SPELLING EDITED V-16. HEBREWS 5:8 THOUGH HE WAS A SON! What does Hebrews 5:8 truly mean in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God? Does this verse prove that Jesus pre-existed in eternity past as the Son of God? Let us read Hebrews 5:8 out of context first and then we will read the context to learn the TRUE meaning. Hebrews 5:8. “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;” Some Christians interpret this verse to mean that God has always had a Son who existed with Him in all eternity past. Trinitarian Christians believe that Jesus pre-existed as being God the Son who always existed WITHOUT ever having a beginning. But other Christians believe that Jesus was BEGOTTEN by the Father and that Jesus did, indeed, HAVE a BEGINNING. Now the Christians who do believe that Jesus had a beginning do not all agree as to WHEN Jesus came into existence. The Jehovah’s Witness Christians believe that Jesus was created in eternity past and then the Son created everything else. The Mormon Christians believe that Jesus pre-existed as a “spirit” child who was sent down at the virgin birth of Jesus. Pretty much, all Unitarian Christians believe that Jesus had a BEGINNING. To my knowledge, only Biblical Unitarian Christians believe that Jesus came into existence for the first time at his virgin birth. Biblical Unitarian Christians believe that Jesus was fully human void of any divine nature DURING the DAYS of his FLESH. Please read the study “WHAT IS BIBLICAL UNITARIANISM?” But for now, let us read Hebrew 5:8 being left IN its CONTEXT. Please read Hebrews 5:4-10. “And no man takes this honor unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron. 5. So ALSO Christ glorified NOT himself to be MADE a high priest; but He (Almighty God who MADE Jesus a high priest) that said unto him, You are my Son, TODAY have I begotten you. (In other words, the Son of MAN, Jesus BECAME God’s ETERNAL Son on the DAY that God raised the Son of MAN from the dead and GLORIFIED him. So Jesus was God’s HUMAN Son DURING the days of his FLESH. Keep reading the context) 6. As He said also in another place, (Speaking of another PROPHECY of Jesus coming into existence by being CONCEIVED in the womb of a woman and being born of the Virgin Mary) You are a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. (Referring to be MADE a priest AFTER the cross) 7. Who in the days of his FLESH, (Speaking of the MORTAL days of Jesus from his virgin birth to his resurrection from the dead) when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to SAVE from death, (Or REDEEM him from death) and was heard in that he feared; 8. Though he was a Son, (Or indeed he came to be a Son) yet (Or but first) learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; (Simply ask yourself WHEN did God’s Son SUFFER? Is there SUFFERING up in heaven? Did Jesus have FLESH up in heaven and come down to be made FLESH? NO! So the phrase “Though he were a Son” is speaking of God’s HUMAN Son, the Son of MAN, Jesus DURING the DAYS of his FLESH who then BECAME God's Son, as in, God's eternal Son after the SUFFERING of the cross. So to me, this verse does NOT prove that Jesus pre-existed in eternity past as God’s Son who was with God at God’s side. But rather, this verse is specifically referring to the HUMAN Son of God DURING the DAYS of his FLESH who now IS a Son for all eternity future. The Greek word translated as the verb “was” in the past tense also means IS or BEING in the PRESENT tense. In other words, it should have never been translated in the past tense, but rather, it should have been translated as INDEED he BEING a Son, as in, he CAME into existence as God's human Son first and then became God's eternal Son after the cross. For you see, the Greek word translated as though or as even though in some other translations is misleading Christians to wrongly think that Jesus pre-existed as the Son of God in the eternity past. This Greek word also means, INDEED, nevertheless, notwithstanding, and yet. It is a compound word that carries the meaning of THEREFORE which means there is a REASON that the Son of man BECAME the Son of God. 9. And being MADE perfect, he BECAME the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; (Or AFTER the cross the Son of MAN was MADE perfect, as in, God GAVE the Son of man the divine nature of immortality to be MADE in the perfect IMAGE of God. And that is WHEN the Son of MAN, Jesus BECAME the Father of everlasting life or the AUTHOR of eternal life, as in, Jesus was given the power to GIVE eternal life to whomsoever OBEYS him. For you see, according to John 5:26,27, the Son of MAN was ALSO GIVEN the power and the authority to raise the dead and give eternal life to whomsoever believes in him and endures unto the end to be saved) 10. Called of God a high priest after the order of Melchisedec.” In other words, everything that Jesus is and has was GIVEN to him BY his God and Father the ONLY true God who is ONE God is ONE person who NOW has his PERFECT Son that will never rebel against him as the angelic being Lucifer did. And when Jesus returns God will have many more faithful sons and daughters to replace the fallen angels that God will destroy on the final Day of Judgment in the Lake of Fire.
