country.

24. And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country… (So CLEARLY these chosen people of God are FROM Nazareth in Galilee and NOT just VISITING the city of Nazareth. And thus, they are TRUE Galileans and TRUE Israelites. But they are CALLED Jews in John chapter 8 as you will soon see)

…28. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

29. And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. (Here we see that these TRUE Galilean Israelites wanted to KILL Jesus)

30. But he passing through the midst of them went his way,”

Now let us read the CONTEXT of John 8:33 starting at verse 20 so you can see that Jesus told the chosen PEOPLE of God in Galilee from the very BEGINNING of his ministry the SAME thing that he is telling them AGAIN in Jerusalem in the Temple at Jerusalem. But this time Jesus calls them by the TITLE “JEWS”.

Please read John 8:20-33.

“These words spoke Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour had not yet come.

21. Then said Jesus AGAIN unto them, I go my way, and you shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, you cannot come.

22. Then said the JEWS, Will he kill himself? Because he said, Where I go, you cannot come.

23. And he said unto them, You are from beneath; I am from above: you are of this world; I am not of this world.

24. I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if YOU believe not that I am he, YOU shall die in your sins.

25. Then said they unto him, Who are you? And Jesus said unto them, Even the SAME that I said unto YOU from the beginning. (In other words, Jesus told the true Israelites in GALILEE that he is the one PROPHESIED in the Scriptures saying, this Scripture is FULFILLED in your ears)

26. I have many things to say and to judge of you: but He that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of Him.

27. They understood not that he spoke to them of the Father.

28. Then said Jesus unto them, When YOU have lifted up the Son of man, then shall YOU know that I am he, (Compare to Acts 2:22,23, Acts 3:12-14, and Matthew 27:9 where the children of ISRAEL are the ones who had Jesus crucified. So clearly, ALL of the children of Israel are called by the TITLE the “JEWS”. But it was the LEADERS of the men of Israel who plotted and stirred up SOME of the chosen PEOPLE of God to have Jesus crucified by having the mob cry out, crucify him. And we can ALSO clearly see that it was the SENATE of the men of Israel who stirred up the people against the disciples of Jesus. The COMMON people of God FEARED the LEADERS of the children of Israel) and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things.

29. And he that sent me is WITH me: the Father has not left me alone; for I always do those things that please Him.

30. As he spoke these words, MANY BELIEVED in him. (And most likely they were the common people of God, but a FEW leaders like Nicodemus sought out Jesus in the NIGHT so the OTHER LEADERS of Israel would not see them)

31. Then said Jesus to THOSE Jews which believed in him, (Who just asked him WHO are you. And Jesus said to THEM, I am the SAME that I told you in the BEGINNING. I am the ANOINTED one prophesied in the Scripture that God is WITH that I told you in the synagogue in Nazareth of GALILEE) If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed;

32. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33. They (The SAME chosen PEOPLE of God that Jesus told WHO he is in Nazareth of Galilee) answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: What do you MEAN when you say, You shall be made free?”

Again, the chosen PEOPLE of God in THAT GENERATION were never in bondage like the fathers, the children of Israel, were indeed in bondage in the land of Egypt.

Can you not see that the word “Jew” in the Bible is used to speak of or to refer to ALL of the chosen PEOPLE of God the SAME as the phrase the “men of Israel” is used to speak of or refer to ALL of the chosen people of God? In other words, the men of Israel are called the Jews and the men of Judaea are called the Jews and both phrases refer to the chosen people of God called the Hebrews and the children of Israel.

The Jesus Words ONLY Christians dogmatically demand that Jesus is NOT a JEW. To them, it is BLASPHEMY to call Jesus is Jew. And it is because they have READ INTO the Scriptures their OWN personal interpretation that everyone in the Bible called by the word “Jew” are NOT God’s chosen people from ANY tribe of Israel. But rather, to THEM, all of the people in the Bible called the “JEWS” in the Bible and in the world today are the Edomite people of the seed of Esau. The emphasis is mine.

The following article by Eli James is an attempt to clear up the historical confusion that has developed around the meaning of the word ‘Jew.’ The basic problem is that the word ‘Jew’ is (Supposedly WRONGLY) used to designate two culturally separate and distinct groups of people: Jews versus Judahites. (In other words, that is THEIR own personal INTERPRETATION of the word Jew) The biblical definition of ‘Judahite’ is "a member or descendant of the tribe of Judah." (And I absolutely agree that the Hebrew word that is TRANSLATED as the “English” word Jew in Nehemiah 1:1-6 and many other passages of Scripture in the Old Testament, is INDEED the SOUND BIBLICAL definition of the English word “JEW”, which means a Judahite in the Bible called the Scriptures. And according to Nehemiah and many other passages of Scriptures, the Judhites ARE a part of the children of ISRAEL. And thus, the men of Judaea ARE the SAME chosen people of God called the men of Israel. They ALL are children of Abraham of the seed of Jacob who keep the Law of Moses given ONLY to the children of Israel) Considering the repeated commandment in the Old Testament forbidding all Israelites from intermarrying with other groups, (And according to the Jesus Words ONLY Christians) it is absurd to use the same word, ‘Jew’, to designate both a.) Judahites who were forbidden to practice intermarriage and b. Jews who have always practiced intermarriage.

So then, according to the Bible ITSELF does intermarriage DISQUALIFY a NATURAL born son or daughter of Jacob to NOT be a TRUE Judahite? In other words, according to the Bible ITSELF, can a natural born Judahite INTERMARRY with someone of the seed of Ishmael and still REMAIN a TRUE Judahite?
