DID GOD SEND JESUS FROM HEAVEN?

WAS JESUS SENT FROM HEAVEN?

Did God send his Son down from out of heaven down to the earth INTO the world to become flesh?

Or did God send his human Son who was born of a Virgin into the world after God ANOINTED the Son of man?

In other words, the purpose of this study in God's word it to determine if God sent his PRE-EXISTING Son down from out of heaven to be incarnated into flesh?

Most all of the controversial verses that seem to be saying that Jesus was sent down for out of heaven INTO the earth are found in the gospel of John so I will use those verses seeing that that four gospels are teaching the same Jesus being SENT. In other words, what we conclude from the gospel of John will be found to be the same in the other three gospels.

Let us begin this study in God’s word by looking at the Greeks words that are translated as the English word “sent” in the King James Bible and some other translations as well so you can see that there are more meaning to these Greek words other than just the English word “SENT”.

Please read John 3:17.

“For God SENT  (Strong’s #649) not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

Now some Christians INTERPRET this verse to mean that God SENT down his pre-existent Son from out of heaven INTO the world.

But this interpretation can not come from the meaning of the English word “SENT” or from the meaning of the Greek root word “apostello” Strong's #649 because this same Greek word is used many times in the New Testament speaking of other men being sent and it is clear that they are NOT being sent down from heaven into the world.

Please read John 1:6.

“There was a man SENT (Strong’s #649) from God, whose name was John.”

You see if one interprets John 3:17 to mean that God SENT his Son down from heaven INTO the world then they must be consistent in interpreting the word SENT in John 1:6 as God sent the man named John down from heaven into the world as well.

Some may argue that John 3:17 says INTO the world and we already know and understand that John the Baptist was BORN into this world.

John 16:21.

“A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is BORN INTO the world.”

Therefore John was sent OUT into the world and not sent down from heaven into the world.

So then, HOW did Jesus come INTO the world? Was Jesus BORN INTO the world of a woman? Or did God send his “pre-existent” Son down from heaven INTO the world? Does John 1:14 say, And the Son was made flesh? No, it does not. So then why dogmatically demand and teach that the God the Son became flesh or that Jesus is God incarnate inferring that it is God the Son the second person of the Trinity who became flesh when the clear plain and simple word of truth says that the word was made flesh? Please read the study “WHAT DOES JOHN 1:14 TRULY MEAN?” but for now let us see what Jesus teaches us about being SENT.

Please read John 17:16-25.

They are not of the world, EVEN AS I am not of the world. (so then, if one INTERPRETS that Jesus is NOT OF this world because he was sent down from heaven into the world then they must be consistent and say they we are sent down from heaven as well in order to NOT be OF this world.)

17.  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18.  AS you have SENT (Strong’s #649)  me INTO the world, EVEN SO have I ALSO SENT (Strong’s #649)  them INTO the world.  (so the SAME way that God SENT his Son INTO the world is the SAME way that Jesus sent his disciples INTO the world. In Luke 24:49 and in Acts 1:4,5 Jesus said to his disciple to REMAIN in Jerusalem and to NOT go into the world until they were ENDUED with POWER from on high. So Jesus SENT them out into the world AFTER they were ANOINTED or filled with the Holy Spirit and power from on high. And this is how God SENT his Son Jesus INTO the world to preach the gospel and to suffer and die on the cross for the sins of the world. God ANOINTED the Son of MAN Jesus with the Holy Spirit and with POWER from on high at his baptism in the river Jordan by John the Baptist. All that Jesu did he did THROUGH the eternal Spirit dwelling in him. In a moment you will see that the Greek word translated as sent also mean to COMMISSION.)

19.  And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20.  Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21.  That they all may be ONE; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they ALSO may be ONE in us: that the world may believe that you have SENT (Strong’s #649) me.

22.  And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be ONE, EVEN AS we are one:

23.  I in them, and you in me, that they may be made PERFECT in one; and that the world may know that you have SENT (Strong’s #649) me, and has loved them, AS you have loved me.

24.  Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world. (Is it possible to love someone before they are born? Do not expecting parents love their yet unborn child?)

25.  O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have SENT (Strong’s #649) me.”

The truth of the matter is that Jesus was BORN INTO the world as the Son of MAN and THEN the Son of MAN BECAME the eternal Son of God after the cross. Please read the study “WHEN DID JESUS BECOME THE ETERNAL SON OF GOD?”.

John 18:37.

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. To this end was I BORN, and for this cause came I INTO the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth hears my voice.”

Jesus was BORN the King of the Jews.

Matthew 2:2.

“Saying, Where is he that is BORN King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”

The LITERAL reading of the Greek word “ Strong’s #649 apestellas or apostello which is where we get the word apostle” is translated as COMMISSION. The word “commission” means to give power and authority to someone to accomplish the task that they are given to do. God commissioned the Son of man Jesus at his baptism by John the Baptist. This is when the Spirit of God descended from heaven to REMAIN upon Jesus.

In Acts 10:38 we rad where God ANOINTED Jesus with his Holy Spirit and with power and then Jesus went about doing good healing all who were oppressed of the devil. Jesus did not begin his ministry until AFTER the Holy Spirit came upon him to remain and this took place at his baptism in the river Jordan.

Acts 10:38.

“How God ANOINTED Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; FOR (or BECAUSE) God was WITH him.”

The other Greek word translated as SENT in the past tense actually denotes motion, as in the present tense of SENDING. It is the Strong’s #3992 the Greek root word “PEMPO” and the LITERAL reads as SENDING or the one sending in most places. Jesus followed the leading of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him to go and do what the Father was sending him to do. The above link will take you to the online literal translation of John chapter 5.

Here is John 5: from the King James Version.

For the Father judges no man, but has COMMITTED all judgment unto the Son:

23.  That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honors not the Father which has SENT (Strong’s #3992 and in the literal reads one SENDING) him.

24.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that SENT (Strong’s #3992 and in the literal reads one SENDING) me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

25.  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

26.  For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself;

27.  And has given him authority to execute judgment also, BECAUSE he is the Son of MAN.

28.  Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29.  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

30.  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which has SENT (Strong’s #3992 and in the literal reads one SENDING) me.”

And when we read where God SENT John the Baptist to baptize with water in John 1:33 this same Greek word Strong’s number 3992 is used.

John 1:33.

“And I knew him not: but he that  SENT (Strong’s #3992 and in the literal reads one SENDING) me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.”

This is when Jesus was ANOINTED with POWER from on high by Almighty God the Father the eternal Spirit and THEN sent Jesus into the world to preach the kingdom of God is at hand.

So then, it was WHAT God sent down from heaven into the world as opposed to WHO God sent from heaven. You see, the Bible itself teaches us that God sent his angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary with a MESSAGE to give to her. It was the word spoken out from God’s mouth to the angel Gabriel’s ear that was sent down from heaven by way of God’s messenger the angel Gabriel who then spoke God’s word to the Virgin Mary. And when Mary said be it done according to your word then the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and the spoken word of Almighty God that came froth out from his mouth became flesh in the womb of Mary to be born as the Son of MAN.

So then, the interpreted meaning of the word “sent” as being sent down out of heaven must be READ INTO the text because neither the context nor the meanings of either Greek word itself means being sent down from heaven. At the end of this study I will leave a link to a list of in depth Bible studies on all the verses that SEEM to be saying that Jesus pre-existed in eternity past and God sent his pre-existing Son down from heaven.

The following verses are the rest of the verses found in the gospel of John with the English word “SENT” in them. Those highlighted in yellow are translated from Strong’s #649 and those highlighted in green are translated form Strong’s #3992. And the one in tan is not found in the Greek text. You can clearly see that the same Greeks words are used for everyone who is being sent and we know that they are not being sent down from heaven.

“He was not that Light, but was sent (not in the Greek text) to bear witness of that Light.”
