My short answer is both a Yes and a No. The answer is YES because there are many things that are indeed associated with the DAY, December 25th, which Christmas is celebrated on that can definitely be seen in the pagan ritual of the winter solstice. One can do a simple search on the Internet and find seemingly countless evidence of pagan ritualism associated with December 25th.

And the answer is NO because Christians celebrating Christmas have NO intent in their heart of worshiping pagan gods. Christians who celebrate Christmas are TRULY celebrating the JOY of our savior being born. Celebrating Christmas for most Christians has NOTHING to do with observing pagan rituals.

So then, seeing that the Christmas season is filled with so many of the things that the pagans used in worshiping their sun god, should Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on the 25th of December? Or should they choose another day of the year to celebrate the birth of Jesus? Or should a Christian celebrate Christmas? Or should Christians even be celebrating the birth of Jesus at all? Is there ANYWHERE in the Bible where we are commanded to celebrate the BIRTH of Jesus? I myself have not seen any instructions in the Bible to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Is it WRONG or a sin to WANT to celebrate the birth of our Lord? I myself say NO!

But on WHAT DAY should we celebrate the nativity of Jesus? And HOW should we celebrate the birth of Jesus? I mean if so be that a Christmas tree and giving gifts to your children is OFFENSIVE to YOU, then to ME the best solution would be for you to pick ANOTHER day of the year to celebrate the birth of Jesus. For ME, I myself do NOT see ANY Christians or any in the world for that matter, who celebrate Christmas having a Christmas tree and giving gifts having the MINDSET of WORSHIPING pagan gods.

To ME, NOT having JOY in a Christian’s life is what Satan desires to steal. And forbidding Christians to celebrate the birth of our Lord STEALS that JOY from many Christians. There are many so-called pagan practices such as wearing a WEDDING RING that Christians hold very dear. So if certain groups of Christians feel the need to BAN Christmas, then is it not hypocritical to NOT ban every single pagan practice such as the wearing of a WEDdING RING as well?

For you see, Almighty God himself placed the RAINBOW in the sky as a sign and promise that he would never again destroy the world by a flood. We ALL love the beauty of a spectacular rainbow. I mean, years ago, it was very popular for Christians to have an emblem of a rainbow on the bumper of their car. I myself had a sticker with an arched rainbow between two clouds with the words BORN AGAIN across the rainbow. It was a Christian symbol used by many Christians years ago. And then along came the gay pride movement who took the rainbow as their symbol and Christians stopped using the rainbow as their symbol. How sad that Christians can no longer ENJOY the rainbow because some groups of people have taken it as their symbol, which we, as Christians, understand that this group of people is living in sin. And thus, Satan has perverted the sign of the rainbow to be a symbol of SIN.

So you see dear children of God, it is NOT the rainbow that is wrong to enjoy. It is NOT the fir tree that is wrong to enjoy. It is NOT the giving of gifts that is wrong to enjoy. BUT if, like the gay pride movement, we as Christians, use the rainbow to show SUPPORT for the gays, then to ME that would be wrong. But to simply ENJOY a rainbow after a rain or a picture of a rainbow arched in the sky is NOT a sin.

So then, WHAT is your MOTIVE for having a Christmas tree? Are you worshiping a pagan god? If you are, then to ME you would be sinning. But if you are simply ENJOYING life and having a spirit of giving, then I myself do not see a problem having a Christmas tree, a palm tree, or any other kind of tree or no tree at all.

Now if so be that you celebrate the birth of Jesus and have NOTHING to do with Jesus in your celebration, then are you truly celebrating the birth of Jesus? In other words, for SOME Christians that are Christians in name only, any excuse for a celebration is all they need. They are celebrating Christmas for the PARTY and drinking. So if this is YOU, then to ME, your motive is wrong. I am not your judge, I am just presenting to my readers and seekers of the truth my thoughts and opinions about celebrating Christmas and other holidays throughout the year.

For me, personally, I can not put upon or recommend or even suggest to another something that I myself feel is wrong. Nor can I impose what I feel is NOT wrong upon someone who sincerely believes that it is wrong for THEM. What I mean by this is that through all that I have studied about Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and the general celebrating of any and all holidays, including birthdays, I myself have not come across any rock solid evidence of being AGAINST celebrating any holiday in a Christian MANNER. And by a Christain manner, I mean NOT getting drunk or using holidays as a reason to PARTY. I myself have never personally been CONVICTED by the Holy Spirit for observing or celebrating any holiday.

For me, this question of pagan holidays began with Halloween, which again can clearly be seen as associated with many pagan rituals. A dear sister in the Lord that I know personally had heard a sermon at her church and she shared with me about Halloween being a ritual to the devil. Therefore, desiring to please God, I did some research on my own and I then shared this information that I found with my wife and kids. And when they were in agreement with the evidence, then we, as a family, did away with the celebration of Halloween.

Now, BEFORE this decision to do away with celebrating Halloween, we, as a family, celebrated Halloween for many years WITHOUT every being convicted by the Holy Spirit. And this NEVER being convicted by the Holy Spirit for celebrating Holloween, still to this day, resonates in my mind as the WHY the Holy Spirit, himself, never once convicted me of celebrating Halloween. I mean, if so be, that it was a SIN to celebrate Holloween, then WHY was the NO CONVICTION form the Holy Spirit all those years?

So then, even though we gave up Halloween for several years, I must also add that when my wife died and I remarried a couple of years after her death, my new wife was very much into Halloween. By this time in my life, I had LONG come to the conclusion, even well before my first wife died, that if I personally was NOT celebrating any holiday with the deliberate intent of giving honor to a false pagan god. My belief for no celebrating Holloween CHANGED. I was free to partake or celebrate any holiday, including Halloween.

The reason I came to this conclusion was that while researching about Halloween, I also learned that Christmas and Easter were celebrated on pagan holidays or pagan rituals as well. Therefore, if I forsook Halloween based on its association with paganism, then I must also forsake the celebrating of Christmas and Easter. And even forsake the wearing of WEDDING RINGS because it was PAGAN as well. And this created much contention between me and my first wife. She LOVED Christmas and Easter. And giving up her wedding ring would have been over her dead body. You see, it was EASY to convince her to give up Halloween because she did not ENJOY Halloween all that much anyway. My point is that giving up celebrating Christians and Easter caused STRIFE which is of the Devil.

The Bible teaches us that in order to walk together then there must be AGREEMENT. Well, on this subject of eliminating Christmas and Easter along with Halloween, which we had already eliminated Halloween being in total agreement to no longer celebrate. But with eliminating Christmas and Easter there was absolutely NO agreement whatsoever. So now what, should I get a divorce because my wife refuses to give up celebrating Christmas and Easter? Should I FORCE my wife to BELIEVE as ME at that time in my life? Should I MAKE my children feel left out or out of place with their friends who still celebrated Christmas? Should I make my wife and kids hate me when I myself was NEVER truly convicted by the Holy Spirit himself, but rather was just convinced by a man-made doctrine? Should I be forced to live in strife and misery simply because of the OPINION of others?

As I searched for peace in this matter I continued to allow Christmas and Easter in our home to keep PEACE. But every year in the back of my mind I wondered, why the need for the Christmas tree and all the decorations. Why could we not, as a family, just celebrate Christmas by reading the story of the birth of our Lord and Savior and let the world celebrate this day however they choose? Why the need for Santa Clause? Eventually, Satan Clause was eliminated from our immediate family in the celebrating of Christmas as was the Easter bunny on Easter also eliminated as the kids grew older. However, we still gave gifts on Christmas and there was still candy on Easter, but our kids were made to know that the way the world celebrates these holidays took away from the TRUE meaning that we, as a family, truly want these holidays to mean to us.

So then, as a family, we continued to celebrate Christmas and Easter, and as I said earlier, when I remarried, then the celebrating of Halloween came back into my immediate family, which is just my wife and I. My children are now grown and are starting their own families. Now, as for my children, they both hold fast to what I taught them about Halloween and they do not fully understand why I NOW allow it to be celebrated in my home when I was so against it before when they were teenagers.

In short, for me, it comes to this. I pattern or decide what is right and what is wrong for MY own life, NOT my wife's life, NOT my kid's life, and NOT YOUR life, but rather after what the Holy Spirit is leading ME, NOT my wife, NOT my kids, and NOT YOU, as what to both DO and what NOT to DO. Please read Romans 8:1-14 which teaches us as INDIVIDUALS to walk after the SPIRIT of Almighty God.

Romans 8:1-14.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, WHO walk NOT after the flesh, BUT (WHO walk) after the Spirit.

2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made ME free from the law of sin and death. (And I find no law, no commandment, no instruction, and no teaching IN the Bible itself under the NEW Covent written in the New Testament to NOT celebrate the birth and resurrection of Jesus. Nor do I find any teaching of Jesus forbidding the celebration of birthdays or any other holiday. And again, the Holy Spirit has NEVER even one time convicted me for celebrating ANY Holiday including Holloween)

3. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4. That the RIGHTEOUSNESS of the law might be FULFILLED in us, WHO walk NOT after the flesh, BUT after the Spirit.

5. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9. But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.

12. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13. For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you THROUGH the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.

14. For as many as are LED by the Spirit of God, THEY are the sons of God.”

So then, basically, it comes down to what the Holy Spirit is LEADING YOU to DO. As I said before, as for ME, I have never been CONVICTED by the Holy Spirit for celebrating ANY holiday. I did PONDER and WONDER WHY that we, as Christians, have a Christmas tree and WHY we, as Christians, celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25th when I learned that Jesus could NOT have possibly been born on December 25th or even in the month of December. Please read the study “WAS JESUS BORN ON DECEMBER 25th?” for a deeper understanding from the Bible as to when Jesus was born. But I was never really convicted by the Holy Spirit that I was committing SIN for celebrating Christmas on December 25th with a fully decorated Christmas tree and the exchanging of gifts even while knowing that so many things were connected with the pagan ritual of the winter solstice. For you see, in my HEART I had NO INTENT that this celebration of Christmas had anything to do with a pagan ritual for ME and my family.

The same was true for Easter. Now I will say that I did not like to see a Christmas tree in the church nor did I like to see the Easter bunny and hunting Easter eggs in the church building at the FIRST when I was first started learning of these Christian celebrations having many things connected with pagan ritual celebrations. Easter was less troubling because I knew that the actual time of the year that the church celebrated Easter was very close to the actual time of the Passover. I knew that the Bible teaches us that Jesus was resurrected on Sunday. So, I understood why the church wanted to celebrate the RESURRECTION of Jesus on a Sunday as opposed to, the day AFTER the THIRD day AFTER the Passover that is observed by the Jews, which would NOT ALWAYS be on a SUNDAY.

But now that I think about it more, the question arises, as WHY do we as Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus as an ANNUAL celebration at all, seeing that many Christians are actually celebrating the resurrection of Jesus EVERY Sunday or EVERY time they take communion. Some Christians, who take communion DAILY, are actually celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus EVERY DAY of the year. So why the need to have an annual celebrating of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Please understand that these are simply questions that I ONCE had but NO LONGER have.

Also, I used to wonder that IF SO BE that an ANNUAL celebration is indeed desired, then should it be celebrated BEGINNING ON the actual Passover day according to the JEWISH calendar, and then CONTINUING to celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and savior all the way through the full three days and the full three nights that Jesus was in the heart of the earth first, and then continue to celebrate this ANNUAL Easter until SUNRISE, on whatever DAY, it happens to land on year from year. And also, should the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus even be called EASTER at all. You can see HOW LEGALISTIC or thoughts can become.

Perhaps, we all have questions and concerns, but in reality, are we going to CHANGE the way the mainstream church has chosen to celebrate Christmas and Easter? Is leaving the church an answer? Is causing strife and division and answer? Is starting a new denomination an answer? Is remaining right where you are and try sharing your questions and concerns an answer? These are all possible answers, but WHICH answer should YOU choose? That answer is between YOU and God, as the Holy Spirit leads YOU into all truth.

As for ME, here is what I myself have concluded. So long as MY HEART is right before God and there is NO INTENT of ME worshiping idols of false gods, then MY conscious is CLEAR and GUILTLESS before God. The Holy Spirit showed ME that all those LEGALISTIC thoughts and concerns were of the Devil. And that st ME free to celebrate ANY holiday in the Spirit of LOVE. Holidays now bring me JOY and the LOVE for others that I never had before when Christmas was a DUTY to be performed as an OBLIGATION. The INTENT of the HEART is the KEY to having PEACE.

We read in 1 Corinthians 8:1-13,

“Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies.

2. And if any man think that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

3. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

4. As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, WE know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

5. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

6. But to US there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

7. Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

8. But meat commends us NOT to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. (Paul is teaching us that WE as Christians are free to eat meat that we KNOW has been offered to IDOLS. So in the same way, if our HEART is TOWARD Almighty God and his Son Jesus then, to ME we are FREE to CELEBRATE ANY holiday, so long as our LIBERTY does NOT cause a weaker brother to stumble. So then, if YOUR faith that you have concluded to BELIEVE does NOT allow you to celebrate Christmas or Easter, then YOU must follow where your HEART is leading you. But at the same time do NOT try and force or compel your faith upon others. NOT even your own family. By compelling others to believe as you believe show that you do NOT trust the Holy Spirit to lead others, including your family, in the way that God himself desires. If it is NOT plainly stated as a fact in the Bible with no interpretation needed then it should never be taught as church doctrine in a dogmatic way.)

9. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.

10. For if any man see you which has knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11. And through your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? (In other words, if YOUR heart KNOWS that it is NOT a SIN to celebrate ANY holiday, then you should do your best to TEACH those around you to KNOW what YOU know to be the will of God. For you see, if THEY truly believe with all their heart that it is a sin to celebrate holidays that have any connection whatsoever with a pagan ritual and they go ahead and celebrate those holidays because they see YOU celebrating those holidays, then we cause those WEAK in faith to stumble. For you see, THEY may be a former PAGAN that used to worship false idols and THINK that it is alright to go BACK to worshiping false idols. Being WEAK in faith means that they do NOT UNDERSTAND correctly as to what the Bible ITSELF teaches under the New Covenant written in the New Testament)

12. But when you sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

13. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, (Or cause my brother to SIN or commit and offense against God) I will eat no flesh while the world stands, lest I make my brother to offend.”

Now, I know that I MYSELF believe in the ONE TRUE God, Almighty God the Father and that I MYSELF do NOT have any thought or intention of celebrating Christmas or Easter as unto a pagan deity. I MYSELF do NOT associate the “worldly” Christmas decorations with anything that has to do with celebrating the JOY of knowing that Almighty God, my Father in heaven, sent his word to be BORN of a woman to become the savior of the world from the bondage of sin. But if MY celebrating Christmas or Easter would happen to offend a WEAK brother or sister in the Lord that DOES have the intent of worshiping a false pagan god, then for the sake of those brothers and sisters in the Lord that are WEAK in their faith, I will NOT celebrate Christmas or Easter in their presence that MY liberty cause them to worship false gods.

But on the other hand, I will NOT be brought under the LORDING over me by another brother or sister in the Lord trying to place upon me a LAW of their OWN mind that the Holy Spirit HIMSELF is NOT placing upon me. This is WHY I teach my readers and seekers of the truth that they must walk AFTER the LEADING of the Holy Spirit, as the Holy Spirit leads THEM, and for them not to fall into the condemnation of others trying to place upon them something that they PERSONALLY are be LED to DO or LED NOT to DO by the Holy Spirit.

For you see, there are many church doctrines or RULES that are imposed upon Christians that are NOT found in the Bible itself. And Christians FEEL conviction from those rules of men NOT knowing that that conviction is NOT from God. You see, when I was in the Catholic Chruch I was wrongly taught that missing church on Sunday was a mortal sin that would send me straight to hell. And after I left the Catholic Church I was CONVICTED when I missed church on a Sunday because of the WRONG TEACHING and NOT because it is a sin. There are many RULES in some church denominations that bring CONVICTION when NONE of those rules can be found in the Bile itself. So be sure that the conviction is from God and NOT from man-made doctrines.

And as for those who want only to STRAIGHTEN OUT or CORRECT their brothers and sister in the Lord, I am quite sure there is yet something that the Holy Spirit is STILL working on in THEIR life that they have NOT YET YIELDED to follow and OBEY COMPLETELY. What does the bible say, make sure you have the BEAM in your eye removed before you try to remove and little bitty tiny speck out of another brother's or sister's eye?

One last point that I would like to make is that many Christians are driven away from the faith, because TOO MUCH, or TOO MANY things are being placed upon them, at one time, by well-meaning brothers and sisters in the Lord. Let's be honest with one another and consider the OVERWHELMING reality of trying to do EVERYTHING at the SAME time. Think about what I am saying here. What if someone was coming to visit you in your home that was important to you and you had a multitude of things that needed to get done before you were ready for that person to come into your home. Could you cut the grass, do the dishes, make the beds, sweep the porch and do all the many other tasks that you felt needed to be done ALL at ONCE. No, absolutely NOT! You would need TIME and you would DO what YOU felt LED to do FIRST, then and when you got to the rest of the things that you want to get done, then you would do them as well if time permitted. You would not be controlled by what your neighbor thought you should do FIRST or not do at all. So how are spiritual things any different?

The TRUTH of the matter is that each and every one of us must work out our OWN salvation with fear and trembling before Almighty God and NOT before MAN. We are NOT to be a MAN pleaser. We are NOT to COMPARE our walk with the Lord as being BETTER or more perfect that our brothers and sisters.  And at the same time, we should not be WORRIED or FEARFUL if our own walk with God is as good as our fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord. It should ENCOURAGE us to press on to make our walk better, but we should not come under condemnation if our spiritual growth is not to the level of others. It will get there as you follow the leading of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide YOU into all truth. Also, do not allow yourself to be brought under condemnation by the teachings of man unless of course, the Holy Spirit is already leading you in this area.

There is a movement in the church today that some call the Hebrew Roots Movement. Those caught up in this movement place so MUCH FOCUS on the OLD Testament and the LAW of Moses that they are BLINDED to the TRUTH of the NEW Testament. I myself see the FEAR in them of NOT pleasing the Lord unless they KEEP the WHOLE LAW to the letter. These teachings of MAN place Christians in BONDAGE of FEAR. I see this FEAR among the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Seventh Day Adventist, the Mormons, those in the Hebrew Roots Movement, the Roman Catholics, and in those who WRONGLY have been taught to stop celebrating all holidays that have any connection with some pagan ritual.

Yes, it is true that the preaching and teaching of the whole word of God will bring conviction to us on things that we may have not thought about, but let the Holy Spirit lead you to as when HE wants you to work on that area of your life. This is the only way that I have found PEACE in my own life that is FREE from CONDEMNATION because I MYSELF KNOW that I am following what the Holy Spirit is teaching ME. In the book of Acts, I believe the 15th chapter, we see that the Apostles had a debate as to what to do concerning placing things on new believers, so they decided to write and tell these new believers that it would be well for them to abstain from meats offered to idols, and to avoid fornication and then placed nothing more upon these new believers. I think there is WISDOM here to NOT place too many burdens at one time upon believers and let the Holy Spirit lead and guide them into all truth. Hold forth the word of TRUTH and let the Almighty God give the INCREASE. A true believer KNOWS when he or she is sinning or is about to sin. The Holy Spirit is working in them as he is in us. We must TRUST the Holy Spirit to lead and guide not only us but our fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord. In the same way that a parent cannot ALWAYS be with their children, so is it that a Pastor cannot always be with their flock.

Philippians 2:12-16

“Wherefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your OWN salvation with fear and trembling.

13. For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14. Do all things without murmurings and disputing:

15. That you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world;

16. Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain.”

When I began to wonder if I should do more in the area of teaching my flock over the Internet about whether of not THEY should observe Christmas, Easter, and Halloween, I thought about the RAINBOW that Almighty God placed in the sky as a sign to us that he would not destroy the world ever again by a flood. And then I thought of how the homosexual community has taken this sign of the rainbow as their OWN SYMBOL. So does this mean that I MYSELF can no longer ENJOY the beauty of a RAINBOW, whether in the sky or in a painting just because MAN has associated it with something that is NOT of God?

I am resolved to believe that it is what is in our HEART that God sees far more than what MAN tries to make something to be. So, if YOU, yourself, KNOW in your HEART that something is a SIN, then for YOU it is SIN. Work out your OWN salvation with fear and trembling. This does NOT mean that you should FEAR EVERY thing that you do, but rather that your salvation is a SERIOUS thing. And, therefore, you should NOT take things lightly that YOU truly feel that the Holy Spirit is prompting YOU to do or not to do.

As for ME and MY house, WE are going to ENJOY all the holidays of the year without FEAR of sinning. For you see, we, as Christians, are FREE to even eat meat that we KNOW has been offered to idols of FALSE gods, which we KNOW WAS a sin under the OLD covenant but NOW under the NEW Covenant is NO LONGER a sin. So then, how is having a Christmas tree or taking your kids to see someone dressed up as Santa Clause, or hunting Easter eggs, or giving out candy on Halloween a SIN when the Holy Spirit HIMSELF does NOT convict you of sin?

May you find PEACE and JOY in life and be FREE from FEAR and the BONDAGE of the LAW. I pray that you do NOT drive your children away from God as so many Jehovah's Witnesses have done. Have you ever considered the suicide rate among Jehovah's Witnesses for DENYING their children the JOY of celebrating holidays? FORCED RELIGION never works. If the LAW could save us, then WHY did God himself make a NEW COVENANT to save mankind?

Thanks for reading and may God bless you richly as you continue to read ALL the studies that I gave links to throughout this study concerning this subject on Sabbath TRUTH. I will post them again below along with all the studies that I have on this subject. Also, below are some quotes from early church writers that prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that the early church did not keep the seventh day of the week as the Jews.

Your brother in our Lord Jesus Christ,

Brother Mark.

Some Christians CLAIM that the early church kept the Sabbath as the Jews, but I assure you that the early first-century church was accustomed to gathering together BEFORE the light of daybreak on the FIRST day of the week that THEY called the Lord's day.

Please read all the studies linked within this study and all the studies linked below. This study was just the TIP of the iceberg of exposing the ERRORS of interpretation made by the Saturday seventh day of the week Sabbath-keeping churches, and the Sunday first day of the week Sabbath-keeping Christians. All of the studies listed below can be sent to a brother or sister caught up in the Hebrew Roots Movement or a Sabbath-keeping church by sending them this one link “>>>WHAT IS THE TRUE SABBATH?<<<”

Or you can pick and choose any of the links below to send to them or read for yourself. Be sure to read the HISTORICAL evidence if you have not already done so. I post the SAME historical evidence at the end of almost every study on this subject of the Sabbath day. But if you want to read it again you may see something that did not stand out before.

“HAS GOD'S LAW BEEN ABOLISHED? (Matthew 5:17-19)”

Again, some Christians make the CLAIM that the early church kept the Sabbath as the Jews, but I assure you that the early first-century church was accustomed to gathering together BEFORE the light of daybreak on the FIRST day of the week that THEY called the Lord's Day.

Here is a NON BIAS historical account found in a letter from Pliny the Younger to Trojan concerning the Christians.

Pliny was a Roman who persecuted and killed Christians, so again this is a historical NON BIAS account of WHEN Christians gathered together.

Here is what Pliny says in his letter to Trojan. The EMPHASIS and comments in parenthesis are my own:

“That they were WONT (Or as they were ACCUSTOMED and USED to do, or in the HABIT of doing)on a STATED day (Or on a CERTAIN preset day)to meet together BEFORE IT WAS LIGHT, and to sing a hymn to Christ, as to a god, alternately; and to oblige themselves by a sacrament [or oath], not to do anything that was ill: but that they would commit no theft, or pilfering, or adultery; that they would not break their promises, or deny what was deposited with them, when it was required back again; after which it was their CUSTOM to depart, AND to meet AGAIN at a common but innocent meal,(So after they had worship service early morning beginning before day light, they would depart and they come back together later that same day to share a common simple meal together and most likely break bread together as other early church writers give more detail) which they had left off upon that edict which I published at your command, and wherein I had forbidden any such conventicles (Or religious meetings).”

Below are some quotes of early church writers that clearly teach us that the early church did NOT keep the Sabbath day, as in, on SATURDAY, the 7th day of the week, but rather the early church throughout history from it's beginning worshiped God on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week, which is sometimes referred to as the EIGHTH day of the week or the day AFTER the Sabbath day, or the LORD'S DAY. (The emphasis is mine in these quotes given below):

The year AD or date is given first and then the source is given at the end followed by the quote from that historical source. The Apostle John was still alive until 100 AD.

#1. 90 AD DIDACHE:

"Christian Assembly on the Lord's Day:

1. But every Lord's day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure.

2. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned.

3. For this is that which was spoken by the Lord: In every place and time offer to me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great King, saith the Lord, and my name is wonderful among the nations." (Didache: The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles, Chapter XIV)

#2. 100 AD BARNABAS:

"We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD 15:6-8).

#3. 100 AD BARNABAS:

Moreover, God says to the Jews, 'Your new moons and Sabbaths I cannot endure.' You see how he says, 'The present Sabbaths are not acceptable to me, but the Sabbath which I have made in which, when I have rested [heaven: Heb 4] from all things, I will make the beginning of the eighth day which is the beginning of another world.' Wherefore we Christians keep the eighth day for joy, on which also Jesus arose from the dead and when he appeared ascended into heaven. (15:8f, The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, pg. 147)

#4. 110 AD Pliny:

They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath not to (do) any wicked deeds, never to commit any fraud, theft, or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of good food—but food of an ordinary and innocent kind. (About three years after the death of Ignatius in 250, an important official communication was sent from one Pliny to Trojan the Roman emperor. Pliny, the Roman governor of Bithynia, wrote of the Christians who had been congregating there probably from at least A.D. 62 onwards. In this remark, it is explicitly stated that these early Christians observed the substance of most of the Ten Commandments, and it is implied that they observed all ten as far as they were able to do so. As far as they were able, for as most of the early Christians were of slave stock or from other lower classes'-, and those who had heathen masters or employers—the vast majority—would be forced to work on THEIR day of rest, which was unfortunately an official working day throughout the empires' until Constantine's "Sabbath" Edict in 321 A.D. gave them some measure of public protection. Hence one reads that after meeting "on a certain FIXED day before it was light", the first century Bithynian Christians had "to separate"—many of them having to labor for their masters and/or employers from dawn to dusk—"and then reassemble to partake of . . . food". The "certain fixed day" [stato die"'] on which the Christians met, is regarded by Seventh-day Adventists as Saturday'-. Certainly, the expression would seem to indicate a regular day of meeting, probably each week. But Sunday is FAR more likely to have been the "certain fixed day" than Saturday. For if Pliny had been referring to the old Saturday Sabbath, as a Roman he would doubtless have referred to the "later" meeting first and only then to the morning meeting on the day after the "certain fixed day", seeing that the old Saturday Sabbath was demarcated from the evening of one day to the evening of the following day. But Pliny makes no such reference. Instead, he mentions that the pre-dawn meeting took place first—and only afterward, the later meeting; and that both meetings took place on the SAME "certain fixed day". This rather points to the Roman (and—more importantly!—New Testament) midnight to midnight demarcation of modern Sunday-keepers than to the evening to evening demarcation of the Jews and the Seventh-day Adventists.) (The Covenantal Sabbath, Francis Nigel Lee, Pg 242)

Also, I myself will further add to the comment of the writer above that mere common sense plainly teaches us that Pliny was clearly speaking of SUNDAY because the LAW that Constantine passed was not to mandate work on SUNDAY, so that these Christians could worship God on SUNDAY. So the CLAIM by the Seventh Day Advent church that the fixed day of worship for Christians was a Saturday is FALSE. Otherwise, Constantine would have made it a law that employers allow Christians off for work on a Saturday rather than on a Sunday.

This PROVES beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Christians were ALREADY worshiping God on SUNDAY, the FIRST DAY of the week from the very beginning of the church on the day of Pentecost. The truth of the matter is that Constantine only made it easier for Christians to worship God on Sunday without being persecuted by their employers or owners by passing the EDICT making it a LAW to force heathen employers to let their employees have at least some time off from work so that they could worship God on SUNDAY.

Every Sabbath keeper will AGREE that Constantine's “SABBATH” is referring to SUNDAY as the day of the week and NOT as Saturday being the REST for Christians. Again, all that Constantine did was to pass a law making it EASIER for Christians to worship on the DAY that they had ALREADY been worshiping on since the very beginning, at the DAY of PENTECOST, which is on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week that Christian called the LORD'S day, the day our Lord rose from the grave.

Open your EYES dear child of God and read what these early church writings are teaching us about the EARLIEST believers as to which day the early church worshiped God. SUNDAY has ALWAYS been the Sabbath or the day of REST of the early church and the church throughout its entire history.

-I [Christ] have come into being on the eighth day which is the day of the Lord. (18)

#6. 150 AD JUSTIN.

"He then speaks of those Gentiles, namely us, who in every place offer sacrifices to Him, i.e., the bread of the Eucharist, and also the cup of the Eucharist, affirming both that we glorify His name, and that you profane [it]. The command of circumcision, again, bidding [them] always circumcise the children on the eighth day, was a type of the true circumcision, by which we are circumcised from deceit and iniquity through Him who rose from the dead on the first day AFTER the Sabbath, [namely through] our Lord Jesus Christ. For the first day after the Sabbath, remaining the first of all the days, is called, however, the eighth, according to the number of all the days of the cycle, and [yet] remains the first." (Justin, Dialogue 41:4)

#7. 150 AD JUSTIN:

...those who have persecuted and do persecute Christ, if they do not repent, shall not inherit anything on the holy mountain. But the Gentiles, who have believed on Him, and have repented of the sins which they have committed, they shall receive the inheritance along with the patriarchs and the prophets, and the just men who are descended from Jacob, even although they neither keep the Sabbath, nor are circumcised, nor observe the feasts. Assuredly they shall receive the holy inheritance of God. (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, page 207)

#8. 150 AD JUSTIN:

But if we do not admit this, we shall be liable to fall into foolish opinion, as if it were not the same God who existed in the times of Enoch and all the rest, who neither were circumcised after the flesh, nor observed Sabbaths, nor any other rites, seeing that Moses enjoined such observances... For if there was no need of circumcision before Abraham, or of the observance of Sabbaths, of feasts and sacrifices, before Moses; no more need is there of them now, after that, according to the will of God, Jesus Christ the Son of God has been born without sin, of a virgin sprung from the stock of Abraham. (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, page 206)

#9. 150 AD JUSTIN:

Moreover, all those righteous men already mentioned [after mentioning Adam. Abel, Enoch, Lot, Noah, Melchizedek, and Abraham], though they kept no Sabbaths, were pleasing to God; and after them Abraham with all his descendants until Moses... And you [fleshly Jews] were commanded to keep Sabbaths, that you might retain the memorial of God. For His word makes this announcement, saying, "That you may know that I am God who redeemed you." (Dialogue With Trypho the Jew, 150-165 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers, vol. 1, page 204)

#10. 150 AD JUSTIN.

There is no other thing for which you blame us, my friends, is there than this? That we do not live according to the Law, nor, are we circumcised in the flesh as your forefathers, nor do we observe the Sabbath as you do. (Dialogue with Trypho 10:1. In verse 3 the Jew Trypho acknowledges that Christians 'do not keep the Sabbath.')

#11. 155 AD Justin Martyr:

"[W]e too would observe the fleshly circumcision, and the Sabbaths, and in short all the feasts, if we did not know for what REASON they were enjoined [on] you--namely, on account of your transgressions and the hardness of your heart. . . . [H]ow is it, Trypho, that we would not observe those rites which do not harm us--I speak of fleshly circumcision AND Sabbaths AND feasts? . . . God enjoined you [Jews] to keep the Sabbath and impose on you other precepts for a sign, as I have already said, on account of your unrighteousness and that of your fathers" (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew 18, 21).

#12. 180 AD ACTS OF PETER:

Paul had often contended with the Jewish teachers and had confuted them (Or refuted them completely), saying 'it is Christ on whom your fathers laid hands. He abolished their Sabbath and fasts and festivals and circumcision.' (1: I)-2

Early in the morning when (the Sabbath dawned, a multitude from Jerusalem and the surrounding country came to see the scaled sepulcher. In the night in which the Lord's day dawned, while the soldiers in pairs for each watch were keeping guard, a great voice came from heaven. [There follows an account of the resurrection. Early in the morning of the Lord's day Mary Magdalene, a disciple of the Lord .... came to the sepulcher. (9:34f.; 12:50f.)

(in commenting on each of the Ten Commandments and their Christian meaning:) The seventh day is proclaimed a day of rest, PREPARING by abstention from evil FOR the Primal day, our TRUE rest. (Ibid. VII. xvi. 138.1)

I will add that the meaning of the word “Primal” means an “ARCHETYPAL” which means an original TYPE pointing to the TRUE. So this early church writer is saying what Paul teaches us in scripture that the things in the OLD Testament are TYPES and SHADOWS or the TRUE which was to come. Jesus became our SABBATH, and we have entered into our REST being in Jesus Christ. The SABBATH was an ARCHETYPAL pointing toward our TRUE REST which was to come being FULFILLED in the ATONEMENT of Jesus.

He does the commandment according to the Gospel and keeps the Lord's day, whenever he puts away an evil mind . . . glorifying the Lord's resurrection in himself. (Ibid. Vii.xii.76.4)

Plato prophetically speaks of the Lord's day in the tenth book of the Republic, in these words: 'And when seven days have passed to each of them in the meadow, on the eighth they must go on." (Miscellanies V.xiv.106.2)

Wherever we are, we are all called after the one name of Christ Christians. On one day, the first of the week, we assemble ourselves together (On Fate)

"We solemnize the day AFTER Saturday in contradistinction to those who call this day their Sabbath" (Tertullian's Apology, Ch 16)

In other words, Tertullian is saying that we Christians DISTINGUISH us from the JEWS who hold Saturday as THEIR Sabbath by solemnizing or referencing the day AFTER Saturday as our day of worship and rest.

It follows, accordingly, that, in so far as the abolition of carnal circumcision and of the old law is demonstrated as having been consummated at its specific times, so also the observance of the Sabbath is demonstrated to have been temporary. (An Answer to the Jews 4:1, Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 3, page 155)

Let him who contends that the Sabbath is still to be observed a balm of salvation, and circumcision on the eighth day because of the threat of death, teach us that in earliest times righteous men kept Sabbath or practiced circumcision, and so were made friends of God. .. ...Therefore, since God originated Adam uncircumcised, and inobservant of the Sabbath, consequently his offspring also, Abel, offering Him sacrifices, uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, was by Him commended... Noah also, uncircumcised - yes, and inobservant of the Sabbath - God freed from the deluge. For Enoch, too, most righteous man, uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, He translated from this world... Melchizedek also, "the priest of most high God," uncircumcised and inobservant of the Sabbath, was chosen to the priesthood of God. (An Answer to the Jews 2:10; 4:1, Ante-Nicene Fathers Vol. 3, page 153)

Others . . . suppose that the sun is the god of the Christians because it is well-known that we regard Sunday as a day of joy. (To the Nations 1: 133)

Keep in mind that this was well BEFORE Constantine SUPPOSEDLY CHANGED the day of rest and worship to Sunday as the Seventh Day Adventist church CLAIMS. But in TRUTH, Christians had ALREADY been worshiping God on Sunday, the FIRST day of the week that they also called the Lord’s Day, the day that our Lord and Savior Jesus rose from the dead.

So, as early as Tertullian in 200 AD there were groups of JEWS and Christian JEWS who ASSUMED or who SUPPOSED, or who FALSELY ACCUSED Christians of worshiping God on SUNDAY that they were worshiping a sun god and not the true God.

To us Sabbaths are foreign. (On Idolatry, 14:6)4

#23. 220 AD ORIGEN:

"On Sunday none of the actions of the world should be done. If then, you abstain from all the works of this world and keep yourselves free for spiritual things, go to church, listen to the readings and divine homilies, meditate on heavenly things. (Homil. 23 in Numeros 4, PG 12:749)

#24. 220 AD Origen:

"Hence it is not possible that the [day of] rest after the Sabbath should have come into existence from the seventh [day] of our God. On the contrary, it is our Savior who, after the pattern of his own rest, caused us to be made in the likeness of his death, and hence also of his resurrection" (Commentary on John 2:28).

#25. 225 AD The Didascalia:

"The apostles further appointedOn the first day of the week let there be service, and the reading of the Holy Scriptures, and the oblation, because on the first day of the week our Lord rose from the place of the dead, and on the first day of the week he arose upon the world, and on the first day of the week he ascended up to heaven, and on the first day of the week he will appear at last with the angels of heaven" (Didascalia 2).

And I add further that the church BEGAN on the day of Pentecost, on a SUNDAY, the FIRST day of the week. The early church evidence and the word of TRUTH, the Holy Bible, make it quite clear that the early church worshiped God on SUNDAY the FIRST day of the week, called the LORD'S day and that they did NOT KEEP the Sabbath day as the JEWS.

#26. 250 AD CYPRIAN:

The eight day, that is, the first day after the Sabbath, and the Lord's Day." (Epistle 58, Sec 4)

#27. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

"If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death-whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master-how shall we be able to live apart from Him, whose disciples the prophets themselves in the Spirit did wait for Him as their Teacher? And therefore He whom they rightly waited for, being come, raised them from the dead. If, then, those who were conversant with the ancient Scriptures came to newness of hope, expecting the coming of Christ, as the Lord teaches us when He says, "If ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me; " and again, "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad; for before Abraham was, I am; " how shall we be able to live without Him? The prophets were His servants, and foresaw Him by the Spirit, and waited for Him as their Teacher, and expected Him as their Lord and Saviour, saying, "He will come and save us." Let us therefore NO longer keep the Sabbath after the Jewish manner, and rejoice in days of idleness; for "he that does not work, let him not eat." For say the [holy] oracles, "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat thy bread." But let every one of you keep the Sabbath after a spiritual manner, rejoicing in meditation on the law, NOT in relaxation of the body, admiring the workmanship of God, and not eating things prepared the day before, nor using lukewarm drinks, and walking within a prescribed space, nor finding delight in dancing and plaudits which have no sense in them. And after the observance of the Sabbath, let every friend of Christ keep the Lord's Day as a festival, the resurrection-day, the queen and chief of all the days [of the week]. Looking forward to this, the prophet declared, "To the end, for the eighth day," on which our life both sprang up again, and the victory over death was obtained in Christ, whom the children of perdition, the enemies of the Saviour, deny, "whose god is their belly, who mind earthly things," who are "lovers of pleasure, and not lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof." These make merchandise of Christ, corrupting His word, and giving up Jesus to sale: they are corrupters of women, and covetous of other men's possessions, swallowing up wealth insatiably; from whom may ye be delivered by the mercy of God through our Lord Jesus Christ! (Epistle of Ignatius to the Magnesians, Chapter IX)

#28. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

"On the day of the preparation, then, at the third hour, He received the sentence from Pilate, the Father permitting that to happen; at the sixth hour He was crucified; at the ninth hour He gave up the ghost; and before sunset He was buried. During the Sabbath He continued under the earth in the tomb in which Joseph of Arimathaea had laid Him. At the dawning of the Lord's day He arose from the dead, according to what was spoken by Himself, "As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man also be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. "The day of the preparation, then, comprises the passion; the Sabbath embraces the burial; the Lord's Day contains the resurrection." (The Epistle of Ignatius to the Trallians, chapter 9)

#29. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

If anyone fasts on the Lord's Day or on the Sabbath, except on the paschal Sabbath only, he is a murderer of Christ. (The Epistle of Ignatius to the Philippians, chapter 8)

#30. 250 AD IGNATIUS:

"This [custom], of not bending the knee upon Sunday, is a symbol of the resurrection, through which we have been set free, by the grace of Christ, from sins, and from death, which has been put to death under Him. Now this custom took its rise from apostolic times, as the blessed Irenaeus, the martyr and bishop of Lyons, declares in his treatise On Easter, in which he makes mention of Pentecost also; upon which [feast] we do not bend the knee, because it is of equal significance with the Lord's day, for the reason already alleged concerning it." (Ignatius, Fragments)

#31. 300 AD Victorinus:

"The sixth day [Friday] is called parasceve, that is to say, the preparation of the kingdom. . . . On this day also, on account of the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ, we make either a station to God or a fast. On the seventh day, he rested from all his works, and blessed it, and sanctified it. On the former day, we are accustomed to fast rigorously, that on the Lord's day we may go forth to our bread with giving of thanks. And let the parasceve become a rigorous fast, lest we should APPEAR to observe ANY Sabbath with the Jews . . . which Sabbath he [Christ] in his body ABOLISHED" (The Creation of the World).

#32. 300 AD EUSEBIUS:

"They did not, therefore, regard circumcision, NOR observe the Sabbath NEITHER do we; ... because such things as these do NOT belong to Christians" (Ecc. Hist., Book 1, Ch. 4)

#33. 300 AD EUSEBIUS:

[The Ebionites] were accustomed to observe the Sabbath and other Jewish customs but on the Lord's days to celebrate the same practices as we in remembrance of the resurrection of the Savior. (Church History Ill.xxvii.5)

I will also add that the Ebionites were Christians who were seduced by the Jews to keep the Jewish customs. In other words, the Ebionites were Judaized Christians. The Ebionites also taught the need to be circumcised in the flesh in order to be saved. Some today would not even consider Ebionites as being true Christians since they went back to trusting the Law of Moses to be saved.

#34. 300 AD Eusebius of Caesarea:

"They [the pre- Mosaic saints of the Old Testament] did not care about circumcision of the body, neither do we [Christians]. They did not care about observing Sabbaths, nor do we. They did not avoid certain kinds of food, neither did they regard the other distinctions which Moses first delivered to their posterity to be observed as symbolsnor do Christians of the present day do such things" (Church History 1:4:8).

#35. 300 AD Eusebius of Caesarea:

"The day of his [Christ's] light . . . was the day of his resurrection from the dead, which they say, as being the one and only truly holy day and the Lord's day, is better than any number of days as we ordinarily understand them, and better than the days set apart by the Mosaic Law for feasts, new moons, and Sabbaths, which the Apostle [Paul] teaches are the shadow of days and not days in reality" (Proof of the Gospel 4:16:186).

#36. 345 AD Athanasius:

"The Sabbath was the end of the first creation, the Lord's day was the beginning of the second, in which he renewed and restored the old in the same way as he prescribed that they should formerly observe the Sabbath as a memorial of the end of the first things, so we honor the Lord's day as being the memorial of the new creation" (On Sabbath and Circumcision 3).

Be not careless of yourselves, neither deprive your Saviour of His own members, neither divide His body nor disperse His members, neither prefer the occasions of this life to the word of God; but assemble yourselves together every day, morning and evening, singing psalms and praying in the Lord's house: in the morning saying the sixty-second Psalm, and in the evening the hundred and fortieth, but principally on the Sabbath-day. And on the day of our Lord's resurrection, which is the Lord's day, meet more diligently, sending praise to God that made the universe by Jesus, and sent Him to us, and condescended to let Him suffer, and raised Him from the dead. Otherwise what apology will he make to God who does not assemble on that day to hear the saving word concerning the resurrection, on which we pray thrice standing in memory of Him who arose in three days, in which is performed the reading of the prophets, the preaching of the Gospel, the oblation of the sacrifice, the gift of the holy food? (Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, book 2)

"How We Ought to Assemble Together and to Celebrate the Festival Day of Our Saviour's Resurrection. On the day of the resurrection of the Lord, that is, the Lord's day, assemble yourselves together, without fail, giving thanks to God, and praising Him for those mercies God has bestowed upon you through Christ and has delivered you from ignorance, error, and bondage, that your sacrifice may be unspotted, and acceptable to God,..." (Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, book 7)

#39. 350 AD Cyril of Jerusalem:

"Fall NOT AWAY either into the sect of the Samaritans or into Judaism, for Jesus Christ has henceforth ransomed you. Stand aloof from ALL observance of Sabbaths and from calling any indifferent meats common or unclean" (Catechetical Lectures 4:37).

#40. 360 AD Council of Laodicea:

"Christians should NOT Judaize and should NOT be idle on the Sabbath, but should work on that day; they should, however, particularly reverence the Lord's day and, if possible, not work on it, because they were Christians" (canon 29).

#41. 387 AD John Chrysostom:

"You have put on Christ, you have become a member of the Lord and been enrolled in the heavenly city, and you still grovel in the Law [of Moses]? How is it possible for you to obtain the kingdom? Listen to Paul's words, that the observance of the Law overthrows the gospel, and learn, if you will, how this comes to pass, and tremble, and shun this pitfallWhy do you keep the Sabbath and fast with the Jews?" (Homilies on Galatians 2:17).

#42. 412 AD Augustine:

"Well, now, I should like to be told what there is in these Ten Commandments, except the observance of the Sabbath, which ought NOT to be kept by a Christian . . . Which of these commandments would anyone say that the Christian ought not to keep? It is possible to contend that it is not the Law which was written on those two tables that the apostle [Paul] describes as 'the letter that kills' [2 Cor. 3:6], but the law of circumcision and the other sacred rites which are now abolished" (The Spirit and the Letter 24).

#43. 597 AD Gregory I:

"But after that, the grace of Almighty God, our Lord Jesus Christ, has appeared, the commandments of the Law which were spoken figuratively cannot be kept according to the letter. For if anyone says that this about the Sabbath is to be kept, he must need to say that carnal sacrifices are to be offered. He must say too that the commandment about the circumcision of the body is still to be retained. But let him hear the apostle Paul saying in opposition to him: 'If you be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing' (Gal. 5:2)" (Letters 13:1).

Thanks for reading and may God bless you richly as you continue to read ALL the studies I gave links to at the beginning of this study concerning this subject on Sabbath TRUTH. I will post them again below. Also below are some quotes from early church writers that prove beyond any shadow of a doubt that the early church did not keep the seventh day of the week as the Jews.

Your brother in our Lord Jesus Christ,

        Brother Mark.
