A dear brother in the Lord wrote to me commenting on how he was blessed by the study J-16. DID ENOCH AND ELIJAH DIE? And he commented that he felt that the book of Enoch should be an “essential” reading for all Christians. I disagreed with his choice of words as being essential and explained that only the 66 books of the Bible should be used for doctrine. I then suggested that perhaps the word “suggest” reading the book of Enoch would be a better choice of words. He agreed that essential reading was too strong of a word and sent me some links to other websites that he found rather interesting. And after checking out those articles for myself, I am thinking that perhaps the word “suggest” is too less forceful of a word. So somewhere between suggest and essential reading I now believe that Christians OUGHT to consider reading the book of Enoch without fear of reading some heretical forbidden book. And I believe you will see WHY I say this after you read the evidence in the SCRIPTURES and in the history of the early first century church writings that Jesus himself and the Apostles of Jesus called the book of Enoch Scriptures. And he commented that he agreed with my position that the “Book of 1 Enoch” is absolutely NOT necessary for salvation. So we both agree that “1 Enoch” is BENEFICIAL for MATURE Christians who desire to go deeper into the word of God. We both agree that 1 Enoch can help with sorting through some of the gaps in Scripture, or where it appears vague or contradictory in the Western canon. Now, what changed my mind was his personal testimony of his sincere desire to know the truth. He asked God WHY the book of “1 Enoch” was left out of nearly all Bible translations, while those same translations use information and quotations that could only come from the book of Enoch? He commented that 1 Enoch was the very first book of Scripture written and that it was widely shared for thousands of years beginning at Noah's time. He went on to say that it was much later in the 3rd-4th century AD that it was disregarded for doctrinal reasons. And he said that “Several things preached in the book of Enoch were taught by Jesus and his Apostles.” And that got my attention to research this out for myself! So below is my own personal research as to whether or not the book of 1 Enoch should be added to the canon of Scripture in the Bible. Now, before this study, I did not fully comprehend that there are three “translations” of the book of Enoch. But now I understand that just like “translations” of other books of the Bible DIFFER in places, so do the “translations” of the book of Enoch differ in SOME places. And the “recommended” translation is 1 Enoch. With that being said, let us begin this study on the book of 1 Enoch. It has been stated by some theologians that the main reason the Book of 1 Enoch was dismissed was that it makes it much more difficult to hold onto the doctrine of the Trinity. And when the early church councils of the Nicene fathers got together to decide what books should be canon, it was NOT so much an issue of provenance, but rather, the core issue was doctrine, and more specifically, about the NATURE of Jesus. The Ante-Nicene “Latin” fathers believed that the nature of Jesus was both divine and human at the same time during the days of the FLESH of Jesus. But many other Christians believed that the nature of the Son of MAN, Jesus was fully human. A significant number of church leaders in the 4th century wanted to push the Trinity concept or theory on all Christians and this would be literally impossible if the ante-Nicene fathers, who later became the bishops and priests of the Roman Catholic Church, kept the book of “1 Enoch” as being SCRIPTURE. Again, the book of Enoch was definitely considered as Scripture by Jesus and the first century disciples of Jesus right up to the fourth century. For you see, Jesus himself along with most of the Apostles, and many Old Testament authors referenced the writings of Enoch. It is believed by some Bible scholars that Jesus himself referenced the Book of Enoch and called it Scripture. And since Almighty God Himself put the words into the mouth of His Prophet to speak, then Almighty God the Father refers to the words that Jesus quoted in Mark 12:24,25 as being SCRIPTURE. And there is no higher authority than Almighty God the Father Himself. For you see, you will NOT find what Jesus quoted in any of the “accepted” 39 books of the Old Testament or in the “accepted” apocryphal books, so let us go ahead and read Mark 12:24,25. Mark 12:24,25. “And Jesus answering said unto them, Do you not therefore err, because you know not the Scriptures, neither the power of God? 25. For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither MARRY, nor are given in MARRIAGE; but are as the angels which are in heaven.” Again, you will not find any words in the Old Testament that are even close to resembling the Scripture Jesus quoted in Mark 12:25, but you will find a verse of Scripture in the book of Enoch that is very close to the words of Jesus that he calls Scripture. Please read this quote from the book of Enoch 15:1-8. The following quote is NOT from 1 Enoch so that you can see that in most places the other two translations of the book of Enoch are almost word for word. You can click on the link above and compare 1 Enoch with the quote below that is not from 1 Enoch. I have only quoted from another translation to show you that all three translations of Enoch say the same thing except for a few places that I believe were deliberately changed to support the doctrine of the Trinity. The emphasis and comments in parentheses are mine. 1 Enoch 15:1-8. “Then addressing me, (Referring to Yahweh addressing His prophet Enoch and SCRIBE) He spoke and said, Hear, neither be afraid, O righteous Enoch, you SCRIBE of righteousness: approach hither, and hear my voice. Go, say to the Watchers of heaven, who have sent you to pray for them, (And tell the angels or the Watchers) You ought to pray for men, and NOT men for you. 2. Wherefore, you have (Speaking of the fallen angels, the Watchers, have) forsaken the lofty and holy heaven, which endures forever, and have lain with women; having defiled yourselves with the daughters of men; having taken to yourselves wives; having acted like the sons of the earth, and have begotten an impious offspring? 3. You (The fallen angels) being spiritual, holy, and possessing a life which is eternal, have polluted yourselves with women; have begotten in carnal blood; have lusted in the blood of men; and have done as those who are flesh and blood do. 4. These, (Speaking of mortal humans) however, die and perish. 5. Therefore, have I given to them wives, that they might cohabit with them; (Their human wives) that sons might be born of them; and that this might be transacted upon earth. 6. But you (Speaking of the angels) from the beginning were made spiritual, possessing a life which is eternal, and NOT subject to death forever. 7. Therefore, I made NOT wives for you, because, being spiritual, your dwelling is in heaven. (So then, Jesus could very well be quoting verses 6 and 7 from the book of Enoch, which Jesus calls Scripture in Mark 12:24,25. Keep in mind that many of the quotes in the New Testament are not word for word. And these two verses are a very close match to the words of Jesus in Mark 12:25 saying, “For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.” God made the angels to NOT have wives because they were created as immortal beings but men were created as mortal) 8. Now the giants, who have been born of spirit and of flesh, shall be called upon earth evil spirits, and on earth shall be their habitation. Evil spirits shall proceed from their flesh, because they were created from above; from the holy Watchers was their beginning and primary foundation. Evil spirits shall they be upon earth, and the spirits of the wicked shall they be called. The habitation of the spirits of heaven shall be in heaven; but upon earth shall be the habitation of terrestrial spirits, who are born on earth.” You can see that the words of Jesus are very close to what God’s SCRIBE, Enoch, wrote or recorded in the book of Enoch and which Jesus called SCRIPTURE. This leads me to believe that Enoch the SCRIBE penned God’s inspired word in a book, and that book was read in his day for generations. And it is very possible that Noah took a copy of the book of Enoch on the Ark with him. Also, do not forget to COMPARE Mark 12:25 with Luke 20:34-40. And while you read both passages of Scripture in its context please notice that Jesus is discussing TWO things, the resurrection from the dead to never die again and being like the angels who are not given wives in heaven to marry and have children. Now, the resurrection can be seen in many books of the Old Testament Scripture. But the angels having not being given wives in heaven can ONLY be found in the Book of Enoch that Jesus himself calls Scripture in Mark 12:24,25. Please read Luke 20:34-40. “And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world MARRY, and are given in MARRIAGE: 35. But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither MARRY, nor are given in marriage: 36. Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. (The phrase “equal unto the angels” is translated from a compound Greek word that is only used ONE time in the Scriptures. That Greek word means LIKE the angels. Since that Greek word is only used 1 time in the New Testament, then we must compare Scripture with Scripture to see what LIKE the angels means in the light of other verses of Scripture. And when we read Mark 12:24,25, we can see that the Angels in heaven are not given in marriage. And the ONLY book of Scripture that teaches us that the angels are not given wives to marry is the Book of Enoch, which Jesus calls SCRIPTURE) 37. Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shows at the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. 39. Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, you have well said. 40. And after that, they dared not ask him any questions at all.” Now, the FACT that Yahweh calls Enoch His SCRIBE of righteousness, then I would not be too quick to call the Book of Enoch a FABLE or a forgery that was written as a pseudo work by a Jew during the four hundred year SILENCE of God’s prophets after the prophet Malachi. With that being said, let us now take a look at a couple of PROPHECIES in Jeremiah 8:8,9 and Proverbs 22:19-21 where it is prophesied that people would REJECT what God inspired the PEN of the SCRIBES to write. Jeremiah 8:8,9. “How do you say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. (Or BEHOLD, certain ones who say they are wise speak in VAIN. In other words, making the TRUTH into a lie is done in VAIN. So then, God made the so-called wise, speaking of those claiming to be wise, He made the PEN of the SCRIBES to be untruth or NOT INSPIRED by God. Plain and simple, what the so-called wise write or teach is made known to us by God as being FALSE and worthless) 9. The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?” In other words, the wise in the wisdom of MEN will be confused, rattled, and beholden. Behold they have spurned to disappear the word of Yahweh that was penned by His scribes. And what WISDOM is in those words of Yahweh. So remember that Yahweh calls Enoch His SCRIBE of righteousness. And also know that Enoch writes a LOT about Jesus in the Book of Enoch. With that being said, let us read another prophecy about the wise who are wise in the Lord who God has given wisdom.
Proverbs 22:17-21. “Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart unto my knowledge. 18. For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall all be fitted in your lips. (Or the words of the wise will all unite together to be one to make sure your lips) 19. That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to you this day, even to you. 20. Have not I written to you excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 21. That I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth; that you might answer the words of truth to them who send unto you?”
The word send can mean those who push away the truth and also those who seek or inquire on YouTube for man's truth. So the whole point of what God inspired His SCRIBES to write is so that we may know the TRUTH to trust in Yahweh and His salvation through His Messiah or His Christ, according to Luke 2:26, Psalm 2:1-12, Psalm 110:1,2, and Acts 2:36, whom He MADE both Lord and Christ. Now, if you do your own research, then you will no doubt come across Trinitarian Christians who will scoff at the Book of Enoch. You will hear many Trinitarian apologetics try to explain away the Book of Enoch. They will say things like, “Even though Jude quotes the Book of Enoch we don’t know that he felt it was inspired by God to be a part of His Scripture”. Do you see how they downplay the FACT that Jude, the brother of Jesus, who quotes the Book of Enoch in Jude 1:6.7 by saying we do not KNOW if Jude FELT what he quotes as being INSPIRED by God. To me, that is like saying Jude did not KNOW for sure that Jesus is coming back or not. What a ridiculous Trinitarian argument! Of course Jude felt that the Book of Enoch was INSPIRED! And not only that, Jude was INSPIRED to SPECIFICALLY name the book that he quotes from when he could have NAMED an Old Testament book, such as Deuteronomy 33:2, Daniel 7:9,10, or Zechariah 14:5. Otherwise, Jude would not have QUOTED the Book of Enoch and specifically NAMED that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, was the one who prophesied the coming of Jesus with ten thousand of his saints. Why would God inspire Jude to SPECIFICALLY name Enoch so SPECIFICALLY so that we would know that it was SPECIFICALLY Enoch who was the SEVENTH from Adam if Jude did not FEEL that Enoch was a SCRIBE of Yahweh as Trinitarian Christians CLAIM? Simply read the CONTEXT for yourself which certainly shows Jude felt it was inspired, even if the Roman Catholic Church and other Trinitarian apologists claim it was not inspired. If you believe the Trinitarian argument that the Book of Enoch was not inspired by God, then you may have not been told about the many other places in the New Testament that cannot be found anywhere in 39 books of the Old Testament, but they can be found in the book of Enoch. For you see, Jude’s quote is NOT the only reference to the New Testament that quotes from the Book of Enoch. Many of the Apostles of Jesus explain examples of what is taught in the Book of Enoch. And to me, this proves that this book is inspired by Almighty God Himself. Anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear can see that the Book of Enoch had a very significant influence on both the writers of the Old Testament and the writers of the New Testament. And that influence CONTINUED to inspire the early church writers all the way up through the fourth century. It was during the fifth century that the Roman Catholic Church DESTROYED every book they found that opposed their man-made doctrine of a Trinity Godhead. Again, Jesus’ brother Jude found no hesitation in comparing the sins of the Watchers or the fallen angels with the account of Sodom and Gomorrah in Jude 1:6-7. So let us go ahead and read what Jude quoted from the Book of Enoch by reading the whole chapter. Jude 1:1-25. “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: (Always remember that God MADE the Son of MAN, Jesus, BOTH Lord and Christ AFTER the cross and resurrection, according the Acts 2:36 and many other verses of Scripture) 2. Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. 3. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that you should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (Such as the Son of MAN, Jesus, was MADE both Lord and Christ after the cross and resurrection. But ALSO that CERTAIN men of OLD were ORDAINED or who were INSPIRED by God and had WRITTEN in ANCIENT times about ungodly men who would DENY Yahweh and our Lord Jesus Christ) 4. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (The KJV translation has made this verse say that something that the “God INTENDED word of TRUTH” is NOT saying. Think about what the KJV is saying about men of OLD supposedly creeping into the church before the church ever existed and who denied Jesus before he was ever born, because that is what the KJV is saying. No! It was not SINNERS of old, but rather, it was inspired men of God who WROTE down in ANCIENT times what God INSPIRED them to write concerning the last days WHEN ungodly men would creep in among Christians and deny Yahweh and His Son Jesus. Keep reading the context and you will see that I am teaching you the truth) 5. I will, THEREFORE, put you in REMEMBRANCE, though you ONCE KNEW this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. 6. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, (Now, Jude could have quoted Moses in Genesis 6:2, but Moses does NOT prophesy about the judgment of the fallen angels. That prophecy can only be found by CERTAIN men of OLD or ancient times who were SCRIBES who wrote of the judgment of ANGELS that God has reserved in chains of darkness. And Jude is putting the disciples of Jesus is his days in REMEMBRANCE of those CERTAIN prophets which they ONCE KNEW that) He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 7. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, (Speaking of homosexuality, men lying with men, and women lying with women. But also comparing the sin of humans with the sin of the fallen angels going after STRANGE flesh that was foreign to the angelic nature of angels) are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jesus teaches us that the eternal fire was prepared for Satan and his angels, but then hell enlarged herself) 8. Likewise, ALSO these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, (Of MEN. The context is contrasting going after STRANGE FLESH that is not intended by God to go after. And the prophecies of CERTAIN men in ancient times prophesied that this going after STRANGE flesh would ALSO CREEP into the church. And those men and women would) despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. (Now, consider the phrase “certain MEN of OLD” who were ordained being PLURAL. We know that Jude specifically NAMED one of those MEN of old as being Enoch. But I am seeing that Jude is also teaching us that Abraham was one of the other certain men of old as well. For you see, by Jude comparing the judgment of the fallen angels with the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah that happened in the days of Abraham. So how did Moses learn about Sodom and Gomorrah except through what Abraham WROTE DOWN as being Scripture? It is not a stretch to believe that Abraham wrote down what God revealed to him and then Moses read what Abraham recorded as Scripture. And then Moses wrote down what Abraham wrote adding more detail of what God revealed to Moses) 9. Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke you. (Again, this quote from Jude cannot be found in any of the “accepted” 39 books in the Old Testament Scripture. So then, WHERE did Jude learn about Michael the Archangel contending with Satan over the body of Moses? Have you forgotten that Jude is putting us in REMEMBRANCE of what the early church ONCE KNEW about CERTAIN men of old who WROTE down their prophecies about the judgment of ANGELS bound in chains of darkness? Keep reading and you will see that Jude SPECIFICALLY NAMES one of those CERTAIN men as being Enoch the SEVENTH from Adam. And again, I believe that Jude is teaching us about Abraham as being another SCRIBE of God) 10. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. 11. Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. (We know that Moses wrote about Balaam but WHO wrote about Cain? Could Adam have also been one of those certain men of old that God ordained to write down Scripture? Is not Scripture the word of Almighty God that was written down?) 12. These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit wither, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; 13. Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. 14. And Enoch ALSO, (Speaking of Enoch as ALSO being one of those CERTAIN MEN of old as being ORDAINED by God as a SCRIBE to write down what God revealed to him) the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, (Speaking of the judgment of these, the evil men who TURN the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ) saying, Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints, 15. To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, (Now, one of the ungodly DEEDS of the ungodly that Jude describes is what they teach or speak out of their ungodly mouths. So as you read the following phrase along with verse 16,17, I want you to think of “predestination” believing Christians that BLAME God for everything that happens. Also, think about the Ante-Nicene Latin fathers who became the Roman Catholic church, and think about the Christians who today are called the United Pentecostal Oneness Christians) AND of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; (In other words, these ungodly men grumbled against Jesus and his saints or faithful Christians in a bad-tempered way. And some were complainers which means they wrongly BLAME God for everything that happens like the Calvinistic and Reformed Theology Christians do today) AND their mouths speak great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. (Now, to ME, this description of ungodly men speaking great swelling words having the praise of men because of ADVANTAGE sounds a lot like the Ante-Nicene and the Nicene “Latin” fathers who became the Roman Catholic Church having the ADVANTAGE of political power of Constantine on their side. The word “swelling” is translated from a compound Greek word that carries the meaning of going beyond the Scriptures to BEND. The word “advantage” also means profit which includes profit of money or filthy lucre as the books of Peter, Timothy, and Titus warn us about. So there were ungodly men in the days of Jude who were fleecing the flock) 17. But, beloved, remember you the words which were spoken before of the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18. How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. (And that is what the Roman Catholic Church did. She separated herself by EXCLUDING every other Christian who REJECTED what had become the DOGMAS of the Nicene “Latin” fathers that later became known as the Roman Catholic Church and their Gnostic philosophical Trinity Godhead of three persons in one God) 20. But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (Some Christians have not been taught the BENEFITS of praying in other tongues. So I implore you to stir up the gift that is within you to pray in other tongues. Please read the study called I-4. STIR UP the Holy Spirit that is WITHIN You! For you see, God TEACHES us understanding of His word as we are praying to God in other tongues) 21. Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22. And of some have compassion, making a difference: (Most Christians believing false teachings are “ignorant” of what they believe are false doctrines and traditions of men. So we need to have compassion and patience with Christians who simply “parrot” what they have been wrongly taught) 23. And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. (But others who are “teachers” and “apologists” of false doctrines who KNOW that what they teach is not “specifically” taught in the Bible ITSELF. And thus, they try to explain away the verses of Scripture that contradict their “interpretation” of the Scripture. And at times, we are to use FEAR to pull them out of the fire) 24. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His GLORY with exceeding joy, (And Yahweh’s GLORY is His Son, the Son of MAN Jesus, who He ANOINTED to be above his fellows, according to Hebrews 1:8,9, and Philippians 2:8-11) 25. To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” And Almighty God is always clearly identified as being the Father. And the Father is clearly identified as being the only wise God in 1 Timothy 1:17. And Jesus is clearly identified as the IMAGE of the INVISIBLE God in Colossians 1:15. So I implore you to read the studies called P-5. What does Colossians 1:15-23 TRULY MEAN?, D-9. What does Made in the IMAGE of God mean?, and O-13. What does Firstborn of every Creature mean? But for now, let us take a look at the arguments AGAINST the Book of Enoch as being SCRIPTURE used by the Ante-Nicene and Nicene Latin church fathers who became the “Trinitarian” Christians of today. We already covered the argument made by Trinitarian Christians that “Just because Jude quotes Enoch in the book of Jude does not mean that Jude felt Enoch was INSPIRED by God.” Then WHY did Jude SPECIFICALLY identify Enoch when he could have named Moses and the book of Deuteronomy by saying something like, it is written in Deuteronomy 33:2 that he is coming with ten thousand of his saints? So no, that Trinitarian augment against the Book of Enoch not being inspired as being Scripture does not prove anything. The next Trinitarian argument is that the Apostle Paul quoted at times from what we know to be pseudo-writings of the Jews to try and prove that Jude believed that the Book of Enoch was a pseudo-writing of the Jews as well. But what they fail to tell you is that he qualified what he quoted as being a custom of the Jews by saying that in the CHURCH we have no such custom. The same is seen with the false teaching of the baptism of the dead. Paul clearly identified those who teach that baptism of the dead as being THEM and NOT us, the church. So then, this Trinitarian argument does NOT prove that Jude was quoting from a FALSE teaching to teach the TRUTH, according to Deuteronomy 33:2. The next argument is a bit longer so I will quote it from another website so you can read it for yourself. Again, the emphasis and comments in parentheses are mine. I will put his words in a different font style so that you will know that I disagree with his “INTERPRETATION” that ONLY the Ethiopian Christians considered the Book of Enoch to be inspired Scripture. The article starts with a question wanting to know why the Book of Enoch was taken OUT of the Old Testament Scriptures. He replies by arguing that the Book of Enoch was never included in the Old Testament Scriptures. Notice how he contradicts himself in the following quote of his own words. “In fact, the Ethiopian Coptic Church still has the Book of Enoch in its Old Testament canon. This is the only significant Christian group which includes Enoch. It has been in their canon from ancient times, so the book has never been “lost.” It was “lost” to Europe from the early Medieval period until the late 1700’s when a Scottish explorer James Bruce brought three manuscripts to the UK, from which it (The three manuscripts of the Book of Enoch) was translated into English in the nineteenth century… …The book is said to be (Or CLAIMED to be) pseudepigraphal because the book is ascribed to the same Enoch who was seventh from Adam. (How is that a REASON for the Book of Enoch to be a pseudepigraphical writing? How is it “obvious” that Enoch did not write the book of Enoch just because someone CLAIMS it to be so?) Obviously, Enoch did not write this book, so it is falsely attributed to him, which is the meaning of pseudepigraphal (falsely signed)... ...The book was known to the Jews in the first century BC, as is proved by their quotes from Enoch, by its having been found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, as well as from the fact that the New Testament book of Jude (Jude 1:14-15) mentions the story in the Book of Enoch... ...Whether Jude is simply using a common story to make an illustration or he is attributing inspiration to the book is not clear from how it is used in Jude.(Again, it is very clear for the context that Jude was quoting SCRIPTURE that was written down by Enoch) Early church fathers ALSO mention Enoch and occasionally QUOTE from it in Greek translation. Origen, Tertullian and other early church fathers mentioned and USED the Book of Enoch, and there is good evidence that it influenced their thinking about the Old Testament. For obscure reasons, the church in Ethiopia was particularly fond of the Book of Enoch; so much so that they included it as part of what we know of as the Old Testament Apocrypha... ...As for the content of the Book of Enoch, it includes Jewish stories which provide added details to Old Testament texts. For example, in 1 Enoch we learn that demons are fallen angels and that such fallen angelic beings had sexual relationships with human women, giving birth to the nephilim. (And what is so evil about LEARNING added DETAILS such as the DEMONS referred to in the New Testament as being the evil spirits of the nephilim which agrees with what Moses teaches us in Genesis 6:2. These so-called added details in a negative sense by this Trinitarian Christians actually ENDS controversies between Christians. For you see, there is a controversy among Christians as to where did the evil spirits and demons come from? And the Book of Enoch clearly teaches us that the evil spirits called demons are the disembodied spirits of the giants spoken of by Moses in Genesis 6:1-4. The book of Enoch ALSO ends the controversy between Christians as to who the sons of God are in Genesis 6:2. Some Christians argue that the sons of God are of the seed of Cain who murdered his brother Abel. Other Christians argue that the sons of God were survivors of the pre-academic race of humanoid-like species of being. And Christians like myself teach that the sons of God are the fallen angels WITHOUT using the Book of Enoch. And if we do use quotes from the Book of Enoch, then those quotes simply add support to what the Bible itself teaches) It contains descriptions of Sheol and the “underworld,” (Which AGREES with what Jesus himself teaches in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31. Have you ever wondered WHICH Scripture Jesus read to learn about the divisions in hell? For you see, this was before Jesus descended into hell. So then, it may well be that Jesus is quoting from the book of Enoch, but not word for word)... ...Is there any chance that some of the knowledge found in 1 Enoch, particularly about the archangels and the source of the nephilim is in fact true? It is hard to judge, as the inspiration of this collection of writings is very dubious. (In other words, it is hard for some Christians to judge whether or not the book of 1 Enoch was INSPIRED by God. Simply read the book of 1 Enoch for yourself) I would say that it is best to read the Book of Enoch, understand its role in forming Jewish and even Christian thought, and to leave it at that. We should not do what the early church did, which is to allow it to influence our view of God.” Here in the last sentence of the above article I quoted from this Trinitarian article, you can see the REASON that this Trinitarian Christian is against the Book of 1 Enoch being INSPIRED Scripture. And that reason is because the book of 1 Enoch INFLUENCES our view of God. And it seems that this particular Christian who is against the Book of 1 Enoch may also be against the “teaching” that the sons of God in Genesis 6:2 are the “fallen angels”. For you see, he asks the question to raise DOUBT saying, Is there a CHANCE that the KNOWLEDGE found in Enoch is not true “particularly” with what Enoch teaches about the angels and the nephilim. So to ME, he is against Enoch because the Book of Enoch proves his preconceived belief about the sons of God and his views of God and His Son are in ERROR. In other words, the book of 1 Enoch proves that the sons of God in Genesis 6:2 are the fallen angels and NOT the offspring of Cain. And thus, the book of 1 Enoch ENDS that particular controversy among Christians as to who the sons of God are in Genesis 6:2. And the book of 1 Enoch ALSO proves that the Son of God did NOT LITERALLY pre-exist in the eternity past as the Trinitarian Christians CLAIM and dogmatically demand must be believed in order to be saved. In other words, the Book of 1 Enoch ENDS the controversy on who Jesus truly is in relation to Almighty God the Father. And thus, the Book of 1 Enoch ENDS the controversy on whether or not Jesus was DEITY DURING the days of his FLESH. To say this another way, the book of 1 Enoch agrees with and adds SUPPORT to what the Bible ITSELF actually teaches us in the LIGHT of the whole word of Almighty God. Now, the only other Trinitarian argument that I have heard is that if Enoch wrote down what God revealed to him while WALKING with God, then it could NOT have survived the FLOOD in Noah’s day. And thus, those Trinitarian Christians argue that the prophecies of Enoch must have ONLY been handed down ORALLY from generation to generation until the Jews finally wrote the oral tradition down sometime during the silence of the prophets from Malachi to the time of the ministry of Jesus and John the Baptist. And then the Trinitarian Christians concluded that ORAL tradition cannot be trusted because we all know how things change when handed down orally. So then, let us examine this Trinitarian CLAIM that Enoch himself did not write the Book of Enoch by using a quote from the Book of 1 Enoch in chapter 81. Keep in mind that 2 Enoch and 3 Enoch are believed to be forgeries because certain verses of Scripture have been ALTERED or tampered with to support the doctrine of the Trinity. In other words, all three books of Enoch are TRANSLATIONS from the copies of manuscripts the same as the rest of the Bible itself is translated from COPIES of the original manuscripts. And since 2 Enoch and 3 Enoch DIFFER in SOME places, particularly in places where only Enoch 2, and 3 are translated differently to support the doctrine of the Trinity, then DOUBT can then be argued against 1 Enoch as also being a pseudo-writing in the first century. But that argument is based solely on the SPECULATION that the manuscripts are forgeries. Here is a quote from 1 Enoch 82:1. The emphasis is mine. 1 Enoch 82:1. “And now, my son Methuselah, all these things I am recounting to you and WRITING DOWN for you! And I have revealed to you everything, and given these books concerning all these: so preserve, my son Methuselah, the books from your father's hand, and (see) that you deliver them to the generations of the world.” So to argue that Enoch did not write down the Book of Enoch is like arguing that the Apostle John did NOT write down the Book of Revelation. The Apostle John WROTE in the Book of Revelation that he was told to WRITE down what he saw and heard, and we all believe what John SAID he wrote. So why do some Christians DOUBT Enoch when he SAID he wrote down what he saw and heard from God in BOOKS that he said he gave to to his son Methuselah to PRESERVE? It is not a stretch to believe that Methuselah handed down those BOOKS or manuscripts to Lamech who then handed those manuscripts down to his son Noah. And then, Noah took the manuscripts on the Ark to PRESERVE the writings of his great grandfather Enoch that he saw and heard from God. In other words, you ALREADY believe that what Enoch saw and heard from God was handed down ORALLY, so why are some Christians so AGAINST Enoch writing DOWN what he saw and heard from God? We will cover that “fear and doubt” concerning reading the book of Enoch in more detail in part two of this study in God’s word. But for now, let us look at some more sound Biblical evidence, that, to ME, proves that 1 Enoch is SCRIPTURE translated from copies of the original manuscript that Enoch gave to Methuselah to PRESERVE for future generations. For you see, we have no “original” manuscripts for ANY of the Bible. But rather, all we have are COPIES of the original manuscripts. And some books that were read more frequently seem to have more copies that were preserved than the copies from other books. Here are some points to ponder and truly consider. Point to ponder #1. According to Genesis Almighty God does not bring judgment unless God warns His people first so that they can warn others. Please read Genesis 18:17. “And the LORD said, Shall I HIDE from Abraham that thing which I do;” And thus, it is logical for God to have warned Enoch and NOT HIDE the coming judgment of the FLOOD in the days of Noah called the DELUGE by some Christians. So guess what, God warned Enoch about the coming judgment of the deluge in the days of Noah. And Enoch, the SCRIBE of righteousness, wrote down those visions in books and gave those books to his son Methuselah to PRESERVE and give to future generations. Point to ponder #2. According to the words of those who are AGAINST the book of 1 Enoch as being Scripture, WHY would the Jews make this stuff up? I mean what would be the point of the Jews writing a so-called fable and claim that it was written by Enoch? That argument makes no sense when the Jews quoted Enoch as being Scripture. I mean why would they quote a fable? Point to ponder #3. According to the words of Jesus in John 8:56, Abraham REJOICED to SEE the day of Jesus. And Abraham knowing and rejoicing about the Messiah was long before God called Moses to lead the children out of the land of Egypt. So then, according to Galatians 3:16,17, it was 430 years after God revealed to Abraham the promises of God in the New Covenant would be through the SEED of Abraham’s son Isaac. And according to Genesis 25:7, Abraham died at the age of 175 years of age. Abraham was 99 when Isaac was born and Isaac was 13 when Abraham obeyed God to offer up his only son Isaac. And that is when the covenant of PROMISE was confirmed, according to Galatians 3:16,17. So no matter how you do the math, Abraham died long before Moses was ever born. And that raises the question of HOW did Abraham KNOW and rejoice SEEING the day of the Messiah if NONE of the Scriptures had supposedly never been written down before the time of Moses. Remember Jesus saying to the Jews that they erred not knowing the SCRIPTURES concerning the angels not being given in marriage. Well, nothing like those words of Jesus in Matthew can be found in the 39 “accepted” books of the Old Testament Scripture. But those words CAN be found in the Book of 1 Enoch, which we already covered at the beginning of this study. Point to ponder #4. According to what is written in the book of Genesis, HOW did the writer of the book of Genesis KNOW the account of the recreating of the earth and the REPLENISHING of the earth to be inhabited once again? And HOW did the writer of Genesis KNOW all of the genealogies in such DETAIL if they had never been WRITTEN down as some Christians CLAIM? Who is able to remember all those DETAILS of names and ages, places of birth and so forth if those details were never written down before the time of Moses? That is harder to believe than Enoch never writing down a single word God revealed to him just so Christians will not be INFLUENCED by the book of 1 Enoch as to who God is in relation to the Son of MAN that Enoch writes about. Point to ponder #5. According to the writers of the New Testament who refer to things that are NOT found in the so-called “accepted” 39 books of the Old Testament, but they ARE found in the book of 1 Enoch. Here are just a few of those quotes from the book of 1 Enoch that are very similar to the words written in both the Old and the New Testament. Let us begin with an Old Testament passage of Scripture found in Daniel 7:9-22. I will add the quotes from the Scripture in the book of 1 Enoch in parentheses so you can see them side by side of the Scriptures in the book of Daniel. Daniel 7:9-22. “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. (1 Enoch 46:1. And there I saw One who had a head of days, [Or the Ancient of days] And His head was white like wool,...) 10. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. 11. I then beheld because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. 12. As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. 13. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came WITH the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. A(1 Enoch 46:1 continues to say, “...and WITH Him was another BEING whose countenance had the appearance of a MAN, And his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels. 2) And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that 3) Son of Man, who he was, and whence he was, (and) why he went WITH the Head of Days? [Or why the Son of MAN was WITH the Ancient of day who we know is Almighty God Himself] And he answered and said unto me: This is the son of Man who hath righteousness, with whom dwelleth righteousness, and who reveals all the treasures of that which is hidden. Because the Lord of Spirits has chosen him, and whose lot has the pre-eminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness for ever. 4) And this Son of Man whom you have seen shall raise up the kings and the mighty from their seats, [And the strong from their thrones] And shall loosen the reins of the strong, And break the teeth of the sinners. 5) [And he shall put down the kings from their thrones and kingdoms] Because they do not extol and praise Him, nor humbly acknowledge whence the kingdom was bestowed upon them. 6) And he shall put down the countenance of the strong, and shall fill them with shame) 14. And there was GIVEN to him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. 15. I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me. 16. I came near one of them that stood by, and asked him the TRUTH of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things. 17. These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. 18. But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever. 19. Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet; 20. And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other (Little horn) which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. 21. I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; 22. Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; (What some Christians have failed to see is that Almighty God Yahweh is coming WITH His now glorified Son of MAN, Jesus whom He MADE Lord after the cross and resurrection to become His FIRST BORN Son. Hebrews 1:6, 1 Peter 3:22, Psalm 89:3,16-29, and Revelation 19:14-16 teaches us that God will BRING His firstborn whom He EXALTED to be His King of kings into the world at the second coming of Jesus to be worshiped by the angels) and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.” Now, it is claimed by some Christians that 1 Enoch is a forgery made by the Jews in the first century. But if that is the case, then why does the book of Daniel have details that the book of 1 Enoch does not have and the book of 1 Enoch has details that the book of Daniel does not have? I mean a forgery would have as many DETAILS as possible to make it appear real. But INSPIRED Scripture by God hides a little here and a little there, according to Isaiah 28:9-18. Let us now compare 1 Enoch chapter 48 and verses 1-7 with what the Scriptures teach us to see if Enoch agrees with Scripture or contradicts Scripture as some CLAIM. Here is 1 Enoch XLVIII. The Fount of Righteousness: the Son of Man -the Stay of the Righteous: Judgment of the Kings and the Mighty. Again, the emphasis and comment in parentheses are mine. Also, I changed the “old English” to modern English. 1 Enoch 48:1-7. “And in that place I saw the fountain of righteousness, (The Son of MAN, Jesus, who is the END of the law for RIGHTEOUS, according to Romans 10:4) which was inexhaustible: (According to Revelation 7:17 and John 4:14) And around it were many fountains of wisdom: (And he who finds wisdom which is a personification or figure of Jesus finds LIFE, according to Proverbs 8:35) And all the thirsty drank of them, and were filled with wisdom. (And we have that same living water flowing out of us to give to all who THIRST, according to John 7:37,38) And their dwellings were with the righteous and holy and elect. 2) And at that hour that Son of Man was NAMED in the presence of the Lord of Spirits. And his name before the Head of Days. (Or the Ancient of days in other translations. Also, God is the HEAD of Jesus, according to 1 Corinthians 11:3) 3) Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of heaven were made, his name was named before the Lord of Spirits. (Compare with Ephesians 1:4. “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:”) 4) He (The Son of MAN) shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall. And he shall be the light of the Gentiles. And the hope of those who are troubled of heart. (Compare with Isaiah 42:1-6. I will only quote verse 6. “I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;”) 5) All who dwell on earth shall fall down and worship before him, and will praise and bless and celebrate with song the Lord of Spirits. (Compare with Hebrews 1:6 and Philippians 2:8-11) 6) And for this reason has he been chosen and hidden before Him, before the creation of the world and for evermore. 7) And the wisdom of the Lord of Spirits has revealed him to the holy and righteous; For He has preserved the lot of the righteous, because they have hated and despised this world of unrighteousness. And have hated all its works and ways in the name of the Lord of Spirits: For in his name they are saved, (Compare with Acts 4:10-12 where no other NAME has been given among men whereby we MUST be saved) And according to His good pleasure (Compare with Ephesians 1:5-9) has it been in regard to their life.” So then, HOW does the book of 1 Enoch AGREEING with and supporting what the Bible ITSELF teaches us make the book of Enoch to NOT be Scripture?
