G-27. WHAT Does LUKE 3:23 TRULY MEAN? DOWNLOAD to SAVE as a PDF Doc to read OFFLINE. G-27. WHAT Does LUKE 3:23 TRULY MEAN? Let us begin this study in God’s word by reading Luke 3:22-23. Luke 3:22,23. “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased. 23. And Jesus himself BEGAN to be ABOUT thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,” Now, the Seventh Day Adventist Church teaches that the MINISTRY of Jesus was a full 3 and one half years in length. And the REASON that they NEED the “ministry” of Jesus to be a FULL 3 1/2 years in length is that they claim that Jesus FULFILLED the FIRST half of the seventieth week of Daniel. Now for those of you who may not know about the controversy between Christians as to WHEN Jesus will return, please read the studies under the heading called >>>J-0. Prophecy-2nd COMING of Jesus<<< But for now, I will briefly summarize by saying that some Christians teach a full seven year great tribulation, while other Christians believe and teach a 3 1/2 year great tribulation. And the SDA Christians claim that Jesus alone and by himself fulfilled the first HALF of the seven years of the seventieth week of Daniel. In other words, SDA Christians teach that Jesus fulfilled the first 3 1/2 years of the GREAT tribulation of the Jews. And thus, they NEED the “ministry” of Jesus to be exactly 1260 days to the day. Not one day more and not one day less, but exactly 1260 days. For you see, the seventieth week of Daniel is divided into two halves of 1260 days in each of the two halves. If you want to know WHY the first 1260 days have already been fulfilled by the early church before God turned to the Gentiles, then lease read the study J-32. WHEN is the MIDST of the 70TH WEEK? For now, please know and understand that other Chrsitians, like myself, believe that it was the ALL Jewish church, BEFORE God turned to the Gentiles, that FULFILLED the FIRST HALF of the seventieth week of Daniel. Please read the studies called J-31. A NEW LOOK at the 70TH WEEK of DANIEL!, and J-32. WHEN is the MIDST of the 70TH WEEK? But for now, we are examining the Scriptures to see IF it is even POSSIBLE for the “ministry” of Jesus to be a FULL 3 1/2 years in length. Most Bible scholars teach that Jesus was born in the FALL of the year. And the Roman Catholic Church teaches that Jesus was born in the WINTER on December 25th. So, in order for the “ministry” of Jesus to FIT the INTERPRETATION of a FULL 3 1/2 years in length, then we need to subtract 1260 DAYS from Nissan 14 to find the very DAY that Jesus BEGAN his MINISTRY. In other words, for the SDA Church “interpretation” of a FULL 3 1/2 years in length to work out, then Jesus had to BEGIN his ministry 1260 days BEFORE his crucifixion on Nissan 14th. For you see, 1260 days is the Biblical prophetic number of days for a FULL 3 1/2 years using 30 days for each month. So then, IF Luke 3:23 “literally” means that Jesus BEGAN to be ABOUT the exact age of 30 years when he BEGAN his “ministry”, then it is IMPOSSIBLE for Jesus to have minister for a FULL 3 1/2 years in length. For you see, you cannot simply ADD an additional HALF of a year to the ministry of Jesus if his ministry BEGAN in the SPRING of the year and also ENDED in the SPRING of the year. We all agree that Jesus was crucified and resurrected in the SPRING of the year. And the calculator that I use shows that Nissan 14 fell on April 5th in 30 AD and on April 25th in 31 AD. And thus, Nissan 14, the day that Jesus was crucified, always falls in the SPRING of the year no matter what year Jesus died, and no matter what calculator you use. And from the evidence in the gospel of John, Jesus BEGAN his ministry DAYS before the Feast of Passover. And by “days” I mean LESS than 180 days. For you see, 6 months of 30 prophetic days in each month is 180 days. And it was LESS than 180 days from the day Jesus was baptized to the Feast of Passover which began with the Day of Preparation on Nissan 14. In other words, it was on Nissan 14 that the Jews KILLED the Passover LAMB which was a SHADOW of Jesus being crucified on Nissan 14. And we all agree that Jesus was ANOINTED at his baptism by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. It was at his BAPTISM that Jesus saw a vision of the Holy Spirit descending from heaven in the form of a dove and rested upon him. And that was when God ANOINTED the Son of MAN, Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power. Now, some Chirstians interpret the baptism of Jesus as being the very day that Jesus began his ministry when he BEGAN to be ABOUT 30 years of age. Other Christians, such as myself, interpret Luke 4:21 as the very day that Jesus actually began his ministry. For you see, Jesus BEGAN to reveal to the Jews that he was the Christ prophesied in the Scriptures. And Jesus said, THIS DAY the Scripture is FULFILLED in your ears. Please read Luke 4:16-30. “And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, (Isaiah 61:1,2) 18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has ANOINTED me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21. And he BEGAN to say unto them, This DAY is this Scripture FULFILLED in your ears. 22. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? (Or according to Luke 3:23, And Jesus himself BEGAN to be ABOUT thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph) 23. And he said unto them, You will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal yourself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your country. 24. And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. 25. But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; 26. But to none of them was Elijah sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. 28. And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29. And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30. But he passing through the midst of them went his way,”
So then, on the FIRST attempt to minister to the Jews in his own hometown of Nazareth, Jesus BEGAN to tell them that he was the Christ, the ANOINTED one prophesied in the Scriptures, but the Jews REJECTED Jesus. However, when Jesus RETURNED to Nazareth many RECEIVED him, because they were in Jerusalem and the SAW the mighty works that God did through him. Matthew 3:13-17. “Then came Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized by him. (And Mark 1:9 adds a little more specific detail that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee) 14. But John forbad him, saying, I need to be baptized of you, and you come to me? 15. And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus, it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered, him. 16. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17. And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 4:1-3. “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (And Mark 1:13 adds a little more specific detail saying IMMEDIATELY Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness) 2. And when he had FASTED forty days and forty nights, he was AFTERWARD hungry. (In other words, Jesus was NOT tempted until AFTER he FASTED for forty days and forty nights. It was AFTER Jesus HUNGERED that Satan came and tempted him to turn stones into bread so he could EAT and not be HUNGRY. It is not a temptation if Jesus was NOT hungry) 3. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” Let us “assume” for the moment that Jesus BEGAN his ministry on the very DAY that he was BAPTIZED by John the baptist in the River Jordan. And thus, we will call that DAY number ONE for the moment. Later on we will call the day that Jesus read from Isaiah 61:1,2 and said, THIS DAY this Scripture is FULFILLED in your ears as being DAY number ONE that Jesus actually BeGAN his ministry. But for now, let us assume that the day Jesus was “baptized” as being day ONE when Jesus began his ministry. Now let us add the 40 days and forty nights that Jesus FASTED. Assuming that Jesus had eaten something on day ONE when he was baptized we now are on day FORTY ONE. The Scripture says AFTERWORD Jesus hungered. And thus, the first of the three temptations started on day FORTY TWO. Since we cannot say for sure either way as to how many days Jesus was actually tempted, I am going to call day FORTY THREE as the day that Satan left off tempting Jesus and the temptations ended. But keep in mind that we could add TWO more days, one day for each of the remaining two temptations. And that would make day 45 and the day the temptations ended. Now let us read the account of the baptism of Jesus in the gospel of John. For you see, the Apostle John gives us some more specific details of what happened right after the temptations of Jesus ended on day FORTY THREE and possibly on day 45. In John 1:32-51, we read the account of the “baptism” of Jesus. Then in John 2:1-4,1,12 we learn that the wedding at Cana happened AFTER day forty three, which was when the temptation of Jesus ended. Here is John 1:32-51 first. “And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33. And I knew him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. 34. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. (Now, the next verse has an important CLUE that BEFORE Jesus went to the wedding at Cana, Jesus had to choose his twelve disciples FIRST. For you see, Jesus AND his disciples were invited to the wedding at Cana. And thus, it took at least one DAY, perhaps 2 or 3 days to choose all twelve of his disciples) 35. Again, the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36. And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God! 37. And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. (So then, day ONE of Jesus CHOOSING his Disciples to the THIRD day, the day of the wedding at Cana was THREE days added to FORTY THREE, the day the temptations ended. This brings us to day FORTY SIX on the wedding at Cana. In other words, from day ONE on which Jesus was BAPTIZED or ANOINTED to the day of the wedding at Cana was forty six days) 38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said unto them, What seek you? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwell you? 39. He said unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that DAY: for it was about the tenth hour. 40. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41. He first finds his own brother Simon, and said unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, You are Simon the son of Jona: you shall be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. (That was the first day or day one of Jesus choosing his disciples) 43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and finds Philip, and said unto him, Follow me. (So this is the second day of Jesus choosing his disciples) 44. Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45. Philip finds Nathanael, and said unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said unto him, Come and see. 47. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 48. Nathanael said unto him, From where do you know me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you. 49. Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel. 50. Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto you, I saw you under the fig tree, you believe? You shall see greater things than these. 51. And he said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of MAN.”
So then, on day FORTY FIVE, Jesus finished choosing his first TWELVE disciples that he later named his twelve Apostles. Now let us read what happened on the FORTY SIXTH day after Jesus was baptized or ANOINTED by God with the Holy Spirit and power, according to Acts 10:38. Please read John 2:1-4,11,12. “And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: (So then, it was forty six days after Jesus was baptized that he did his FIRST miracle at the wedding in Cana) 2. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine. 4. Jesus said unto her, Woman, what have I to do with you? My hour has not yet come… …11. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 12. After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.” So then, after the wedding at Cana, which I am ASSUMING only lasted ONE day, Jesus went to Capernaum were he stayed for a few days before going to Nazareth which we read about in Luke 4: Since we are not specifically told how many days, we will “interpret” the phrase “not MANY days” as being anywhere from three days to eight days. I say eight days because FEW souls were saved on the ark during the flood and we know that EIGHT souls means FEW. And a few days is not MANY days. And thus, if we add EIGHT days to the FORTY SIX days, then we end up with FIFTY FOUR days from the day Jesus was baptized or anointed to the day he spoke to the Jews in the synagogue in his hometown Nazareth saying, THIS DAY in this Scripture FULFILLED in your ear. And if we add two more days for the days of being tempted with THREE temptations. One day for each temptation, then we end up with FORTY SIX days maximum and FORTY THREE days minimum Now the very NEXT verse of Scripture on this FORTY SIXTH day maximum or the FORTY THIRD day minimum after the anointing of Jesus says that the Feast of Passover is NEAR at hand. Please read John 2:13. “And the Jews' Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,” In other words, we know that the words “AT HAND” do NOT mean NEXT YEAR. And thus, this Feast of Passover was in the SPRING of the year, the SAME Spring of the year that Jesus was baptized just FORTY SIX days ago maximum or FORTY THREE days ago minimum. Therefore, if we “interpret” Luke 3:23 “LITERALLY” to mean that Jesus was just about to turn 30 years old at the time he was BAPTIZED to BEGIN his ministry, then it is NOT possible for Jesus to have have a full THREE and one HALF a year ministry as the SDA Church CLAIMS. You cannot BEGIN the ministry in the Spring of the year and END that ministry 3 years later in the Spring of the year and end up with a full 3 1/2 year ministry. It will either be a TWO year ministry or a THREE year ministry. Now, I conclude that the ministry of Jesus was a TWO year ministry. Please read the study called G-26. Is the FEAST in John 5:1 the PASSOVER? But for now, just briefly, there are FOUR possible Passover feast recorded in the gospel of John. But one of those four accounts must be “INTERPRETED” to mean a Feast of Passover. And if it is NOT the feast of Passover, then there are only THREE Passover feasts recorded in the gospel of John. And since the FIRST feast of Passover in John 2:13-23 is in the SAME Spring of the year that Jesus BEGAN his ministry, then that means that the ministry of Jesus was only TWO years and some DAYS. And by some days, I mean a maximum of fifty days and as few as a FEW days, depending on when one interprets as being the BEGINNING of the ministry of Jesus. In other words, did the ministry of Jesus BEGIN on the DAY he was baptized or ANOINTED by God? Or did the ministry of Jesus actually BEGIN some FORTY THREE to FORTY SIX days later when he said THIS DAY is this Scripture FULFILLED in your ears? For you see, Jesus left that day on day forty six and went to Jerusalem, and the Feast of Passover was AT HAND. Now Jesus arrived in Jerusalem shortly before the Feast of Passover because the money changers were still SELLING the animals to be sacrificed on the Day of Preparation. And thus, it could have been around ten days before the Feast of Passover that Jesus came into the city of Jerusalem in the FIRST year of his ministry that just BEGAN a few days ago up to forty six days ago. So we can NOT count that FIRST Passover in John 2:13-23 as being a YEAR of ministry. Again, please read the study called G-26. Is the FEAST in John 5:1 the PASSOVER? But for now, I want to take a CLOSER look at Luke 3:23 by reading it from another translation. “And Jesus himself, when he began [to teach], was ABOUT (Or AFTER) thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the [son] of Heli,” “And Jesus at this time was ABOUT (Or AFTER) thirty years old, being the son (as it seemed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,” “Jesus was ABOUT (Or AFTER) 30 years old when he began his ministry. People supposed that he was the son of Joseph son of Heli” “When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was ABOUT (Or AFTER) thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, the son of Eli,” I used the word (Or AFTER) because the Greek word ALSO means AFTER. The Greek word translated as “ABOUT” is a compound word made up of two Greek words. And one of those Greek words ALSO means AFTER as opposed to ABOUT. So then, Luke 3:23 can be “interpreted to mean that Jesus began to be AFTER 30 years of age. So why would I even bring this up? We know from Hosea 12:10 that Yahweh used visions and similitudes. In other words the “ministries” of the prophets in the Old Testament are a SIMILITUDE to the MINISTRY of Jesus. Please read Hosea 12:10. “I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used SIMILITUDES, by the MINISTRY of the prophets” Now let us look at the prophet Ezekiel who is called the Son of Man no less than 93 times in the Book of Ezekiel. I was doing a study on the TRUE meaning of the MAN in Ezekiel 1:26 when I became fascinated with the SIMILARITIES between Ezekiel and the Son of MAN, Jesus. And when I read in Ezekiel 1:1-3 that Ezekiel had a VISION and heaven was OPENED at the age of 30 years FOUR months and 5 days, I immediately thought of Jesus at his baptism and heaven being opened in Luke 3:21. And that is when I took a closer look at the meanings of the words in Luke 3:23 and saw that the Greek word that is “translated” as “about” also means AFTER 30 years of age. Please read Ezekiel 1:1,2. “Now it came to pass (Or it will be FULFILLED) in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, (And Jesus was ABOUT or AFTER the age of thirty when he was baptized in the River Jordan being AMONG those who were CAPTIVES of SIN) as I was among the captives by the RIVER of Chebar, (Which means length of time. In other words, what happened formally in the days of Ezekiel when he was about or more precisely AFTER the age of thirty will come to pass in the future. The word Chebar also carries the meaning to unite, to JOIN, to couple together, to have FELLOWSHIP with. And the word “Jordan” means to NEGATE. In other words, the PAST sins of the captives to sin are NOW no longer and the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in the believers to FELLOWSHIP and lead and guide us into all truth. And as the Son of MAN, Jesus was among or in the midst of the captives of sin in the River Jordan to be baptized for the REMISSION of sins) that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. (And according to Matthew 3:15-17, Mark 1:10,11, Luke 3:22, and John 1:31-34, the heavens were opened and John the Baptist saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove to remain on the Son of MAN, Jesus, the Lamb of God SLAIN in the mind and plan of salvation of God before the foundation of the world) 2. In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity,”
For more similarities between the Son of Man Ezekiel and the Son of MAN, Jesus, please read the study called V-50. WHO Is the MAN In EZEKIEL 1:26? Also, read the study called G-26. Is the FEAST in John 5:1 the PASSOVER? In that study you will find all of the verses that clearly teach us that the ministry of Jesus was TWO years and NOT three years as some Christians claim. So WHY does all of this matter? Well first of all, the TRUTH matters to ME. Secondly, it matters because it helps us to better pinpoint the exact year of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. So WHY does it matter when Jesus was resurrected? Well, in you believe in the 7000 year plan of salvation and you know the exact year that Jesus was resurrected, then all you need to do is add 2000 years to the year that Jesus was resurrected and Jesus will return no later than the FALL of that year. Now, I have concluded from my research that the BEST two possible years for the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus are 30 AD and 31 AD. And thus, Jesus will return no later than the FALL of 2031 AD, which is not that far away. So around 8 or 9 years from the FALL of 2022 we can expect to see the SIGNS of the coming of the Son of MAN to rapture the church. And then, we, together with Jesus will execute the WRATH of God on those who have rejected Jesus and who are making WAR in the land of Israel, seeking to wipe out the Jews from off the face of the earth. Please read the study J-28. COULD ISLAM be the MARK of the BEAST? Now, if we convert 30 years 4 months and 5 days to Biblical prophetic months with 30 days in each month we get 30 years and 125 days. I left 30 years as solar years because it does not matter. The focus is on the 4 months and 5 days which is 125 day. Now a FULL SIX months is 180 days. And 180 days minus 125 days is 55 days. Now subtract the 43 to 45 days from the 55 days and you get 12 days to 10 days. And TEN days to the Feast of Passover being AT HAND would be Nissan 1, which is when the LAMB was taken out of the flock to make ready for it to be SLAIN. And Jesus went to Jerusalem on the first Passover when it was AT HAND. So for me, I find the SIMILITUDE of the Son of Man Ezekiel to be very fascinating to the MINISTRY of the Son of MAN, Jesus. So again, please read the study called V-50. WHO Is the MAN In EZEKIEL 1:26? And thus, the exact AGE of Jesus when he was crucified and resurrected may very well have been 32 years and six months. And some Bible scholars have calculated the BIRTH of Jesus to be in the FALL of the year somewhere between September 11 to September 19, depending on which Bible scholar you research. And in the study I did on when Jesus was born, I conclude at that time that the best date for the birth of Jesus is September 11 3 BC. And that is very close to being exactly SIX months to Nissan 14, which would make Jesus to be 32 years and 6 months old when he died on the cross for the sins of the world.
