The Seventh Day Adventist Church firmly believes that the END of the 2300 days prophesied in Daniel 8:14 ended on October 22, 1844. Let us read Daniel 8:14 out of its context and then we will take a close look at the Seventh Day Adventist Church interpretation as to WHY the date of October 22, 1844 that was ORIGINALLY the day that Jesus would return was changed to now mean that Jesus entered into the Heavenly Sanctuary to start a new ministry of the Investigative Judgment. I will use the abbreviation SDA Church for the remainder of this study in God’s word. Daniel 8:14. “And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Now, please understand that BEFORE the date of October 22, 1844 actually arrived every single Adventist Christian believed that Jesus would come VISIBLY in clouds of glory to take them to heaven. But when that did not happen some Adventist Christians, if not most of them, simply accepted the fact that the calculations were wrong or the leaders of the church incorrectly interpreted Daniel 8:13,14. So WHY did some of the Adventist Christians CHANGE the meaning of the end of the 2300 days from being the coming of Jesus to NOW mean that Jesus entered into another phase of his ministry to investigate the WORKS of Christians? To ME, the context of Daniel 8:14 is blatantly clear that WITHIN the 2300 days Jesus WILL return. Now, it may not be at the END of the 2300 days but Jesus MUST return at some point in time WITHIN the 2300 days. There is no getting around this sound Biblical truth found in the CONTEXT of Daniel 8:13,14. I only quoted verse 14 first because the SDA Church focuses so intently on the one phrase “...then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” that they blind their eyes of understanding to the TRUE SOUND Biblical meaning of this passage of Scripture. Let us go ahead and read Daniel 8:13,14, which again, is still being taken OUT of its CONTEXT by focusing ONLY on these two verses. Daniel 8:13,14. “Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14. And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Now, BEFORE the great disappointment of Jesus not coming on October 22, 1844, there was NO Seventh Day Adventist Church as the SDA Christians know today. There was NO doctrine of the Investigative Judgment of Jesus and the Cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary as yet. There were only Christians who were interested in prophecies to see if they could calculate the very DAY of the coming of Jesus. And back THEN they used the whole context of verses 13 and 14 by looking at the whole chapter 8 of Daniel. I will just quote Daniel 8:8-27 for now. And I will only emphasis a few key points that will help us learn the true sound Biblical meaning of the 2300 days of Daniels vision. The words and pronouns that I highlight in green are referring to the antichrist at the end of this present world right before the COMING of Jesus. And the words and pronouns that I highlight in blue are referring to Jesus at both his first coming and at his return to rule during the millennial reign of Jesus in the world to come. Daniel 8:8-27. “Therefore, the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven. 9. And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land. 10. And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. 11. Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. 12. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it (The army given to the little horn final antichrist and that army) cast down the truth to the ground; and it practiced, and prospered. 13. Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spoke, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14. And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. 15. And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. 16. And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision. 17. So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision. 18. Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright. 19. And he said, Behold, I will make you know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be. 20. The ram which thou sawest having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia. 21. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. 22. Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power. 23. And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. 24. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. (Was ANY of this happening in 1844? World War 1 did not start until 1914. The American Civil War did not start until 1861. And the church was in the midst of a great revival. So no matter HOW the Adventist Christians calculated the 2300 days of Daniel’s vision, they obviously paid no mind to the CONTEXT. It is blatantly clear the Jesus MUST return somewhere WITHIN the 2300 days. Or at the very least, Jesus must come at the end of the 2300 days. And since that did NOT happen in 1844 then it is IMPOSSIBLE for the 2300 days to have ENDED on October 22, 1844 no matter how sure one sincerely believes that the calculations were accurate. So then, the SDA Church is WRONG about the 2300 days ENDING on October 22, 1844. The 2300 days is IMPOSSIBLE to END without Jesus literally coming visibly FIRST) 25. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. 26. And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. 27. And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.” Now, some Christians stop right here but the CONTEXT continues on into the next chapter. And that means the 70 weeks of Daniel prophecy go hand in hand WITH the 2300 day prophecy. In other words, the 70 weeks, the MIDST of the 70th week, and the 2300 days are COUPLED together to form a CHAIN to the VERY end at the end of the 1000 year reign of Jesus. To me, this is the only way that I myself can see ALL of the details of prophecy fit. I will explain what I mean by this further on in this study. But first, let us read some MORE context of Daniel 8:13,14 in the next chapter. So let us read Daniel 9:21-27. “Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. 22. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give you skill and understanding. 23. At the beginning of your supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to show you; (Show Daniel WHAT? The meaning of the vision of the 2300 days that Daniel did NOT understand) for you are greatly beloved: therefore, understand the matter, (Or the WHOLE matter) and consider the vision. (WHAT vision? The vision that Daniel had in chapter 8 concerning the 2300 days, And the following verses of Scripture are MORE insight to the TRUE sound Biblical meaning of Daniel 8:13,14 are how the 70 weeks fit together with the 2300 days) 24. Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to FINISH the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. (Now, to ME, since the Hebrew word translated as “seal up” means to make and END and STOP PROPHECY, then that tells me that the 2300 days INCLUDE the 1000 year reign of Jesus, the little season after the 1000 years has ended, and the final Day of Judgment along with the destruction of Satan, the fallen angels and all the unsaved in the lake of fire, Yes, this is new to me as well. I have been teaching in the past that the 2300 ends at the coming of Jesus before the 1000 year reign of Jesus. And almost all prophecy teachers have been trying to fit ALL the prophecies of Daniel to be WITHIN the 2300 days. But what IF SOME of the 70 weeks are fulfilled BEFORE the 2300 days actually begin? Again, I will explain a little bit more of what I mean by this shortly) 25. Know, therefore, and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 26. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince (The little horn antichrist system before the final antichrist king of fierce continence stands up) that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. (What weapon of war will make Jerusalem a DESOLATION?) 27. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and IN the midst of the week (And to ME, the midst of the week BEGAN when God turned the gospel of salvation to the Gentiles. Please read the study J-32. WHEN is the MIDST of the 70TH WEEK?) he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Now, IF I am seeing things correctly and the 2300 days END at the lake of fire when all sin has ENDED and everlasting righteousness is COMPLETELY accomplished by all who will be saved are saved, then we need to rethink things. Now, what I am seeing is that the starting date of the 2300 days is either AT the setting up of the abomination of the Dome of the Rock or some other notable defeat of the Islamic army around that time. So what I did was I started at the END of the 1000 years and worked backward counting 2300 years. There may very well be one or more historical fulfillments of the 2300 days in HISTORY but NONE of the historical fulfillments meet ALL the details of the prophecy. For you see, one of those details is the little horn fighting against Jesus AT our Lord’s COMING and that has NOT happened at any time in history. And even the interpretation that the 2300 days end at the COMING of Jesus to reign for 1000 years, I do not see that ALL the details of the prophecy are met unless they are interpreted completely as a LITERAL cleansing of the literal earthly sanctuary. Plus, we still need to figure in the 1260 days, the 1290 days, and the 1335 days in Daniel chapter 12. But this particular study was not intended to be about calculating when the 2300 days will end. But rather, the purpose of this study is to show the ERRORS of interpretation made by the earlier Adventist Christians BEFORE the SDA Church even began. For you see, the SDA Church formed AFTER the great disappointment but they KEPT the SAME erroneous interpretations and felt that they needed to form another church doctrine so that the DATE of October 22, 1844 would NOT be an ERROR. And in creating another church doctrine they consequently PERVERTED the TRUE gospel of Jesus Christ to include Satan as a co-bearer of our sins. Please read the study Dd-69. Is SATAN or Jesus the SCAPEGOAT for sins? So the main point of this study is to show that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the 2300 DAYS itself to END before Jesus RETURNS. And that means that NOTHING happened on October 22, 1844 related to anything concerning the 2300 DAYS on Daniel 8:13,14. Plain and simple, the Adventist Christians back in 1844 were DECEIVED by Ellen G. White and others. And thus the SDA doctrine of the Investigative Judgment of Jesus and the Cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary is MAN-MADE false teaching. Now if you want to work on calculating the 2300 days here is what I have found that fits what I believe about Islam as BEING the mark of the beast. Please read the study J-28. COULD ISLAM be the MARK of the BEAST? Notice that there were FOUR major Islamic Muslim caliphates in history. And the EIGHTH final kingdom in the region of Israel will come out of the SEVENTH world empire in that region of the world. So to me, the first beast that received the wound with the sword was the Islamic Muslim Ottoman Empire. I think that we can all agree that the setting up of the Dome of the Rock is an ABOMINATION to the PLACE of God’s SANCTUARY, the Jewish temple. And until the Dome of the Rock is removed the PLACE of the sanctuary will not be CLEANSED. Do you see what I mean about the DETAILS? The Umayyad Caliphate (661–750 CE; UK: /ʊˈmaɪjæd, uːˈ-/,[2] US: /uːˈmaɪ(j)əd, -aɪæd/;[3] Arabic: ٱلْخِلَافَة ٱلْأُمَوِيَّة, romanized: al-Khilāfah al-ʾUmawīyah)[4] was the second of the FOUR major caliphates established after the death of Muhammad. The Dome of the Rock (Arabic: قبة الصخرة Qubbat aṣ-Ṣakhra, Hebrew: כיפת הסלע Kippat ha-Sela) is an Islamic shrine located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was initially completed in 691–92 CE at the order of Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik during the Second Fitna on the site of the Second Jewish Temple, destroyed during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE. Caliphate of Hisham and end of expansion[edit] The final son of Abd al-Malik to become caliph was Hisham (724–43), whose long and eventful reign was above all marked by the curtailment of military expansion. Hisham established his court at Resafa in northern Syria, which was closer to the Byzantine border than Damascus, and resumed hostilities against the Byzantines, which had lapsed following the failure of the last siege of Constantinople.The new campaigns resulted in a number of successful raids into Anatolia, but also in a major defeat (the Battle of Akroinon), and did not lead to any significant territorial expansion.From the caliphate's north-western African bases, a series of raids on coastal areas of the Visigothic Kingdom paved the way to the permanent occupation of most of Iberia by the Umayyads (starting in 711), and on into south-eastern Gaul (last stronghold at Narbonne in 759). Hisham's reign witnessed the end of expansion in the west, following the defeat of the Arab army by the Franks at the Battle of Tours in 732.Now, I took the year 31 AD as the resurrection of Jesus and added 2000 year to arrive at 2031 AD as a POSSIBLE year of our Lord’s return. Then I subtracted the year 691 AD, the year that the Dome of the Rock was completed and that came up to be 1340 years to the coming of Jesus. I then added 1000 years for the 1000 year reign of Jesus and that came to 2340 years which is 40 years too much. So I starting looking for when a war ended that a Muslim Islamic army was defeated and I found the battle at Tours that ended in the year 732 AD. So I did the same thing and came up with 2,299 years which is one year short. Then I remembered the little season at the end of the 1000 years which no one really knows how long that will be. And I also am thinking that the final Day of Judgment will take longer than a 24 hour day. So, if we add one year for the little season and the time it may take for the final Day of Judgment, then we end up with exactly 2300 years. And using a year for each day we have a calculation that fits the details of the 70 week prophecy, the MIDST of the week, and the beginning of the 2300 days WITHIN the midst of the 70th week. And that makes the END and also for the LAST END of the 2300 to end after the 1000 year reign of Jesus is finished in the world to come. For you see, there is also the LATTER end in the context of Daniel 8:13,14 that I believe will be fulfilled at the COMING of Jesus. So we have THREE ends, at least the way I am seeing it. You decide. My main point of this study is that the END of the 2300 days MUST include the literal visible return of Jesus somewhere WITHIN the 2300 days. And since Jesus did NOT return on October 22, in the year 1844, then the END of the 2300 days in Daniel can NOT possibly be that DATE. Therefore, the DATE of October 22, 1844 has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the 2300 day prophecy in Daniel 8:13,14. And thus, the central pillar of faith in the SDA Church called the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment of Jesus and the Cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary did NOT come from God, but rather, it came from Satan. So then, to all SDA Christians, remember what Ellen G. White herself said. “God is either teaching His church, reproving their wrongs and strengthening their faith, or He is not. THIS WORK IS OF GOD, OR IT IS NOT. God does nothing in partnership with Satan. MY WORK ... BEARS THE STAMP OF GOD OR THE STAMP OF THE ENEMY. There is no half-way work in the matter. THE TESTIMONIES ARE OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD OR OF THE DEVIL.” Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 230 “IF THE TESTIMONIES SPEAK NOT ACCORDING TO THIS WORD OF GOD, REJECT THEM.
