D-21. TRUE MEANING of Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8! DOWNLOAD to SAVE as a PDF Doc to read OFFLINE. D-21. TRUE MEANING of Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8! These two verses are used to try and prove that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh having TWO natures at the SAME time during the days of his FLESH, one divine and one human. And the Christians who teach that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh use the line of reasoning that since Jesus himself said to Satan to worship God and Him ONLY you shall serve, then that means to THEM that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh. Now, I have an in-depth version of this study called D-7. SHOULD WE WORSHIP JESUS?, but I felt led to make a much shorter version. I do suggest that you also read that longer version because I cover a lot of points that I do not bring up in this shorter summarized version. Let me begin by saying that the morning after editing the spelling errors in that longer study the Holy Spirit woke me up with Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8 on my mind. The Holy Spirit prompted me to read those verses of Scripture again because they are NOT saying what the Pentecostal Oneness Christians and the Trinitarian Christians have “INTERPRETED” them to mean. So let me quote both verses first without any comment or emphasis, and then I will quote them again with my comments and emphasis. Matthew 4:10. “Then Jesus said unto him, Get you hence, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.” Luke 4:8. “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get you behind me, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.” Now since both verses are saying the same thing, I am only going to re-quote Luke 4:8 with my comments and emphasis. Luke 4:8. “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get you behind me, Satan: for it is written, You shall WORSHIP (Strong’s number G4352) the Lord your God, and Him ONLY shall you SERVE (Strong’s number G3000).” Notice that Jesus did NOT say to Satan, “You shall ONLY worship the Lord your God”, which is the way that both Oneness Pentecostal Christians and Trinitarian Christians “INTERPRET” this verse of Scripture. The word “ONLY” is NOT before the word “WORSHIP”. But rather, the word “only” is in the second clause of this sentence referring to SERVE only him, which refers back to the Lord your God. And the words, “Lord God” together like the phrase, “the Lord your God” always refer to Almighty God the FATHER. For you see, it was Almighty God the Father who MADE Jesus Lord after the cross, according to Acts 2:36 and Romans 4:9. And that is when Jesus came to BEGIN in the FORM of God by being GIVEN all power and authority after the cross FROM his God and Father, according to Matthew 28:17, John 17:2, Romans 1:3,4, Ephesians 1:20-22, Revelation 5:12, and many prophecies in the Old Testament. So then, just to be clear, Jesus was telling Satan that he would not bow and worship him, because it is written in God’s word to WORSHIP Almighty God the Father, and to ONLY SERVE Almighty God the Father. And we know that this is the true sound Biblical interpretation of Luke 4:8, because Jesus uses the SAME Greek word WORSHIP with Strong’s number G4352 in Revelation 3:9. So let us go ahead and read that verse of Scripture. Revelation 3:9. “Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and WORSHIP (Strong’s number G4352, the SAME Greek word that Jesus used in Luke 4:8 telling Satan to WORSHIP the Lord God. But yet here in this verse of Scripture Jesus is going to make MEN to come and WORSHIP at OUR feet. Or) before YOUR feet, and to know that I have loved you.” Now, we all agree that Jesus would never CONTRADICT himself. And thus, Jesus never INTENDED his words in Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8 to mean that worship is to be given ONLY to Almighty God the Father ALONE. For if he did, then Jesus would be a liar by turning around to make MEN worship MEN in the world to come. And I do not believe that Jesus is a liar. Therefore, the INTERPRETATION of Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8 must be the LIE that Satan DECEIVED Trinitarian and Oneness Pentecostal Christians to wrongly believe. I mean why would Jesus contradict himself to say the exact opposite if Jesus TRULY INTENDED his words in Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8 to mean ONLY worship Almighty God ALONE? Now, to me, Jesus intended his words to mean to only SERVE God and NOT to WORSHIP ONLY God. For you see, TWO DIFFERENT Greek words are being used. So the focus should be on the Greek word G3000 that is translated as SERVE in the King James Version of the Bible. I did my own study where I read all of the verses having the Greek word “latreuo”, Strong’s number G3000 in those verses of Scripture. But to keep this study short as possible I will summarize what I found and leave it to you to double check my findings. So then, what I found is that there are no verses of Scripture that have the Greek word “latreuo”, Strong’s number G3000, in them that refer to Jesus. And almost all of them refer to SERVING Almighty God the Father. And the verses that do NOT refer to serving the Father are as follows. Acts 7:41-43. Romans 1:25. Hebrew 8:5. Hebrews 9:9. Hebrews 13:10. And that only leaves Revelation 22:3, which could be TWISTED to mean that the Lamb is one and the self-same being as Almighty God the Father Himself. So let us go ahead and read that verse out of its context first. Revelation 22:3. “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall SERVE (Strong’s G3000) him:” Now, since some Christians believe that Jesus is Almighty God Himself, then they could wrongly “interpret” the pronoun “him” to be referring to BOTH Almighty God the Father and the Lamb. But the pronoun “him” is SINGULAR. So in order for this verse to mean BOTH God and His Lamb then the Lamb would have to be one and the SELF-SAME BEING as Almighty God the FATHER. And thus, only the Oneness Pentecostal Christians can twist this verse to fit their theology that Jesus is the Father Himself as a manifestation of Almighty God the Father. And that is why we need to keep the verses we are interpreting in their CONTEXT. So let us read the very next verse, which teaches us that “his” NAME shall be in their foreheads. Revelation 22:4. “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.” So then, the pronoun “his” is still SINGULAR and all we know for sure is that “his name” must either be the name of Almighty God the Father or the name of the Lamb. Therefore, to be absolutely sure who the pronoun “him” is referring to that we are to SERVE, then we need to COMPARE Scripture with Scripture. So I did a word search on “name” and “foreheads” and one other verse of Scripture has both of those words in it. So let us read Revelation 14:1 where we see the Lamb with 144,000 followers with the FATHER’S NAME in their foreheads. Please read Revelation 14:1. “And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.” So to me, the pronouns “him” and “his” in Revelation 22:3,4 definitely refer back to Almighty God the Father as the one who we are to SERVE. Also, Jesus said that he would write the NAME of his God on those who OVERCOME the world. And the God OF Jesus is the FATHER. Please read Revelation 3:12. “Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the NAME of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my NEW name.” Please notice that Almighty God the Father is the God OF Jesus. So then, the rock solid TRUTH is taught to us all through the New Testament that Jesus was made to become a God under and subject to his God and Father. And to me, it is impossible for two separate persons or beings to BOTH be the ONLY TRUE God called the ALMIGHTY and the HIGHEST God. For you see, how can an ALMIGHTY God who is the HIGHEST God have another God OVER Him? Now, we all can easily understand how TWO separate beings or persons can have the SAME NAME and also have the SAME TITLE like the title “King”. We as humans sometimes give the son the same NAME as the Father. And even an earthly king might give the authority to his son to rule over his kingdom. And thus, the people would honor the son as their king knowing that his father GAVE him the authority to rule FOR his father in the NAME of his father. And we would never say that the father is the son and the son is the father. We would understand that two people are in AGREEMENT with each other and that they are NOT the SAME king. For you see, we understand the word or name king is just a TITLE. The Father is the Eternal King who MADE His human Son to become a King over the kings of the earth. But what some Christians failed to see or even REFUSE to accept is that the word “God” is also simply a TITLE that many beings can have. But that does not make them all be ONE and the self-same God. The Father ALONE is the HIGHEST God over all those that He Himself SET to be Gods over different parts of His creation. They are NOT false idol gods, but rather, Yahweh MADE or gave them the TITLE of Gods. So then, just because Jesus was MADE a God under and subject to his God and Father does NOT mean that Jesus is the SAME God. It only means that Jesus was GIVEN the power and the authority to rule FOR his God and Father in his Father’s NAME for ONLY 1000 years. And then, after the 1000 year reign of Jesus comes to an END, so does his authority and power to rule only over the earth comes to an END as well. Please see 1 Corinthians 15:20-28 and Micah 4:6-8 on your own. Now, if you desire more sound Biblical evidence that WORSHIPING Jesus does NOT prove that Jesus MUST be Almighty God Himself in the flesh having two natures at the SAME time DURING the days of his FLESH, one divine, and one human, then please read the in-depth version of this study called D-7. SHOULD WE WORSHIP JESUS? For you see, Biblical Unitarian Christians are wrongly being accused of worshiping a FALSE Jesus by those who sincerely believe that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh. In other words, to Trinitarian Christians, Jesus is a FALSE God IF Jesus is NOT Almighty God Himself in the flesh. But we, who know and understand the TRUTH, know that worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ, who Almighty God the Father MADE Lord after the cross, is giving all of the glory to Almighty God the Father. We know and understand that when we SERVE Jesus, then we are SERVING the Father’s WILL to HONOR His Son even as we honor the Father. And we know and understand that when we OBEY Jesus, we are OBEYING the Father’s commandments that He Himself put into the mouth of His Prophet, Jesus, to teach to us. We do not place Jesus ABOVE the Father, nor do we worship Jesus APART from the Father, which is what the commandment, “Do not have any Gods BEFORE me” actually means. Please read Exodus 20:3. “You shall have no other gods BEFORE me.” And here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines this Hebrew word translated as BEFORE. H5921 ‛al al Properly the same as H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural, often with prefix, or as conjugation with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications: - above, according to (-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, X as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, X both and, by (reason of), X had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through (-out), to, touching, X with. Total KJV occurrences: 5683. And we all know that Jesus is not AGAINST his God and Father. Jesus is not ABOVE his God and Father. And Jesus did not even think to be OVER or even EQUAL to his God and Father as Lucifer did. And thus, Biblical Unitarian Christians are not worshiping a false God just because SOME Trinitarian Christians CLAIM that we are. We believe that the Father alone is the ONLY TRUE God in ONE person and that Jesus was COMMISSIONED by his God and Father to become a God under and subject to his God and Father. Now, Trinitarian Christians like to use the argument that the opposite of TRUE is FALSE. And, therefore, when Biblical Unitarian Christians say that Jesus is not the TRUE God, then THEY argue that Jesus MUST be a FALSE God. But that is simply a “straw-man” argument and it does not prove that Jesus is a FALSE God. And neither does it prove that Jesus is the ONLY TRUE God. For you see, Jesus himself clearly identifies the FATHER as being the ONLY TRUE God in John 17:1-3. And the word “ONLY” means ONLY. Jesus is NOT the FATHER and the FATHER is the ONLY true God, according to the very words of Jesus himself. Please read John 17:1-3. “These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You: 2. As You have GIVEN him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as You have GIVEN him. 3. And THIS is life eternal, that they might know YOU the ONLY TRUE God, AND Jesus Christ, whom YOU have sent.” It does NOT say that they may know you and Jesus Christ are the only true God. Jesus calls the Father his God. The Apostles of Jesus call the Father the God OF Jesus. Jesus said that we who believe may know YOU, speaking of the FATHER, as the ONLY true God. And that we also may know that God COMMISIONED Jesus. And by believing BOTH of these things we might have ETERNAL LIFE. Also, the Apostles of Jesus said, to us there is but ONE God, even the FATHER, and one Lord Jesus anointed. So to us, as Biblical Unitarian Christians, there is but ONE God in ONE person who alone is the Father and one Lord in ONE person who is Jesus anointed, the Son OF the living God that God MADE Lord AFTER the cross. We know and understand that the word “God” is just a NAME or TITLE that more than just one being can have. Satan is called “god” and we know that Satan is not the SAME God as the Father. Lucifer was once a good God over the earth before he rebelled and made WAR AGAINST God desiring in his heart to be worshiped as Almighty God Himself. So why is it so hard for some Christians to see that Jesus is NOT the SAME God as his God and Father? For you see, it is PROPHESIED in Isaiah 9:6,7, that the child foretold to be BORN and the son GIVEN to die on the cross would be GIVEN the NAME Mighty God. And the PROPHECY says that WHEN the GOVERNMENT shall be laid upon his shoulder his NAME shall be called the Mighty God, the Prince of peace, and the father of eternal life. Can you not see that God GAVE His human Son the power and the authority to give eternal life to those that the Father GIVES to Jesus, according to John 17:2, which we just read? And in Isaiah 9:7, we see that it is Yahweh Himself who PERFORMS His own word of PROPHECY to bring it to pass. And that teaches us in simplicity that Jesus is the WORKMANSHIP of his God and Father, Yahweh, the Creator of His Son Jesus. So then, I conclude that Matthew 4:10 and Luke 4:8 do NOT prove that Jesus is Almighty God Himself in the flesh. And for me, I will worship Jesus to the glory of the Father because he is WORTHY to be worshiped, praised, honored, and given THANKS to for what our brother did for us on the cross.
